  1. All of the above ‘proper techniques’ started out as an opinion. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ‘don’t blow the cheeks out’ for brass was decided upon by the musical aristocratic elite back in the day purely because it looked better. “We can’t have the brass section of the orchestra all blowing out their cheeks, it wouldn’t look right, it would be insulting to the Lords and Ladies whom come to appreciate our fine music!!!”
  2. I’ve seen a couple of live gigs online recently where the bassist has had the music on a stand turned sideways to the audience to reduce the area visible from the front. I play and learn new stuff mostly by ear, but lately due to an ever diminishing memory I have started writing out the first few bars of each section of a song just to get me started if I haven’t played that one for a few days. Or hours sometimes 🙄
  3. Yep. Me, I like a chunky neck. 50’s v on my Strat and 6 string on my basses. Comes from playing and learning on acoustic guitar first i think. 1.75 inch nut.
  4. I see what you did there. Nice.
  5. A guitar shop owner showed me years ago when I was buying my first guitar (Ibanez RT650) about the neck moving on a strat. I said it was off to one side. He took it off me. Gave it a whack with the heel of his hand halfway up the neck and gave it back to me and it was spot on. He said you should really loosen the bolts a little first.
  6. I said this about giving the neck a pull and more or less got flamed for it.
  7. Just not acceptable to most on this forum.
  8. I too have had a couple of really nice guitars from that factory. I think that Fender shipped most of their original machines there so you are getting stuff made on the same machines as made the iconic 50s and 60s guitars. I was just saying that maybe the human element has an impact on the final product.
  9. As a fellow sufferer I am stoked that this works for you. Long may it continue. Happy tunes!!!
  10. Is the quality control automated or is it done by a human?
  11. I am assuming that these are made in Mexico? when I was able I did a fair bit of motorcycle touring although I never ventured as far as Mexico I have seen areas in Spain and Portugal where the local towns are like a time warp. The residents are dressed in extremely faded old clothes, they have virtually nothing, the houses are extremely basic, built on dirt roads with dust all the time and they live on bread and tomatoes and other basic stuff they can cultivate themselves. They live with the oppressive heat most of the year and are always hiding from the sun. It is an existence that most of us never see or appreciate, I can imagine Mexico being very similar and then there’s the Fender Factory stuck there making the most of the cheap workforce. I might be wrong of course, but that’s how i see it.
  12. If it’s in short supply then no need to line one’s entire under garment, a simple pocket around the dangly bits would be sufficient.
  13. I make no apology for the fact that Clapton has been my absolute idol since I was a teenager and bought Behind the Sun on vinyl. I saw him for the first time around 2003 at the RAH. It was fantastic. I was as nervous before the gig as I used to get before my own gigs (until I found a technique that worked to calm that down a bit) in case he was crap lol. He wasn’t. I saw him another 2 times with VIP tickets so was almost within touching distance and watching him play up close was a great experience. Sadly now although he is still delivering a good live show his playing is no where near what it used to be due to illness and old age, and I wouldn’t go see him live again as I want to remember the great performances I have seen. Should he retire? I think he has a few times but keeps getting bored and comes back lol. Incidentally my wife asked me yesterday why I hadn’t been to see an old (in both ways) friend of mine recently and I replied because I hate seeing people I love grow old and frail. How selfish of me!!!
  14. I had to earth the neck on a guitar before. It picked up terrible static from the shiny neck finish. As a last ditch attempt to fix it I took the neck off and lined the pocket with foil so that the neck bolts pierced the foil when I replaced it. Then soldered an earth wire to the foil and connected it to the earth on volume pot. It worked. No more static. something in the finish was obviously conductive, once it was grounded via the neck plate and screws and foil it was sorted.
  15. It’s the same with most manufacturers I think. I looked at several Silver Sky guitars by PRS before I bought my 2, saw lots with poor string to neck alignment, string to pickup alignment and other issues. My Yamaha six string bass has a poor repair on the neck obviously done at factory or importers. My Ibanez EHB1506 nut wasn’t secured properly. All of which are premium priced instruments. My suggestion for the fix for the fender was somewhat tongue in cheek but I have seen it done more than once. Actually the only guitar I have that was perfect straight from the outset is my Clapton Strat so someone at Fender Corona gives a stinky poo.
  16. I think that would mostly be fixed with a side neck adjustment. So long as the nut is spaced ok which i think it was, just give the neck a whack. No need to even loosen the screws. !!!!
  17. I think any keyboard or stand alone sound module with midi would achieve this. Korg 05R/W Was a great little box and are cheap second hand.
  18. If all else fails a rubber O ring slightly oversized may push in and hold it there or you may have to tape just around the edge.
  19. This is an excellent mic and pickup. Had one on my EC Martin. I would think Fishman will send you the part, I had dealings with them if I remember correctly and I think they were really helpful. Might be worth asking around at your local guitar shops/workshops whilst you are waiting as it might be that there is one knocking around in someone’s pot of odd and sods. I’ve had a look in mine but sorry can’t help.
  20. Live at Daryls house normally churns out very high quality music. Love Rob Thomas singing that, or anything really. Matchbox Twenty with Unwell was one of my fav songs in my acoustic set. It fitted my mental health well. Lol.
  21. There’s a very simple fix to this. You don’t need to bother with shielding anything. Simply earth yourself to the bass. I had a similar problem with a PRS guitar ( not a cheap instrument) which was fully shielded already. I used an adhesive pad, the sort used on tens machine for pain relief which I stuck on my arm and used a crocodile clip to run the wire from the pad to the trem springs in the rear cavity. So I was doing no more than “touching the guitar” all the time. Noise gone. Problem solved.
  22. Further to this ^^^ I would like to add that seeing music as a competition also leads to not sharing and helping fellow musicians by refusing to show them how to play said piece of what would appear to be a startlingly difficult piece of music when actually it’s easier than it sounds. I have certainly been guilty of this in the past I am ashamed to say. It is a lot easier these days to find lessons on facetube of how to etc etc than in my day, although I still do it the old fashioned way just by listening to the music. It may be pushy parents but in the case of Ellen plays bass, which my 2 yo absolutely loves, it is clear that she thoroughly enjoys what she does and the advancement of her playing from the early videos to now is astounding and for me an absolute pleasure to witness. I hope she continues with the same enthusiasm and goes on to have a fabulous career in the way Nathan East has.
  23. Does the noise you are trying to eliminate stop when you are touching the metal parts on the bass?
