Sounding really good there guys. The bass sounds really nice. What rig were you using for that one. Nice well rounded tone and nice and clear. Loving the bass on that. Few wee fills added that fitted really well. That could have been Trev himself on bass. Dave

Think that's the sensible decision if you like the band and are all good musicians that generally have no other concerns then its a minor annoyance more than anything else. Think i'd be the same. Some songs with some audiences just dont work and maybe it was just a combination of events. What was the song out of curiosity ? Dave

Its good cause i like Nickelback but prefer the original version. Bassline is better to play on the Elton John version. Dave

We used to have a keys player as a 5 piece band but they never quite fitted in for various reasons. Our guitarist now plays keys in some songs and singer Mikey plays guitar. We've always kept Sat Night even without keys it still sounds great. We dropped Croc Rock when we had no keys players but guitarist plays keys at certain critical points in it and then swaps over to guitar again. Dave

Never trust your guitarist to make a decision, they simply aren't equipped for thinking. Dave

At rehearsals it occasionally runs away in bits and it takes a bit of taming to keep the pace right all the way thru. Elton John songs are usually pretty great to play. Basslines are not overly complicated but interesting wee runs to keep you busy. Dave

If there's a full PA there i'll use it as i find it fills the room better even if its just a touch of bass thru the PA. I dont use PA with the punk band but its mainly smaller gigs with them generally pub sized venues at the moment. The venue in the pic holds around 200 i think and they have a pretty large PA and were renowned for their Sound guy. Every band i know that played there complimented the sound guy. Shame he retired. Have to say the Marlowe sounds absolutely amazing. A little more defined than the VM4 but the Marlowe has a slim neck more like my Geddy Jazz. The VM4 for me has a more general approach to the neck that would suit more people. Both amazing basses tho. The other thing is the Mesa rig has a nice warm depth of tone. I've tried the VM4 thru other rigs and its not quite there for me so for me its a combination of bass and rig that i get the tone i really like. Any bass i've played thru my Mesa rig has sounded really nice but its a personal taste. Dave

Apparently the bass wasn't going thru the PA. The SE in the venue said the bass stage volume was too loud to go thru the PA. 2nd set i turned down and couldn't hear myself over the drums on stage. I play at the same amp volume for every gig as my amp is set up to drummers volume. I've played this gig before and amp settings were exact same. Because i turned amp down a touch i ended up playing harder to be heard and subsequent sore fingers and blisters by end of the night. Not what i'm used to in this venue but original SE retired. We had a 5min sound check before doors opened due to PA issues. The sound was poor on stage but the FOH sound seemed to improve as time went on. Dont think the very young girl SE had ever mixed a Glam band before where bass and drums are quite solid in the mix. Sounds ok tho. Dave

I remember seeing these guys do this cracking version of Black Dog back in 80's.

Heard Black Dog by Led Zep today in the gym and was thinking that would be a great song to learn. Dave

We do that in our 70's Glam Covers band for Xmas gigs and love playing his basslines. That one is particularly nice to play. Dave

I had one in 80's but didn't keep it long at all. I just remember it not fitting in with the style of music i was playing and it seemed a bit limited in tone. I think the tonal issue was just a lack of understanding how to get the best out of it. I remember thinking the tones were all a bit samey. I dont recall any playability issues tho. I didnt have any issues using fingerstyle and where to rest my thumb but i usually find a comfortable spot and stick with it. It was a white one and quite a rare version. Sold it for half the price i paid new. I had more trouble getting used to a P bass with wider neck and the P pick up wasn't quite where i prefer to play the strings. I like a certain tension on the strings and a P moves my positioning back a little. Now a lot more used to a P positioning and it doesn't bother me now. I still fancy another one but i'd definitely try before buying. Dave

2nd hand ones are selling for not much less than original prices and in some cases more because of the delays in supply chain so you might not lose as much as you think. Try posting on FB or Gumtree rather than rely on ebay biddings. Such a shame. I almost went for one that colour too but decided on a 2nd hand Sandberg MarloweDK instead. Think i might have had the same reaction to it TBH. Hope you get your return on it. Dave
