I'm just curious what is needed to make a decent studio. We have a recording console that can direwire into a computer, a midi controller keyboard, speakers etc. I'm just wondering what else? compressors? outboards.. whatever they are?

So I see if you sign up you get a free set of strings. Are they any good? Is it worth it?

Well I go on makes rather than maodels and finishes as I know what I like that way!

And I thought I was the only one who was a sucker. I'm starting to realise that the gear doesn't matter as much as the practice does. BUT getting something new to play with gives you inspiration and motivation to practice. win win, except the bank balance.

Personally I think I'm a bit of a sucker for it. I bought my first 'expensive' bass £650 was pretty expensive for me! It was '94 Warwick Thumb, I know dirk lance didn't use the thumb but he did use a warwick so I wanted one. Also I do love it's tone it's yummy! But now I think I would like another 'expensive' bass as I want a night and day scenario. Have the warwick and say a lakland... oh ben kenney from the same band plays a lakland. I'm a sucker, damn it!

Just out of curiosity, How many of you have bought a bass being influenced by the fact a certain someone plays it? I know for a lot of us our local shop doesn't have an amazing selection all of the time therefore test runs aren't possible, therefore buying 'blind' off the internet is quite a common place thing, is it not?

Which cabinet should I choose? The are both 12 inch speakers, do they do the same job?

I often hear talk about epifani, bergatino, barfaced et al. But I rarely see anyone speak of mesa cabs on here. Are they as good as competitors? Are they worth the same money? Do they 'have' a sound?

So I went along to hear the cab, I brought my own bass and head. I plugged in and started to play, and there was this sound as if the speakers were blew. sort of fuzzy in the lows. Anyway I was like I think it is broken. And all he said was that he likes a bit of grit in his sound.... wasn't impressed. I tried to explain that you put that in, rather than let the cab dictate if your sound is 'gritty'. But there was just no talking to him. Oh well....

That's what I was thinking, the seller said make an offer. So 200-250 is about right. cheers

Hey I have an oppurtunity to purchase a 4x8 swr cab. I think they were discontinued in 1997 so what is a reasonable price for one?

Hello all, I recently got it into my head that maybe an effects pedal would go down a treat, problem is I have no experience in this field. Where do I start? I play mostly rock I'd say, nothing massively hard. I do like the chorus sound and I suppose a touch of delay. But I also enjoy odd synth-y sounds For my first dive in should I go for one or two single pedals or a multi unit? I was looking at the ibanez cs9 and the tc nova modulator? and what about compression, is it important?

Hello, What should the refernce pitch for standard tuning?

How possible is it to get a white lakland DJ 4 preferably (as I have my 5 and want variety, although they say laklands B's are killer) with a maple neck and white inlays and scratch plate? Also should I just get the 5'er for the B? Is it really that good?

I was just wondering as I found it very very muddy and pretty unclear. it is very loud for a 20w amp though. My thinking was that orange mustn't be all that clean so to speak.

I recently purchased a 20W combo made by a orange. Would it be fair to judge most orange amps and such on this amp ie. fundamental sound? rather than spending loads and loads trying figure out if they are for me or not?
