1. Yeah they are. Didn't use a DI. Just wanted to keep it mic-cab Got a few demos i've done recently with the matamp. I'll see if I can dig the cd out and stick a song up on myspace.
2. Yeah did previously own an ad200 which is a lovely amp in it's own right plus it's lot lighter to carry than the gt200! In short, the matamp > than the orange. Tone is a subjective thing, but for me the matamp is perfect. Both good amps though. It's louder, has more depth, thicker tones, more snarl and is obviously extremely well made.. How much of the immediate tonal differences are attributed to the jj KT88s in my power section as appose to the 6550s in the orange, I don't know. The matamp is also definitely less 'peaky' than the orange in terms of the compression you get from the valves...smoother response, more natural sounding. I'll post some recordings when I can. I've got clips of the orange and the matamp somewhere....
3. Thanks JG appreciate your kind words. We'll have to get some shows on down brizzle with your band (you can try the gt then if u like) as we're struggling to get any shows around here. Yeah the GT200 is brilliant, perfect for my needs. Absolutely massive bottom end and plenty of natural dirt which is what I go for. I find it really compliments active basses in that it can take out some of the brittleness and replace it with girth. The EQ is quite basic but it does a good job. There's not really a bad sound to be found. And between the depth/drive/eq + bass eq a multitude of sounds can be achieved. I tend to run it full bore as i'm not really looking for a clean sound..tend to stick a bluebeard and wah in front of it as well which sounds great.
4. Slave to the grind gt200 into berg nv610
5. Yeah i think we were pretty lucky and caught them with some downtime. I was glad my guitarist saw the light and got one as well.
6. They built my gt200 and my guitarists gt120 in a week
7. I think I'd definitely get one as well. What's a little rock Joe? edit: yep, with you now, just googled it. There's a few whispers about new matamp gear in the pipeline. It would be great to find out more. Hybrid amps etc.
8. fair play these amps are amazing. i love mine, gloriously heavy with a glorius tone to match. I want a slave now to go with it. anyone know if they are planning all tube mini mat bass versions?
9. Bob cheers mate but not my thing.... BUMP!!
10. whatcha got, cash adjustments either way? great low gain od
11. Great basses Ci - been playing them for 10 years now and they're still my number one 'go to' instruments. Ripped the nut out of mine yesterday as part of a full set up (which mine really really needs!)
12. Yeah I didn't bother with that option. Reminded me of my old trace which kept blowing up I wanted to keep it nice and simple....
13. Only just seen this Theo, I don't mind taking paypal, but would prefer a cheque if that's any good to you? cheers
14.
In an age of modern amps, cabs and bass electronics, why do some players just play with a plectrum, surely tonal variety is much wider finger stylie,or are we stuck in a rut.I cant seem to justify using one, except sometimes playing guitar,............discuss
Bro you are the bass equivalent of two old people copulating Your mind is so narrow, this isn't bassnazi.com
15. It's probably been used with a planet waves type banana plug jack. Over time they cause bad connection as the jack is slightly wider in places. It happened to mine a long time ago, replaced it, started using proper leads and it's been fine since.
16. Exactly! Clean is for losers Ci! haha. You're right tho, they are best for full on metal, the clean channel is useless! He's selling the amp as he's kind of come to the end of the road with it, been using it for over 10 years so is looking for a new sound...
17. No worries Ci, looks like it's sold pending now anyway. Yeah recorded the entire album with the 5150, they are great amps. In fact i've done a bit of recording with it recently on bass and it sounds evil! Too big to fit to my pedal board tho otherwise i would of had it The combos are supposed to be beautiful sounding (less wattage yeah?) wouldn't mind hearing one of those in action.
18. Ci he's looking for £600 for it. As I say it's a hell of an amp, in very good condition and it's been super reliable since he's owned it..
19. cheers for the heads up!
20. I'm placing an ad for my guitarist. He's looking to sell his 5150 mark 1. It's in 9/10 condition, and is very reliable. Full service history via Nobles of Cardiff, it's been well looked after. It's located in Pontypridd and is available to demo if anyone wants a blast. If anyone is interested drop me a PM. Cheers Tim
21. Nah man i'm talking about long sustains (with little degradation) at quiet - decent volume levels, the only comp i've had that could do that was a monte modded cs-3. It does a good job holding single notes nice and full beyond where your sustain would normally tail off. It's mainly for a few parts in songs i've got edited for spelling lol
22. hmmm...contrary to what I was saying about compression being over rated etc, i'm finding I do actually need to use it for a couple of songs to get long sustained single notes. Doh! backpedal...... *whistle*
