they both play very similar to be honest, slim necks, fast etc, not much to call in it -
Big gig tonight for me and quite close to home for once, lots of people going that I know so dom I use. Warwick $$ sounds good, get better tone, dont look as good Gibson Thunderbird, hard to get great mids and upper tone to shine through, but looks cool as f***. decisions decisions what do you reckon chaps a bit better in tone (probably only me would notice anyway) or looking good?
I try avoid doing feelers, but this is why I'm doing it now. I've got a perfectly good Eden D410XLT in good condition that I have recently got a cover made and a set of castors from Eden's UK distributor. I'm perfectly happy with it ...it's not the pro's touring choice for nothing. However, there's some goal post shifting going on. I leave the cab in the band's trailer after gigs, and when the trailer is used for other things (like moving motorcycles) the gear comes out and lives in the guitarist's printing works. But he's saying his use of the storage area might change very soon and it would be better if I brought my gear to and from each gig. With my D115 and stuff, that's a bit difficult for me. I can probably do that with the D210 that I've just got from 2x18 but not with the 4x10. I have no photos and the cab is with the band's gear in Guiseley near Leeds, with the next gig being on the 28th March. So, I'm thinking it would be easier for all concerned if I find it a new home. But I've no photos for now and it isn't in my possesion until the 28th, hence the feeler. But if you fancied it, then it could give you time to sell anything you might need to replace. I've invested about £370 in buying the cab (from Molan) and getting the cover made and the castors in. But I'm open to offers below that. Maybe open to trade for another 8ohm (smaller) cab.
I have an eden 115xl its 8ohm, smaller and lighter and a great cab, swap with cash?
Malcolm McLaren's version and J. Lydon's version are quite contradictory aren't they! Compare and contrast The Great Rock and Roll Swindle and The Filth and the Fury. Lydon's book No Blacks No Dogs No Irish is a good read too. That's where I heard the 'sp**k baguette' story. I thought it pretty funny when Matlock rejoined, assuming that he'd read the book ;-) I guess to most people Sid was the bass player, right enough, so yeah it's got to be a white Fender P. Played by a very pale skinny bloke with a sneer and a moronic public image.
This sid has put a few lbs on and I aint eating bob monk buttys for no man !! -

Just to put all of this to bed I am going to get a squier vintage modified P that second hand will cost me about£150.00 and will change the pickup. If the dep job goes on a little longer and I am into it I will look again at possibly the fender delux or something. Thanks to everyone that chipped in and to the people that started having a go about gear snobbery. As Steve Jones said to Bill Grundy f£$k off you dirty f£$%&rs, you c£$t -
It sounds like you have a pretty fixed idea in your head, so why are you asking us for advice then disagreeing with everything which doesn't fit in with your stated opinion above? I'll also go out on a limb and suggest that this thread is starting to take on a whiff of gear snobbery.
I didnt ask for any input into cabs or amps I simply asked advice on what fender to get as I dont have a clue about them. I know what sound I would like to achieve but dont know what model to get. I'll also go out on a limb and say you must have gear paranoia or something to have suggested the above -

At the time it was perfect, it was the opposit of disco and the music of the time, the clothing was about shocking our parents and peers and rebelling from the norm (just the same way the hippys did it before them) the music was just loud, noisy and full of swearing and the pistols were just perfect for that purpose. They looked shocking, sounded shocking etc. I bet going to a pistols gig in 76 was more about the excitement of doing something bad, not telling your parents where you were going, lots of scarey people, dressing up, etc than listening to the music. It was a fashion at the time, I hated rock and roll music and still do, it was just the fasion at the time, I hated hippy stuff as well, but in my teens punk was in, my parents were pulling there hair out when I was getting dressed as a punk and I loved it. I expect the next generation who were into poodle rock or grunge will probably hate punk. You had to be there -
Strange attitude, I must say. You are in a punk tribute band (god knows why such a thing would exist, it would be anathema to a real punk). You want to look like Sid Vicious but sound like Victor Wootten? Ain't gonna work, bud. Can you imagine Victor Wootten sounding like Sid Vicious? It would be ridiculous. You don't need to upgrade anything. Do the job properly. Get a new USA Standard Fender P or an old Jap Squier P - they both play great and sound the part. Bin the Eden too and get a dirty old Marshall. Your playing style will need to change too. No fingerstyle for you, pick only.
I dont aspire or ever want to sound like wootten thanks. Having a quality set up means reliability, tone control, and the flexibility to adapt to any venue, Mattlock who insists on using Fender rumble amps or ampeg is still playing for the pistols and he plays fingerstyle. With quality gear you are prepaired for all situations and you can "dirty" your sound as much as you like from that base -
The Deluxe Active Jazz is pretty good for the money (about £530), I've played mine in punk bands, got a great tone from it. But I'd probably go with a Deluxe Active Precision if it was specifically for punk, then you can use the P-bass pickup on it's own, but the Jazz pickup is there if you need it. And it's also got the Jazz neck. In fact... I want one! http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~F...ple~ID~6876.asp No point going for the expensive US models if you're not really into it, but this would make an excellent compromise.
thats more like it, thanks -

Hi Guys, I have never owned or wanted to own a fender J or P After lots of different guitars I have settled on a Warwick $$ and a Gibson Thunderbird through all Eden gear and am very happy. However.... I have a new project that I am about to join thats a UK punk & pistols tribute and have to have the look as well as the sound. a big white flag covers my beutiful Eden gear so thats ok but I need to get hold of a white fender with black scratch plate. Having never owned one I am a bit baffled by the whole range USA, chinese, P MIMN???? so what would you recommend? The Tbird has a slim neck as does the $$ so should I be getting a Jazz? do they look the same, do I get upgraded pickups etc as I couldnt do with a crap sound, I love a new string clanky crisp sound through 10" speakers and only play fingerstyle. Do I get a lakland or something that looks the same (mega bucks I know) I know I will get some good advice from you guys so thanks in advance

Hi, I have an Eden metro Combo for sale they are £1600 new and I am looking for £750. After selling my Trace Ellioy Ah600smx with 4x10 and 1x15 I needed something smaller as the rig was killing me and I couldnt get it in the car, I went to the bass centre to buy a SWR redhead combo, they had an Eden in as well so I tried them both together..... I went off to the bank and got the eden, no contest at all, its awesome. It has a solid state side to the amp and a seperate valve side so you can have whatever sound you like. The sound is immence and as a 210 rig it blows away anything you come accross in pubs and clubs of a much bigger size. The speakers have been totally rebuilt by Surrey amps at a cost of £340.00 and they have not even been played through yet, they are breaking in at the moment in my garage. The speakers will have a full guarantee from Surrey amps the Eden recommended engineers (who do all the bass speakers for genesis etc) I have a 115xl for sale as well if you need to beef up the volume for £275.00, I would expect the combo to handle most gigs in pubs etc or add the 115 for clubs and open air festivals, if you want to go insane I have a huge 215xlt for sale for £350, the 215 and metro will tear peoples clothes from them if they get too close. All items are available to try and I have some other Eden cabs not for sale but you can mix and match them around to see what they sound like together, I have a 210xst, 210xlt, 410xlt. Please drop me a line if you are interested and check out the spec on the Eden web site, they have some great info on the site and some reviews of the metro . When I first got my eden gear I was dissapointed as I couldnt get it to sound how I wanted, I had to go back to basics and after possibly 10 gigs I started to learn how to influence the sound properly, now I wouldnt go near anything else, I get compliments on my sound all the time from other bass players with just a T bird going in direct with no effects. I had a blow out the other day and dug out my trusty Trace Elliot ah600smx head and 4x10 cab and cant believe how crap it sounded by comparison. I also had a mate come over with his EBS rig, he had a 2x12 and 2x10 cab with the latest EBS head and I set it up next to my WT550 and a 6x10 set up, we set bith rigs to a flat EQ and tried a MM sterling and T bird. like for like both set flat the Eden rig sounded far far better in my opinion, clearer, punchier and just better

I play my gibson t bird every week and love it, its a one trick pony and does what it does, plays rock, yes the neck dives terribly and is a pain but I am used to it now. You cant get as much variation in sound as an active, I have a warwick $$ had a musicman, have a jaydee but I still grab for the t bird when its gig time. the neck is surprisingly fast and slim more like a J neck than a P, I love mine to bits. -
go for an eden 212xlt simply awesome and comes in 8 or 4 ohm

How do you clean a black warwick scratches
grimbeaver replied to grimbeaver's topic in Repairs and Technical
Well I have given it a bloody good ironing and it didnt work sorry, if it did it wasnt noticable. I tried differing heats and pressures but it didnt lift any out, some scratches are quite deep though. I have stripped the whole thing down, cleaned it up and polished it and we are looking a bit better. I think my 3 year old daughter has disposed of my sharpi black pen so I will test that out tomorrow and let you know how it works -
Hi, I have just picked up a black warwick $$ and it looks like it has been a bit roughly treated, it has a lot of scratches that look silvery to the eye, has anyone had any sucess (or failures) at trying to clean these off? Any help appreciated Regards
