  1. Interesting point. I have been down as a musician on my car insurance for over 40 years ( semi pro and pro ) ,and during that time have had companies change their stance on whether to insure musicians or not, sometimes to decide at a later date they do want my custom after all. I was with the AA for a few years who then out of the blue hiked up my payment to a stupidly high amount, something like six times higher than usual. Think it was their way of saying they didn’t want to insure a musician , without actually refusing to cover me. These days there are quite a few different choices when entering ‘musician’ in the occupation box. I’m down as one who plays ‘popular music’ , other options being classical, teacher and some more I can’t remember.
  2. It's got my interest now then.
  3. Interesting, thanks for the comments. Can you update when you've tried it at gig kind of levels please?
  4. My experience of Elixirs is that they feel a bit dead from the off, but then don’t get any worse for ages, which I guess is inevitable with the coating and the general design brief for longer lasting strings. Was just wondering if the EXP’s feel brighter at all and manage to retain this. Going to give them a bash I think. Will report back, may be some time though ?
  5. Thanks Adam. I've been using EXL 170's for years, but will give the EXP's a go. Didn't like the feel of Elixirs so hope these manage to feel less 'coated'. Cheers.
  6. Thanks for the heads up. Just to clarify, the programme is on Vintage TV (channel 82 on Freeview) at 5pm on Sunday 10th December I'll be watching.
  7. Are P-basses all that Kevin will allow?
  8. where he could well be my Blue Kevin. ( Bit creepy, sorry )
  9. I understand he doesn't want a hearse for the funeral, so Kevin's in the backseat of my Cadillac....
  10. Anyone seen / played one of these yet? Certainly look interesting. http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Electrics/Bass/Masterbilt-De-Luxe-Classic-4-String.aspx
  11. On the contrary, Kevin helps us all....
  12. Aah, so then Kevin knows I’m miserable now?
  13. I had a LM2 for a while and now use an MB 800. Agree with Lozz -nowt wrong with the LM, but just prefer the character of the GK.
  14. In my experience, January sales with the larger music shops are pretty much like any others - deals on stock that hasn’t shifted, and stuff bought in to sell cheaply to promote this. You may get lucky and find what you want/need, but chances are you will do just as well negotiating over exactly what you’re after at any other time, especially if your needs are very specific regarding the spec of a particular bass.
  15. I drive the tour bus. The band call me ‘Petenav’ although I do occasionally take a wrong turn.
  16. Roll ups using Drum?

  18. Good call, me too. Couldn't have kept up with the drinking antics though.....
  19. Back OT, I would have loved to have Bill Wyman's job in the Stones, or to play with any period of The E Street Band. There are others, but I know I would never be able to hack it ( Chic, Motown ), but might (just) be in with a chance for the two above.
  20. As you've probably gathered, me too....
  21. Found images of your amp on Google, and as you say there is an external speaker jack on the front. This will do one of two things - either enable another cab to be added as well as the internal speaker in the combo (in which case will need to be at least 8 ohms?), OR enable another cab to be added whilst cutting out the internal speaker completely. Without knowing the spec of the amp and what ohmage it will work into it is dodgy trying another cab, especially if the former option is the case as it could do some damage. Only thing that may be okay is turn the treble up a bit so you can hear some hiss, then quickly insert and remove a jack plug into the socket - if the sound disappears as you do this you’ll know it disables the internal speaker. UK distributor for Stagg appears to be EMD Music in Surrey, tel. 01293 862612. Maybe worth a call to them for spec details. Cheers.
  22. I played for Kenny Lynch a couple of years ago. Nice singer and a decent bloke, 80 next year.
  23. Post rock and roll I'd say Prince or George Martin ( and my mate Andy Peacock who is a musical genius! )
  24. Just heard that Aretha Franklin is the latest artist to have her classic recordings re-done with new string parts. Think she is the first artist to have this done who is still around, probably due to recent successful sales of albums by Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison. Only heard a couple of tracks of the Aretha stuff so far, but despite it being the RPO playing on it, I just can't understand why it seems okay to meddle with something that was pretty damn perfect all those years ago. The Elvis stuff was to me pretty dreadful too ( anybody hear 'Burning Love'? ), and although Orbison's material lends itself to the more orchestral approach, the originals were just sublime as they were. Some things just need leaving alone......rant over.
