My latest plan is EQ, but instead of using the DAW, which I'm sure any competent person would do, I've been planning on getting an empresse paraeq deluxe and doing all my EQing before it hits the DAW.

That's fairly ridiculous solution if i can just do it digitally i suppose, but i like the tactile feel of outboard gear.

I'm with you on this E.

I usually get a sound I like using external stuff and pedals and the use the DAW as a recorder to tweak the EQ slightly, compress a bit, whatever fits. Same with guitars too. Hardly modern, but it's my workflow baby ;)

What I would suggest, especially with bass, is recording a clean/DI track at the same time as your effected sound. What can sound good now might need something later, and having than clean track about to have later can be a boon.

Nice heavy sound on that clip BTW

    You are a lucky one.

I am thankful that Herself thinks some basses are worth picking up. Just before Christmas I showed her a picture of a big orange hollow body Gretsch , she took one look and said “get it”.

Mrs. Pook does this as well.

Hurrah for our splendid spouses !!

  3. One of the best bands I was in split up largely because of lots of drugs were being consumed and we all ended up a bit messed up all the time, anyhow...the final moment basically hinged on an argument about whether I was sleeping with the cornet player.

Seems both very debauched and very polite. The cornet player :)

    Sex, drugs and.....brass ?

Speak to your band buddies and agree to take a band timeout !

Dont just leave as you will most likely regret it later. It’s surprising how a few weeks away can refresh the mind and make things seem clear once more. Stay strong

    This.

I made one a while ago and it was really useful - selectable mid frequency was the best thing - really loud too if you want to use it as a boost!

I built one too. Very straightforward kit - Fuzzdog usually are hassle-free - it's a very clean, noiseless EQ pedal.

Whilst I'm very sorry about how it stung, I hope you appreciate that I tried to word that letter such that it was clear you nearly made it, and that you'd surely be accepted the next year if you worked a little on your spitefulness.
Apart from that bit you were the perfect candidate, and we'd happily welcome you!

    Kind regards,
    BT

I might be OK - I'm speaking to another organisation who seem to prize spitefulness...random behaviour...that kind of thing.

Who ? Why, SpaceX of course.

    ;)

Watched this earlier and thoroughly loved it. What a wonderful interview, great insight, and what a decent, honest and amazing player. Loved it. Will be watching again 🫡

He does strike me a thoroughly decent chap, aside from being quite the bass player.

Not a huge Tool fan, but I'd advise anyone to give them a listen just for the bass.

Ok, I'm confused by your confusion re: the meaning of worthy  in this context, so...

    an example to help explain:

Pete Plastic & the Chuckups, a pre-punk band from Hastings - not even a local, musical or cultural phenomenon. Not worthy of a biopic.

The Beatles a rock n roll, pop, psychedelic etc band from Liverpool - a worldwide musical and cultural phenomenon. Worthy of a biopic.

    😉

    Thanks for your example.

    I understand what you're saying

Initially, I thought, "Oh dear!" when I first heard about it, then it occured to me that there hasn't been anything remotely like an official/endorsed biopic of the moptops.

I usually avoid biopics - unfortunately, I couldn't avoid the Queen flick as my son was a fan. I like the music, but Jeez, I thought Bohemian Rhapsody was awful.

If Queen and Elton are worthy of biopics, then surely, there's no question The Beatles are more than worthy.

    I just don't see what's left to say, I really don't.

I'm not sure of what being worthy of a biopic means to be honest. They're made to make money. They're made if the  subject is saleable. But then I really don't like biopics ;)

Sorry to be so cynical, and go for you life it's your thing. Just no interest here.

Hooks on the bottoms of pedals, loops on the board. I think that's the general way.

Yes, hooks on the board are inviting a world of lint.

    Lint, folks....a world of it.

I tried Ableton live and found it lacked user friendliness. Nothing seemed very intuitive about it.

Agreed. I got dragged into using Ableton for years as it was the DAW of choice amongst my friends and we used it to collaborate.

I ended up hating it. Each to their own of course, but as a general-use DAW, almost anything else I've used has been more straightforward.

I use Reaper, I paid for it - it's a steal for what it can for.
