    just found this.

Two outputs can be combined to deliver more current (mA) to a pedal. With more and more digital effects on the market there is a growing need for such combinations. In this case the voltage remains unchanged, but the output of two power supply outputs is combined to double the available current. These adapter cables are called current doublers. For example, by combining two nine volts outputs that deliver 100 mA each the current doubler will output nine volts and 200 mA.

that should do the trick. I do have 2 open 300mA outputs.

    Sounds promising.

  2. Yo Big E. !

    At 500mA, I guess it's something digital ?

Give it the juice it craves - digital stuff can act strangely if underpowered.

Also, it's not going to make your power supply happy.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I did try that once and shot an additional 15mg of methamphetamine, but that had a negative effect on my ability to focus, and the drummer didn't appreciate me starting to bang his China cymbal wildly mid song with the headstock of my bass, so I decided to go back to normal dosage before a show. ;)

  4. I'm not familiar with that brand, but those arms and the magnifier look like they'll just snag cables.

If you can I'd get a more slimline station and get a seperate helping hands and magnifier (with a larger lens to boot !)

(I have an Antex 660A which is great, but I appreciate it outside your budget)

  5. Here's my angle - hope it's useful...You're in a band, playing the instrument you love. You've had a great time, by the sound of it, over the last year playing you music you largely enjoy.

Savour it and try not to let the imperfections sour the scene.

Right, I'm off to sit on a a lotus leaf for a bit :)

  6. Gig bags for me, usually something like a Ritter with a reasonable amount of padding.

Being able to carry a bass on my back makes things so much easier IMHO.

Just watch your extra headroom !*

*Especially on the up escalator at Highbury & Islington tube - I swear they have a bit sticking out just to snare basses :)

Are the stand-offs secure at the chassis end?

    Yes, rock solid.

Update: The nylon washers tamed the vibration a lot, they could only go on the top of the board as there was a grounding pad on one of of the stand-offs. Still a slight noise, but much more ignorable. Huzzah.

However, I've decided that the amp needs a decent service. It's working and sounding great, but by the looks of it it's not been touched in 25 years, so I'm dropping it off for a thorough check-up thus week - something that my maintenance skills aren't really up to.

It's Trace Elliot fun for a short while, whilst it's having it's holiday :)

Thanks for the help folks !

I dug it out and thought I might as well sell it as it wasn't being used, but I worried that it would be unlikely to have much appeal with the feeble sound. I wondered whether there might have been a broken wire or one of the pots wasn't working right. So I found a wiring diagram online, took it apart and guess what. The pickup selector switch was incorrectly wired. It must have been done wrong at the factory because I bought it brand new. Don't they test things before shipping them? Apparently not.

Broke out the soldering iron and switched a couple of wires on the selector switch over and blimey. It rattles the windows. Very pleasing.

Well spotted! Mine had a very similar fault - the switch only selected two of the available options, and a check with a multimeter did show only two output  resistances, not three.*

Glad you got it sorted...they do have a lovely sound. Neck was a bit chunky for me, so mine's on permalend to a old bass playing buddy who was without a bass.

(*I had to explain Ohm's Law to GuitarGuitar to get them to stop saying it didn't have a fault and accept the return 🙄 and get one that did work !)

  9. An aside: One barrier to me using multi-fx/modelling boxes is my eyesight.

I have to switch glasses/remove them to read, so adjusting anything via a screen is a pain, either by PC or screens on pedals on the floor. I just juggle glasses all the time !

Sitting just using a screen is fine, but mixed stuff is hard.

Knobs on traditional pedals are just easier for me.

  10. I was all lined up to audition to play in performance with Glenn Branca.

But this was during my drinking years, so never got it together, made my excuses and blew it out.

There are many, many regrets from this time in my life, but of the musical ones, this one still pricks, and pricks deeply.

    So it goes.

If it's any consolation,  my SVP-PRO loves to vibrate at 50Hz. Think it's mains induced vibration from the transformer in my case. 🤪

Oh yes, mind did too...like a substation !

I found a folded piece of thin card on top of the transformer provided just the right amount of shimming between it and the chassis to tame it a touch.

Silly idea to mount the transformer to the PCB rather than the chassis IMHO - I reckon it's physically noisier and eventually the stress ruins the PCB. Mine's pretty much an ornament now, as the tracks round the transformer are in such a bad state.

Just had a closer look, and it looks like it supposedly was part of the Russian space program too, however that is supposed to make sense. :scratch_one-s_head:

Hmm, it doesn't look as heavy on spheres and pipes as Russian space hardware usually does, but who knows ? Maybe it's for lunar basses?
