I think mine were 42mm. Not a deep profile front to back, so they don't feel massive.

If I recall right, there was also an option  (special order) for a slimmer 38mm like jazz bass width profile too back in the day. Seems they are pretty rare though.

I've got a Sabre with a jazz profile.  It's a wonderful neck - but I find 42mm necks a bit fat for my little hands, so it suits me fine.

What's the frequency Kenneth by REM

The rhythms are just weird. Every time I play it, I'll play something half a beat early or late.

All of REMs bass lines I've tried are rhythmically weird but they sound so good when played right.

Agreed- I've played a few in covers bands and they're more challenging than they first appear.

I’m looking at replacing the pots and wiring in a P bass that I’ve just bought from another chatter.

I was about to click the BIN button on a pre-wired harness but then thought I should check my box of spares.

low and behold I’ve got everything I “might” need CTS pots, fresh wires, brand new cap, switch craft Jack… sounds great, except for the values…

    There’s a 250k for the volume, 500k for the tone and a 0.068uf cap.

has anyone had any experience of wiring a P bass in this configuration? Is it worth a punt or should I stop being so tight and get myself another 250k pot 🤣

Try it, it's no great shakes to get a 250k pot and switch later if you don't like it.

    Experiment !

I run a recording studio in Stoke and I thought it might be good to document some of the more amusing episodes, and get other perspectives on it too

I've done some work with a local band. They book me as a producer, but as soon as they arrived, their frontman said "You've got your work cut out for you today, you'll be recording 7 full tracks". Not long after, I clarified "so, you're the producer today, right, I'll just be the engineer?" and he was quite happy with that. He wasn't very happy with the end product and so had to book back in to re-do rushed vocals etc. which was predictable. After every vocal take, I would say something like "cool" or "OK" just to indicate the end of the take. He would take it as a compliment and thank me. Towards the end of the vocal session, he picked up my guitar and started to play it without asking.

    Is this normal behaviour?

So do you have to turn off your fridge, internet router etc too?

This kind of scheme usually asks that you don't run anything high power things like tumble-dryers, heaters or experimental fusion reactors.

Or you could use a battery-operated headphone amp, or indeed, you may NEED to buy yourself a lovely acoustic bass guitar... 😉😎

See, this is the attitude we like to see !

    Glad to be of assistance!

They had literally everybody in our year group take that test over the course of a week, and of the lot of us it was a group of maybe 10ish who were offered lessons, 8ish who accepted, 6ish who stuck with it to junior school and maybe 4ish who were still playing by secondary. Having just had a little look online, one appears to now be the leader of the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra!

And then there's me paying bass in a metal band; no idea which notes I'm playing, and any ability to read or knowledge of theory evaporated years ago, but I enjoy what I do. The interesting thing was that the test said I had perfect pitch all those years ago, and whilst I'm not sure I'd fully agree with that, I have indeed always preferred to just play by ear.

I didn't last long - it soon became apparent that my giant overbite and the mouthpiece of the horn weren't a match made in heaven :)
