1. Oh bollox I just bought a new ordinary sized one for 43 quid today. Bummer
2. I have seen something else I must have and it's so similar to this Tele, I have to sell the Tele to even justify buying it. If it's so similar why not just keep the Tele and not bother buying the other thing? Dunno - completely irrational, but isn't that GAS? So - CIJ Fender Telecaster Custom 72 RI - I bought this brand new from a Northern Ireland dealer in January 2007. It's one of the only brand new guitars I've ever bought and at the time, it was the only "good" guitar I had. I gigged it in my covers band until I got my first Les Paul and these days I only play it in the Country-Noir band I am in. It's in very good condition - there are a few light pick scratches on it and a few scratches on the back - I don't know if that Fender/Meguiars stuff would buff it all out, I've never tried it. There's a bit of fretwear that came as a bit of a surprise as it started so soon, but there's still life in the frets and I can't see it needing a refret anytime soon. Pretty soon after I got it, I had it set up for 10s (from factory 9s) by Howard Smith in Leicester, who I reckon is the best tech I've ever been to. Christmas Day 2007, I put a new bridge pickup in it (present from my dad!) as the factory fit bridge pickup couldn't quite keep up volume wise with the humbucker - the new one (a Giovanni from axesrus) is much much better suited to the bridge humbucker. The difference between the CIJ and the MIM ones is the CIJ body is ash opposed to the MIM's alder construction and the wide range pickup is ceramic on the CIJ and AlNiCo on the MIM. The CIJ's tuners are Gotoh rather than the Schaller reissues (I don't even know if they're proper Schallers or just licensed). A mate of mine told me he'd replaced the pots on a Mexican made one because the vol/tone pots for the humbucker were only 250k and felt that 500ks opened up the sound a lot better. I got some Alpha 500k pots, took the pickguard off (why I didn't think to check this when I replaced the pickup I don't know) and discovered it already had 500k pots factory fitted - win I reckon! It came with a crap Gibson gig bag which I either sold or gave away and I put it straight into a Hiscox hardcase. This is included in the sale, would cost you in excess of £50 and is in great condition except for a small hole inside, where the cut string ends/machine heads have caught the lining. The key is still taped inside the flap and has never been used. Price - McGuitars are listing these at £749 + delivery (a tenner I think although it may have gone up!) and Guitar Emporium £779. The Japanese list price is over 90,000 Yen which, by the time you add delivery, VAT and import duty, I think is about £950 - you must be able to import them for less than that or McGuitars and GE would never be able to sell them for what they do. I would like £600 (to INCLUDE the Hiscox case), which would get me about 4/5 of the way to buying the thing I want, but would trade for a G&L Asat Bluesboy or Plus as long as it's ALL black (I mean black body, matching headstock and ebony fingerboard) and nothing else (unless it's crazily weighted in my favour!). I am in Leicester and would prefer it to be picked up but am not averse to sticking it in a box and sending it to you. Withdrawn from sale This is a pic from just after I got it, but am happy to provide more recent pics.
3. Goldtop ends on ebay tonight. Golchen, I think the Desertburst one will be staying with me - it's remarkably similar to the GT but is battered and bruised, has a pair of SD Pearly Gates pickups and is obviously not gold! It has been my go to guitar for the last 2 and a bit years when everything else has either sat in the cupboard or been sold to pay the bills (including my 335 and 4 Les Pauls ). I can't see myself parting with it any time soon. I am however considering selling my Tele Custom to buy a G&L Asat I've spotted.....mmmmmmm
4. If I list anything for sale, I put my location in the thread. I also think there's a case for putting your actual location in the profile in the first place. I think if the location is in the sub-header it may put people who are a long way away off buying the said amp/cab. I don't think enough people are prepared to consider shipping amps and cabs - OK, so with insurance it might cost anywhere between £20 - £50 with somebody like p4d or interparcel, but there's no reason why it can't be done. Edited to correct a post that didn't make any sense due to missing words and bad grammar.
5. Guys who've built these - I notice some of you added a couple of the wedges in between the platfoam (and the pre-built Gramma Pad also has this). Is there any advantage to doing this or do they work equally as well without the wedge?
6. Hello folks. Can any owners of a TE 715 please measure from the outside edge of one of the rubber feet to the outside edge of the opposite rubber foot? I am looking for a width measurement across the front of the amp. I know from the TE site that the 715x is 24.2" across, but I would like to know how far apart the feet are spaced to know whether it will fit on a 23" Gramma Pad. Cheers!
7.
Sadly it's gone, I've bought this and lost my Tele.
I think Tom's referring to the LP.
8. Great transaction with Ric for some mics and strings he bought from me. All good!
9. Good transaction with Dave who sent me some cash and I sent him some strings. All good!
10. Definite;y iTunes - you can set the bitrate you want it to convert to from 16 up to 320 kpbs
11. Only one shielded end can work as a ground lift (I think) - I suppose if you use it in hi-fi equipment, it can remove hum if if you have a ground loop. I don't know how effective it would be in connecting up a guitar to an amp.
12.
Think the rules in Ebay have changed so that the only way the paypal payment clears now is when positive feedback is left.
WHAT???
Since Paypal started holding the cash for 21 days or until feedback is left i've heard of a few people getting similar emails.
WHAT???
Paypals draconian new rules mean that sellers (again) are automatically in the wrong until they have a certain number of transactions under their belts, and yes, they do hold funds from the seller until positive feedback is left, or several weeks have passed without any claims being made against the seller. This means until you leave feedback, or let weeks pass, the seller will NOT receive any money from the transaction. Paypal protecting the buyer at the cost of the sellers rights, as usual.
WHAT??? How bloody ridiculous!! I have sold stuff on ebay in the past and never received any feedback for it - if I had to wait 21 days for a payment to be released to my bank account, that could cause some serious problems. Unfortunately the "How can I withdraw money from PayPal?" and "Withdrawing money from your PayPal account" links on the ebay help pages don't seem to work and there don't seem to be any replacements. Very effing helpful of them - thank you ebay. A quick Google search reveals this - http://timheuer.com/blog/archive/2009/01/0...g-payments.aspx - most of it is just filler, but there is a section that details the reasons why a payment would be on hold. This bothers me because, despite having a feedback score of 394, all positive, I don't have any Detailed Seller Rating. I sincerely hope that I am unfortunate enough to receive a Paypal payment in future, it's not held because the DSR is a factor.
13. Locking tuners, noiseless pickups, roller nut? I guess it'll be quieter than a standard Strat and i'll (theoretically) stay in tune better if you want to use the trem. If I was looking for a secondhand Strat and there was no difference in price I'd probably have the Plus. I wouldn't pay a premium for it though.
14. Not to worry lads, it's on ebay and I hope it'll do well. Golchen, I don't think I'll ever part with my Desertburst Les Paul - as I've been selling off my other guitars, it's the one I've made sure to keep hold of - partly because it's battered and bruised and not worth what the other ones are worth , partly because of how it looks and plays and sounds. Although, this Goldtop is remarkably similar to the Deserburst, which is why I bought it in the first place - same weight within a few grams (I think the DB is about 20 grams heavier), neck feels the same, balances the same - the GT is set up a bit better but that's easily rectified I guess. After this one goes, I've only got one Les Paul left (hard life isn't it) - the DB guitar - and I think I'll be buried with it
15. Teaser - I only just noticed your in Leicester. I'm going to send you a pick your brain PM!
16. This is the list so far, should have said Looking for some contemporary stuff to add to it. Teenage Kicks Johnny B Goode Saw Her Standing There Chelsea Dagger Route 66 Brown Eyed Girl Should I Stay Or Should I Go? I'm A Believer Don't Look Back In Anger Hey Joe Summer Of 69 Passenger I Fought The Law Seven Nation Army Smells Like Teen Spirit American Idiot Can't Stand Losing You Always Something There (Sandie Shaw, but a bit rocked up and me singing ) I predict A Riot Sex On Fire White Room Can't Get Enough Keep On Running Hey You Get Off My Cloud Long Road To Ruin Vertigo Substitute
17. That's my kind of list cheers! Keep 'em coming!
18. Guys I've ended the original auction as it wasn't displaying a link to the gallery picture and apparently this was a technical fault. I don't know if this is ebay playing silly buggers or flickr trying to prevent me from using an image that I own the copyright to and paid to have hosted on their site, without linking back to flickr (I know, their rules ). Anyway - the new link to the auction is - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270521098816. Mr Blue Cheese, feel free to do your stuff
19. Nash if you want it, I'm quite happy to pull the ebay auction! I do need paying for it though, you can't just have it
20. Thanks guys, keep 'em coming. I'm going to be playing guitar (and singing, God help us) in this band, although bass duties will be taken on by none other than BC's own Boy Thunder (who?). Already settled on Police, Nirvana, Cream and Green Day songs and Hey Joe too. Anybody got a cheap Unibass (no, thought so! )
21. Putting together a 3 piece for pubs and stuff like that. Wondered what sort of songs you would recommend. A lot of the stuff we do in the 5 piece sounds a bit empty as a 3 piece. Suggestions please!!
22. Would you like blue cheese by any chance? My listing clearly states that anybody from outside the UK wants to bid, they've got to email me before they bid. No emails and yet the current high bidder is from France. So annoying.
