  1. Yep there's the bit i couldn't get. All sorted now. 😂 Dave
  2. Has anyone found a bass tab for it yet. ? Dave
  3. I struggled to hear this when i did my youtube search. Its quite a forgiving bassline at the start but it fades into the background the more you hear it. Have to say i was rather taken aback by the lacklustre ending. Its a style i've been trying to learn for many years and been so disappointed by my own results. Dave
  4. Is this the John Cage version ? I struggled with the bass tab on that one. Dave
  5. Let us know how you get on with it. Dave
  6. What is this 4'33" you talk off. Never heard of it. Dave
  7. This is who we use The trees do block the audience view tho. Dave
  8. Dont you guys have a line of security in front of the stage. ? 😄 Dave
  9. You do realise that if i'm at any of your gigs i'm gonna stand at the front and continually talk to you. Dave
  10. I jammed it once when i was asked to come on stage for a song by another band. Managed to play it all except for the low octave in the solo. I didnt know the song well enough to pick up on that low octave. That was back in 80's. Dave
  11. I was never a big fan of slow songs in a set when doing covers but playing them allowed me to learn more feeling in a slow song. Playing a couple of notes per bar is easy but getting the right feel to a slow song can make a lot of difference in the bigger picture. Currently doing Waterloo by ABBA and its been quite a nice eye opener. That guy was good. No matter the song i like to learn a bit about the bass player to understand his style and thought process when playing. That's invaluable when doing tribute bands but its a bit geeky. 😄 I've played in bands that the music was nothing that i would ever listen to in every day life. Tried the function band once and it just wasn't for me. I prefer cover bands that want to play a style of music i enjoy. That can be anything from classic rock to punk to Prog. I've not had a lot of success with pub covers bands to be honest. I find too many debates and fall outs thru song choices altho i generally go along with majority when deciding. I will voice my opinion if a song just doesn't fit with what the band are trying to achieve. Dave
  12. I've ran out of likey emoj's today cause this thread has been one of the most interesting i've seen in a while. Dave
  13. I think that was @TimR's point that he has already listened to the songs on the radio or elsewhere that he knows them in his head. Once you know the songs like that its far easier to learn them. I found that when i was learning the 70's Glam songs because they were the songs i played all the time as a teenager that when it came round to learning them i was getting thru them far easier than i thought. Dave
  14. Exactly how i approach any new song i have to learn. I listen until i get a feel for it then i just play along with it again getting the feel and then i just write it out and i file it in the big black folder fro future referance. Writing it out helps me memorise the structure of the song. Dave
  15. I'm guessing you've studied music in some way and therefore chords etc are probably intuitive to you. I wish i had continued my lessons when i started but the guy i was using said there was nothing more he could teach me and i should just go and listen to songs and learn them. On hindsight i think he was a very limited teacher and 18mths of lessons wasn't enough for me to learn chord structures. I have picked up more of that as time went on but some of it is down to natural ability and playing lots of styles of music. If you asked me to play a chord structure i probably wouldn't know the correct notes these days. That's where learning music is a big advantage that i've missed out on. Playing could have been a lot simpler if i learned it in more detail. Dave
  16. Brilliant news but i'm curious why it cant go a bit lower. Is it down to uneven fret height being an issue. Thanks for this post its been quite interesting as we've all had basses that needed tweaking to some degree. Dave
  17. Unfortunately for me i never listen to the radio at all. Even in the car i listen to songs on a USB stick. Bass playing is and always has been just a hobby for me so i dont class myself in same league as others like @TimR that obviously have far more experience than i do. I've been playing for over 40 yrs and i rate myself as reasonably competent and can play most things with a little practice except Slap bass cause i'm not a huge fan of it. Some songs i can pick up very quickly and other more complex ones like @Reggaebass Hit Me take a good bit longer. I'm ok with that. If others can pick up songs really quickly i'm jealous of that but they have probably put more effort and work into their playing over the years than i have and i dont want to crticise someone for that. Dave
  18. Its probably like most jobs, if you do the same job often enough you get better at it and you pick up on the finer details the more you do it. Would have to say that for me you're background puts you above the average covers player. That's an impressive list of experience @TimR Dave
  19. Nope sorry but it was definitely G#
  20. Oh i never played it at full speed 😁 Dave
  21. You do realise there's a theme coming over in your posts Dave
  22. Gonna go back over it as i missed the 2nd break Dave
  23. And i thought it was just me that thought that 😂 Dave
  24. Come on @Reggaebass...........even i did that on the first take. It starts on a note somewhere down at the low end of the neck and from there just use yir scales and jam it. I've never had any complaints of my version.........at home. I actually managed that one last year during lockdown but i've forgotten it again. Was a hard one to nail. I was at it for weeks if i remember right. Once i got it i kept playing the start riff at rehearsals until everyone told me to "give it a rest Dave". No pleasing some people Dave
  25. Absolutely brilliant ........... love it 😂 Wish i had thought of that line.....i'm so jealous of your proficiency. Dave
