  1. I have an Overwater J4 as shown below. It's not the Tanglewood version and was made by the guys at Overwater as a special for a few people. I'm guessing the dimensions are all same as Tanglewood versions. I'm not a big fan of the pick-ups but i like the feel of the bass. I quite fancied going passive with it. Is it possible to fit a Precision style pick up under the pick up covers to get that Precision sound. I don't want to change the bass itself so needs to be something that will fit the current hole positions. Not even sure that's possible. Curious to know if anyone has changed the pick ups / pre-amp on one of them to see what you used. Dave
  2. Never heard that one before. Nice choice. No idea what he's using on bass during piano solo Dave
  3. I'm with you on that. Great album. I actually prefer the Seconds Out version mainly because i heard it first. Seconds Out is my fav era Genesis Great choice tho. I actually bought Foxtrot and Nursery Cryme as a double album box set in vinyl must have been late 70's Dave
  4. He freely admits he's not a slap bassist but some of the slap he did in 80's / 90's was pretty impressive. He's probably like many players who just haven't had the need to play that style over last few years and you get a bit rusty. Dave
  5. When i bought my Thumb NT back in 89 it was a choice between the Thumb and the Streamer like that with the gold hardware but being a bit of a Jack Bruce fan i went with the Thumb. Still got it and the basses from that era are simply superb. My Thumb had an electronics fault and had to go back to Germany for repair. I had that same style of bass as a loner and it was very nice. Dave
  6. Not his best slap work. Wee bit rusty at the start but in his younger days he could slap with the best of them. Just a great all rounder in my book and added to a great personality explains why he was / is in high demand. Dave
  7. When i say i wasn't fussy they were all gorgeous after a few beers. Not so much in morning tho
  8. When i was younger i was never that fussy.
  9. At our last Xmas gig someone shouted out to play some AC/DC. We are a 70's Glam Rock covers band with full Glam gear incl wigs, big boots and sparkly jackets. All our gigs are clearly advertised as such and many actually turn up dressed in 70's Glam gear. There's always one. At our last gig before Covid-19 we were asked to play a 2nd encore. Not bad for a wee support slot. Dave
  10. Very nice indeed. I was born in 1960 but i started high school in 72. Mmmmmm GLWTS Dave
  11. Your birthday today. ? Many happy returns and have a great day. 🎂 Dave
  12. He's just a really likeable guy with a great personality and he's not a bad bassist.
  13. Think she was a fan of a band called Portishead ? I don't really know them that well but i was curious so had a quick listen to them and i could hear the similarities in styles. I def enjoyed it. Not bad for a walk in and play and home again after a couple of hrs work. Dave
  14. Back in early 80's i played a fretless P bass in a rock covers band doing Kansas, Magnum, Gary Moore, Saga, ELP and it was great. I ended up getting a WAL custom fretless after that but wasn't happy with the WAL and traded it for a white Rik bass. That lasted even less and bought a Fender J with maple neck. The WAL appeared to have a dead spot around the Eb on G string but on hindsight it may well have been something silly but WAL didn't want to know. And after spending £740 on it in early 80's i wasn't a happy chappie with them. RANT over i think if you put the effort in you can indeed play in most styles but it does take work to get there. I kinda lost the notion for fetless after the WAL incident and stuck with fretted until 2010 when i bought my Overwater 6er custom Fretless more for a challenge and to push me a bit plus i wanted something special for my 50th. Wife's idea to get the bass so can't complain. Some pics of my WAL, Shergold twin 4&8 (their first 8 string bass built using their 6 string bass) and my Fender P bass. (back in the days when i was a skinny 9.5st) Dave
  15. Afraid not but i'll donate 50p if that gets you started. Another 9999 fiends and you've got one bass plus postage of course.
  16. Think that's the rub for most that they aren't prepared to put the additional effort in. I go thru stages of having fetless basses cause i love the sound you get from them but they don't really suit the bands i play in so i never seem to have the time to be fully committed to them. Its usually in between bands i get into fretless mode. I'm now back to my one Overwater 6er custom fretless mainly because i wasn't playing the others i've had over the years. Dave
  17. @bassfan they're all yours mate Dave
  18. Stop stealing my gig.
  19. Having a listen to an EP i was asked to do basslines for 2yrs ago. It was never finished but sound engineer sent me the studio tracks he had. Apparently the singer / writer fell out with the studio and never finished them. Singer later asked if i was ok with her keeping the basslines which was fine by me but looks like she didn't complete them. This was one of those jobs where you turn up, have a listen to the basic songs and play a bassline from scratch kinda thing. Quick discussion about what they were looking for in the songs and i played thru what i thought would work and agreed to go for it. Please note that the final mix was never completed. I believe she wanted some extra harmonies, guitar and keys to be added. Quite enjoyed the experience as its not my usual style of music. Dave 1 - Donald Put Down That Gun.mp3
  20. I'm in. I have it on a word search now. I'll get a notification as soon as it appears or maybe even before its written. Dave
  21. No chance. I'm not that nice a person.
  22. I'm a nice guy just trying to help a fellow BC'er escape from his dilemma. No-one wants to see him suffer like this any more than he needs to. Sure you would do the same. Dave
  23. Watched it earlier this morning. Had me rolling about laughing with his spaniel comment. Dave
