Respect the work. Interesting to see how different the profile of the American necks are compared to the Mexicans. It’s like the Americans have a beer belly 😂

Hey, Slayer told you this....it really should be no surprise

"There only one place to go...." :)

Look at my post again, and see when it was edited last compared to when your post was posted and edited.

Though I guess The New Yorker hardly is the language of the soul or the most advanced form of communication we humans are capable of either, or any of the other examples for the matter.

I guess the former examples can be argued, but I'd still argue that of all art forms music is the one that lives up to this description the most, and neuroscience seems to support this, as it is one activity, both intensive listening and playing, together with deep meditation, that activates most of our brain simultaneously.

You missed my point, but I can't be bothered.

I'm sure it stands as a suitable opposite to 'Take A Break !'

I'm glad you don't find issue with my fourth example though - you're obviously a man of some taste ;)

It's not an urge, not anymore than staying alive is an urge, it's the language of the soul, the most advanced form of communication we humans are capable of, and it's tragic and sad to see it reduced to merely cheap background entertainment.

Yes, and there's Solzhenitsyn and Dan Brown, Kubrick and Bay, The New Yorker and Take A Break!, Stargate SG-1 and Deep Space Nine, and so on...

It's all art, it's all creative, you just need to know how to look at it.

  5. It's odd...I've received very few compliments about my bass playing over the years, and those only from friends, so possibly not 100% unbiased opinion. I'm quite open about saying how much I enjoyed what someone's played or the part they've come up with...I know not everyone feels that relaxed doing that.

When I read about folks here having old band members call them up to get new stuff together...also never happened to me...

Maybe I'm not very good after all ! There are certainly days when I look at my bass collection and think 'who am I fooling?'.

There are serious scientific methods for determining the answers to questions like this. Here is one of the more accessible ones ...

The-Full-Study-Model-The-mediating-effect-of-the-authentic-self-in-the-relation-between attachment and emotional intelligence and fragmented cognitive concepts. Note: * p < .05; Choice = Choicefulness; FSC = Fragmented Self Concept; FRC = Fragmented Relationship Concept; all factor loadings on each correspondent latent variable were significant at ps < .001.

  7. I've listened to a few songs (cuts ? tracks ?) from it now and it's OK. I'm no fusion buff, but it pretty much what I'd expect from a fusion album.

Pleasant enough - the excursions keep the ear interested, but nothing much really made me sit up and have a 'Heyyyyy !' moment. All expertly played though, no doubting that.

There, that's enough serious Pook for the moment :)

  8. I use an IR of a Sunn 200s from ShiftLine, which is a 2x15 I believe. Part of their  free pack iirc.

I downloaded a handful of free IRs and just chose one I liked.

That lives in a NUX Melvin Lee, but I just use it as a cab sim, not the amp modeller. Preamp duties for that are handled by a Schaltechnik Gallien Kruger preamp.

I too tend to prefer tweeters off but if I recall on my old Ashdown cabs it had three positions, off, low and high. I ran it either off or low

I still do the same on my Ampeg cab as it adds a tiny bit of presence I feel but generally I’m a tweeter off guy

Yep, me too, I just prefer the sound of tweeter-less cabs. I like clank, but not like that.

I have to admit, I used to get really annoyed when people would have a go at The Beatles. Now, I just roll my eyes and get on with my day.

Regarding the tone on the YouTube video that has prompted this thread, I'm guessing that the original uploader used one of those clever AI things to isolate the tracks. While they're good, they're far from perfect and they tend to make the "isolated" copies sound a little warbly, to say the least. I'd imagine if you dug out the mastertape, the original bass sound would be a lot richer and fuller.

As for the intonation... yep, it's not perfect. But in the context of the completed song, it's decent. And if it got past the scrutiny of George Martin, it'll do for me. The early-mid era Beatles records are generally snapshots of four blokes playing together in a studio. If one guy fluffed something, if the rest of the track was good, that was the take they kept. When the band ceased live performances and practically moved into Abbey Road, performances got a lot more polished. And Macca was playing a Rickenbacker so his playing became less "approximate" beyond the seventh fret.

It's OK to not like The Beatles. It's OK to pick faults at their deficiencies. But in spite of dubious intonation and questionable tone, they did OK, didn't they?

Good points indeed - it's a snapshot and often the overall performance was the priority, not perfection across the board.
