1. Thanks mate. Forgot to say in the original thread that although not the smallest of cabs (!), it is quite easy to move around. Same design as an SVT - tilt back onto castors using rear handle, and trundle away! So, any interest out there-offers even?
2. Really reluctant to ebay this, so final reduction to £400. There's just been a set of same Kinman pickups (Blues Set) gone on ebay for £175 too! Found some tags/sticker and unused polishing cloth in my loft as well. Great deal!
3. Afraid not! Can't remember what was on it though. Thanks for nice comments-this is a great cab for someone who wants a proper grown up rig. And a bargain too!
4. Continuing my downsizing, here is my fab SWR cabinet. NOW SOLD - Thanks to everyone for interest shown. It is rated by SWR at 450 watts/4 ohms, yet I always thought it was 480 watts (8x60 watt drivers). Whatever, it sounds bloody marvellous - think Ampeg SVT 8x10,but a bit more manageable/compact. Has useful variable tweeter control too. Made in USA. Have been using it with GK 700RB,which is a great combination. Lots of bottom end,yet clean and articulate too. (Check out the rave reviews on Harmony Central.) Yes I know its a bit large & heavy(approx 100 lbs uncased),but the sound this thing gives out makes it worthwhile -easily managed by 2 people into the back seat of a medium sized motor! Also comes with custom built flight case, which cost a fortune. Has seen some use,but still v.tidy and serviceable. Only selling due to arm injury, which has forced me onto keyboards for immediate future. So got to be worth £275 - less than a crap Chinese made 8x10, and sounds so much better! Flightcased too. Am in East Yorkshire, but possible help with delivery/meet up etc. Cheers for looking.
5.
They will all be getting on a bit now. Musicman also did a version back in the late 70's.
The Musicman amp heads were available in 65,75,130 and 150 watt versions. As far as I know they were all transistor pre-amp/valve power amp design, so not quite the same as the Fender Bassman. Great amps though, as were their guitar combos. I had a 135 Bassman, and also found it to be a great sounding amp but not quite loud enough before clipping. Used it with a matching 2x15 cab too-weighed a ton!
6.
Less is more, Brother. Eric's a bit, er, "English" some times .. Try these guys: Howlin' Wolf John Lee Hooker (esp The Healer) Gary Moore (Esp Still Got the Blues) The Kings: BB King Freddie King Albert King (Flying V and pipe on stage, what a dude!) Stevie Ray Vaughn Some of this stuff was played on upright bass which means lots of open strings, a lot lese notes, walking, riffs and space ...
+1 to the above, BUT! Whilst maybe agreeing with Eric's 'Englishness', what is it with Gary Moore? Am guessing that for the people who missed out on the Kings and the other great bluesmen, then Gary Moore was the most easily available 'blues' player for many guitarists. Trouble for me is he can't stop himself from widdling all over the place, with masses of distortion too. And did anybody see the interview with him in last months Guitarist mag, where he pretty much disses Joe Bonamassa? Very unprofessional in my view. Give me Eric anytime.
7. Hope it goes well for you. I broke my upper left arm badly in October, and am not back to playing bass yet. Currently gigging with my band playing synth basslines, so I know how it is to be incapacitated. Have just started back driving again though, which is bloody marvellous!
8. Favourite music gear from NAMM show 2009? BlameShifter : shifts pitch of mistakes down one octave so that the audience thinks it was the bass player.
9. Let me know if your deal falls through with the Ashdown style cab - am v.interested and could maybe collect from E.Anglia. Cheers.
10.
Hi guys, Sort of looking for a stereo setup for lowish volume practice and gigging (will use IEMs for anything large so the amp needn't be very loud). I used to really like Hartke gear, so was thinking two 210xl cabinets would suffice. What head should I get though? Coming from my Vbass I will have two 1/4" outputs, left and right. I looked at the LH series amplifiers but don't think they would work, the Kilo looks like it would but possibly overkill... Is/was there a stereo version of the 3500? Used to love that thing. Maybe I should buy two?? I never really was that into amplifiers so need some pointers. Think I am settled on the 210XL cabs (they are the ideal weight/vol for me) so need some head pointers... Two 1/4" jacks, two speakers... fill the gap! Budget? Not sure really, maybe up to £400 for a head, less if possible. I also considered two combos but think that would be an expensive option... Cheers ped
The Hartke HA7000 is really two HA3500's in one amp i.e. 350 watts output each poweramp into 4 ohms. Don't know if this would suit your need for 'stereo' setup though, and a bit on the heavy side too.
11.
I wanted one of these so bad when I was 15, I thought they were the best amp in the world.
Which of course they are!
12. Great little combo. Has a 15 inch speaker, 6 band graphic eq,compressor.Controls for gain&comp/bass/treble/master vol. Jack sockets for DI / effects send&return on rear panel, along with speaker jack outputs (4 ohm min load) Made in the UK, probably early 1990's? Fairly light, yet loud enough for small gigs/rehearsals etc. In very good nick for its age. Am looking for £60 ( or possible swap for a bass cab -1x15,4 or maybe 2x10's etc.-that will handle 200 watts+ please.) Tidy giggable UK built combo for the price of a crappy practice amp! I am located in East Yorkshire near Hull, but could maybe meet/deliver somewhere. Am hoping to be at the Harrogate Bass Bash on Feb 15th, so thats a possible too. Thanks for looking. NOW SOLD - THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST.
13. NOW SOLD! I have for sale an American Fender Stratocaster, in bright yellow (graffiti yellow?- seems to be a rare colour - Jeff Beck has used a similar Strat I believe?). It is the maple neck version. Made in Corona in California in 2001 (serial number Z1 etc). Has the 5 position selector switch, along with usual 3 knob controls. It has been fitted with a set of Kinman pickups - AVN 62's at the neck and middle positions / SCN at the bridge. This configuration was recommended by Kinman for Stevie Ray Vaughan type sounds - fatter than the originals, bit hotter output and hum free too! (For more info on these, look at their website, www.kinman.com) The guitar is in overall very good condition. There are a few marks here and there, but nothing serious or breaking through the finish. Some of the lower frets are showing slight wear, but could be sorted out if you want with a fret dress for not much dosh. It plays fine as it is and sounds excellent,as you would expect with the £220 worth of pickups! Its a good working Strat, a players guitar rather than a showpiece. Comes with the original Fender shaped hard case which although not as tidy as the guitar is still okay (but then thats what its there for!) Nothing much else to tell you really. For more pictures drop me a PM and will try to get you some sent. Was asking £450, now £425 before it goes to ebay- think this is a cracking deal for a genuine USA Strat with a full set of Kinmans. If no interest from here, will be going to ebay fairly soon, as need the dosh due to an arm injury. Would rather it went to a Basschat person, hence the good price. I am based in East Yorkshire near Hull, and would rather not post/courier the guitar if at all possible. Could maybe arrange meet/deliver etc - hope to be at the Harrogate Bass Bash on Feb 15th too, so could bring it with me. Thanks for looking, Pete.
14. Playing bass with my fave outfit Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes - best bar room band EVER!!! OR playing bass with the Stones / Springsteen / Stevie Wonder etc etc (and +1 for the Average White Band!)
15.
All played by Carol Kaye.
There was some dispute about 'Good Vibrations' I believe. Lyle Ritz (part of the 'Wrecking Crew' in LA, and probably better known for his ukelele playing!)) has claimed it was him on the session, although it usually seems credited to Carol Kaye.
16. Think the Guild 301 series basses were mid 70's. They did a few versions, some with DiMarzio pickup options, and were often rather heavy beasts. Quality USA build though, and bordering on quirky/collectable now perhaps. I seem to remember they did a half fretted/half fretless version too! IIRC the lower part of the neck was fretted, with the upper section fretless for those moose-like moments! Needless to say they did n't catch on, and subsequently a rare beast. Shame yours is defretted, which unfortunately will reduce it's value, but you should still geta a fair price for it. Good luck .
17. The Ampeg 8x10 design works so well because each pair of 10 inch speakers is in its own sealed space i.e. 4 lots of 2x10's. If you remove the grille you will see these 'compartments'. I've always felt that this had a lot to do with why they sound so good, especially as the speakers themselves are nothing special-for some reason it just works when you get 8 of them in that cabinet! So maybe not quite the same as stacking 2 cabinets with 4x10's in?
18. Peavey 1x15 Black widow cabs are available in 4 or 8 ohms, and handle 350 watts rms. Their standard 2x10 cabs are 4 ohm but only 175 watts rms, although they do a 4 ohm 4x10(350w). Great cabs for the money, and a good s/h buy.
