Had another listen and it reminds me of Mark Kings tone when he solos finger style without the slappy thingy. When he goes back into the song its such a sweet tone.

Not knocking his playing at all. Its just the bass tone gets weak and lot of fret rattles. When he hits the lower notes it seems fine. I'm using Beyer D headphones too so its not because of the laptop. I've noted that with others playing them too. Stanley Clarke tone i find the same. Again an excellent player but his tone weakens. I guess its just a personal taste thing. I would still love an Alembic. Any version to be honest as i love how they sound in a band. No other bass sounds quite like them. Dave

Thought i'd play some Mahogany Rush for us fans. Fantastic bass tone on this too.

Love Alembic tone when its played in a song but i find them very treble and rattly when solo'd like that. It sounded fantastic within the song with a nice full but clear mid punch and then the solo it went thin and treble sounding. Would still love one. Dave

That just has that Reggae feel. Bass is so smooth. Altho i'm not usually a Reggae fan i like the way these songs feel and the bass flows really nice That's how to do it properly

I bought Mahogany Rush What's Next album. Was totally stunned by how great it was. Frank Marino was a under-rated in my opinion. A bit of a baw-heid but was his idol Hendrix not the same. ?

Bit of an old Proggie classic from Magna Carta - Lord of the Ages From the Wondrous Stories Prog Collection 4 CD album

Would never have guessed that was Clapton singing to be honest but i'm not a Clapton fan. I appreciate his ability etc but doesn't do much for me. Wife has the 4 CD special edition collection but i just can't listen to a disc all the way thru. He kinda bores me. He's had some excellent songs i like but not albums for me. Its a good version altho i don't know the original so that's a daft thing to say. This is a wee bit too bluesy for me. (Mind i'm from a rock background.) Cream would be more appropriate for me. Dave

This was me doing a first gig with this band and using a brand new Precision Deluxe that only arrived that day so no set up time at all. (that was a brave move for me) Was using someone else's Hartke L5000 into two 15" cabs mainly because he lived near the venue and was doing a support for us. Unfortunately their drummer was right handed and ours was left handed so 2 drum kits on stage taking up lot of room on stage. No sound check for me cause i lived a fair bit away so turn up and play. The other bass player did a sound check with the band in the afternoon before i got there. I can usually adapt to get a decent sound from most rigs but it was thru PA anyways. You can hear i just couldn't really get the hang of that reggae beat and was after this gig i persuaded them to do a more Clapton version. Think this was 2017

That's a nice bass line but coming from a more rock based background i just prefer the Clapton version. Clapton is probably as far Reggae as i would normally go. Reggae isn't a style of music i would normally listen to or play for that matter. That's exactly the kind of Reggae bass line i find hard to get the feel right. Its not about the notes its pure feel and i don't have it Afraid its the easy way out for me

Eventually i managed to persuade the band to play the Eric Clapton live version that i found a bit easier to get a feel of.

I always find it difficult to get the correct feel for Reggae. I listen to the songs and here what is basically a simple bass line to play but its getting the feel just right that makes the songs. Played with a band doing I Shot the Sheriff and i really had to work a lot more on that song than any other in their set list of blues / rock based songs. All credit to people that can play it so easily. I do come from a background of rock / prog so that's my excuse Dave

Yep spot on. Its one of my fav rock bands from the late 70's era but never managed to see them. I've seen John Sloman with Uriah Heep and Paul Chapman with UFO. Did actually meet John Sloman and he was a real gem of a guy. Your turn again Trevor

Saw them during their I Can See Your House from Here tour. Saw them support Bowie on Glass Spider tour at Sunderland football ground mid 80's when Peter Frampton was playing guitar with backing band. Big Country were so energetic and powerful i was totally blown away by them live.

Nope saw them in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall mid 90's with the amazing Paul Carrack on vocals and Tim Renwick on guitar.
