  1. Reminds me of a Christmas party gig we did years ago. Set the kit up, and left a CD player on with a 'Now that's what I call Christmas' type compilation on, which started with Slade's 'Merry Xmas everybody'. We left to get something to eat, and on our return I commented to our keyboard player what a coincidence it was that the CD was playing the Slade song again. Then it dawned on us it had accidentally been left on 'track repeat' , and the audience had been listening to Noddy Holder's classic over and over for nearly two hours. Can't believe nobody had manged to turn it off....🎅
  2. For a long time everyone always seemed to use 'The Nightfly' album by Donald Fagen. Although this only partly explains why I find it so painful...
  3. Wow, Steve and Billy! Can’t believe I missed that, two of my favourite players.
  4. I would guess that this has been a perennial problem for most people on here! One of my old bands suffered immensely from this - the drummer played so loudly that everything else struggled to keep up. I ended up having to wear earplugs as it was beginning to affect my hearing. Despite having a few words with him on many occasions, it remained problematic. The snare and cymbals are what did it for me. (In my current band the drummer has an electric kit, so no problems there.) I think what annoys me is that any one band member playing too loud does kind of dictate the stage levels of everyone, really selfish and inconsiderate.
  5. Wow, amazing to think that SW was around 14 then as well.
  6. You cantankerous Douglas? Never....😉
  7. Think I saw Sept 17th mentioned somewhere as the start date.
  8. Hey, what about the Dano Longhorn and funky Fender amps though? 😆
  9. Good to see SW still doing it. Loved most of his stuff, especially the solo albums and the Live at Madison Square Gardens album with that mediocre player Eric Clapton. 😉 Seen SW a few times live, and always been impressed - along with his great vocals & Hammond playing he’s also a superb guitarist.
  10. Mmmmm, English mustard. I like most types actually, depends on what you’re having it with. Even those mild American ones such as French’s have their place in a burger or hot dog etc. Best mustard I’ve ever had was bought in Nice airport on the way home from a holiday, using up my change in euros. Think it was a type of Dijon, came in a small stoneware jar with a cork stopper. Great on a ham sarnie!
  11. This too ^^^^ When my band started using IEM's the difference in onstage interaction was very noticeable. For a while we had a mic ('ambient' ? ) set up front of stage so they could hear the audience, but soon gave it up. It's very strange for me now being the only band member who can actually hear the audience / room!
  12. I still have my GK 800RB amp, which has a large heat sink and no fan. On long loud gigs in the summer it does get a bit warm, but it's never tripped out - in fact it's been 100% reliable all the time I've had it. Probably my favourite amp head, but I also love my GK1001RB which is fan cooled and fairly quiet too - I'm not sure the fan is even running all the time when not running at louder settings.
  13. This is a good point. One of the main reasons I use an amp and cab is to maintain consistency wherever I'm playing. Most of my gigs are in theatres, where the room and stage size can vary tremendously. Using my GK/410 rig means that the sound I hear is pretty much the same on all of them, so much so that I rarely feel the need to tweak the tone settings, just the overall volume. It sounds very much the same at lower or higher levels too. We do use monitors, but I don't have any bass in them, preferring to have my bass just in my rig behind me. When I've done gigs that have meant either relying heavily or solely on monitors for hearing my bass, I've often found the necessary eq for everything in the monitor mix is not what I want to hear for my bass if you get what I mean. I just like having my core onstage sound the same every time, with me in control of it!
  14. So many seasoned comments. This thread has been peppered with them.
  15. I look forward to more comments with relish...
  16. Eric’s appearance in ‘The Last Waltz’ wasn’t startling I have to agree, although it’s not helped by his guitar strap coming loose ( just after 1 min in the video). You can see it doubled over from the beginning, so it was inevitable! He was also fighting his demons around this time - possibly off the heroin but replacing it with alcohol I think. Robbie did cover for him very well, but think EC managed to pull it back a bit before the end. Mind you, he counted it in fast so that didn’t help either...😄
  17. Right, that’s the end of the line for me.
  18. You just need to express yourself clearly....
  19. This thread has gone so far OT I may have to tender my resignation....
  20. Great film! As far as I can remember very accurate with the instruments and amps too. Tom Hanks is his usual brilliant self too, and a funny running gag about the band's name too - 'The Oneders'. Good performances from them all.
  21. Sold Simon a GK combo. Great guy to deal with, prompt payment and good communications. Another great BC person!
  22. Agree with you about EC ‘s voice, sadly underrated ( due to his guitar playing maybe?). And the other comment mentioned is not only out of order, but technically incorrect - poor Conor Clapton was actually 4 and a half years old when he fell to his death in a tragic accident from a New York high rise apartment.
  23. Do you not think it would be ‘was a racist’? I also have no time for racist musicians, but the racist incident was over 40 years ago when EC was on a drug and booze fuelled downward spiral that nearly killed him. He has since spoken of how ashamed he is and apologised for his comments. This doesn’t condone his behaviour but does show how he realises how wrong it was. He speaks of this in the recent ‘Life in 12 Bars’ documentary.
  24. I do exactly the same with my GK 1001RB. Use an SKB 3U to enable the fan to work at it’s best.
