  1. Thanks - feel lucky to have that one + these two.
  2. I’ve bought my third Westone Thunder in less than a year. This time a Thunder 3 fretless. Bloomin’ lovely it is too & matches my fretted Thunder 3 nicely. Well pleased.
  3. Picked up this Thunder 1A a couple of months ago from @geoff90guitar . Could see it was fundamentally a solid instrument that just needed a bit of fettling. Had a neck shim in which wasn’t actually needed so that came out, & there was a stuck solid pick up screw that my local guitar shop (Kempsters) sorted for me. Other than that, just a load of elbow grease on all parts. It’s 39 years old with some just right minimal mojo - very pleased with the end result! 🙂
  4. Also, it was a limited edition so getting one now might be difficult. I believe you can patch a Bass Station 2 with the AFX software upgrade though.
  5. Thanks. The AFX is a very cool piece of kit. I’m discovering new things about it daily! It’s probably a bit of overkill for what I need, but kinda saw it and had to have it! 😆
  6. I love synths & the range of sexy noises they can produce. Below is the set up I’ve recently put together (which obviously includes a bass synth!!) Novation AFX Station / Roland JD-XI / McMillen 12 Step midi controller The 12 step is plugged into the Roland and I can trigger pads/strings or whatever with my feet whilst still playing my bass. I could midi through into the Novation too, but that’s not needed at the mo. The 12 Step is part of my bass pedal board now.

  8. My Thunder 1A fretless has long gone (what was I thinking 🤦🏼‍♂️), but remiss of me not to add my latest Matsumoku to this thread. A tasty Thunder III.

Thank you - very pleased with how it turned out. The shop is in my hometown - Swindon.

So, I was a teen newbie bass player in the 80’s. Like many a young bassist of the era, I played a Westone at some point - a Thunder 1A in my case. Always had fond memories, so when this Thunder 3 came up for sale locally, I just had to have it. It was in a sorry state (it is 35 years old) - grimy fretboard, broken off screw on the battery cover & worst of all, & no sound from the front pick up, but I could see potential. I was told it had been in a case for most of its life & judging by the minimal fret wear, I can believe that. With a bit of elbow grease from me, the skills of my local guitar shop (Kempsters), & Armstrong pickups, it is now fully functioning and a most welcome addition to my little collection. Sounds epic through modern amplification and the neck is a joy - low action & perfectly set frets make it a breeze to play. Yes, first fret feels a reach & it is weighty at 10.3lbs, but overall it’s superb. Very happy.
  11. Sold via FB group - please close.
  12. Fantastic bass that I’ve thought long and hard about selling, but I need to raise funds for some other gear for a new band project that I don’t need this bass for. Not far off new condition - a light scratch on heel of the neck & a couple really small lower body dings is about it. Huge spec, loads of tonal flexibility & plays like a dream. Comes with the usual Ibby rectangular foam semi hard case Spec:- neck type BTB57pc Panga Panga/Purpleheart/Maple neck w/Graphite reinforcement rodsNeck-through top/back/body Walnut topWalnut backAsh wing body fretboard Bound Panga Panga fretboardAbalone off-set dot inlay fret Medium Stainless Steel fretsPremium fret edge treatment number of frets 24 (+ zero fret) bridge MR5S bridge string space 19mm neck pickup Aguilar® DCB neck pickupPassive bridge pickup Aguilar® DCB bridge pickupPassive equaliser Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ w/ EQ bypass switch (passive tone control on treble pot) & 3-way Mid frequency switch Gotoh tuners too & locking Jack socket. No postage on this - pick up or collection from Swindon, or meet up say an hour away from here.
  13. I’m afraid I don’t knooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow 🤷🏼‍♂️
  14. Feck me, that’s a stunner. Sadly I’m lacking the greenbacks ☹️
  15. Pic below - not a great one, but the bass is at my local guitar shop having a pickup/electrical glitch fixed so I can’t take a better one. Appreciate, there are alternative fret cleaning methods. And yes, said fretboard was lemon oiled with Dunlop 65. Made a huge difference too.
  16. I’ve used these many times over the years on different instruments always to good effect. I’m in the process of restoring a Westone Thunder 3 to it’s former glory & the fret board when I got it was particularly horrible. See pic - bottom two frets as they were, top three cleaned with the Planet Waves sheets. Ok, a lot of elbow (I mean finger) grease went into the job, but great result I reckon. Whole board now done. Not bad for around £7 - 8 & a bit of effort.
  17. Mine started out like that, but are now as smooth as. Tuning has always been stable though. I’ve had it for nearly three years now.
  18. As I was reading through this thread, this was the video that leapt into my mind as the one I was going to post 😆 My favourite band & a great song, but that video is oh so bad sadly 😬
  19. I’ll add a couple more;- Sharon den Adel - Within Temptation Charlotte Wessels - Delain

    Got wood?

It was that blue Ibby of yours that finally pushed me over the edge to buy my four string version! As mentioned elsewhere, yours has one of the nicest tops seen on one of those - can’t believe you’re selling it! That green one (a Shuker?) - that’s definitely a ‘forever’ bass ain’t it - bloody gorgeous!!

    Got wood?

Great thread. Nothing against them, but can’t see myself ever acquiring a painted bass again - just not aesthetically pleasing enough for me these days. Here’s mine - all current crop (BTB now added).
  22. Ooooh feck. That is very nice....
  23. That is one amazing gloss finish - one of the best, if not the best, black finish I’ve seen on a bass or guitar. I’m not in the market at the moment, but can’t see this being around long, even in the current market. GLWTS.
