2. Right now im using the Rotosound Steve Harris SH77 ones on Loz's (hey man =) ) old P-Bass. While im totally happy with the sound, im having a hard time with the A,D,G strings. I find their tension a bit too much for my fingers. However, im happy with the E one and will be keeping it. So i'm thinking either a new set up with lower action, if the tech finds that's possible, or a new set of lower tension strings. Could you suggest a set of strings that fits that description. Always searching for warm and mellow tone, im not after trebly or brilliant. Any thickness is good (although the thicker the better). Thanks.
3. Is one of these still available btw?
4. You sold your old olympic white to me and you have bought a new one hehe. Although i had lots of second thoughts before buying it (mostly due to my inexperience), i love your bass man. Still use it as a main (although i would like to test a few hundred others) and still my gas thirst is calmly sleeping=)

6. Hey im sorry for the offtopic but maybe you've heard or found somewhere of a way to "upgrade" a sound city head to more watt power? I would like some more headroom for my 120! =)
7. Trade for a B120 MKIV one plus cash at my side? Also, how do you manage to keep it in such a clean condition? Especially its leather.
8. Thanks a ton mr foxen. Unfortunately, i live in Greece.(need to add my location soon). The amp was fixed quick afterall, it was a dead tube in the preamp that also resulted in a burnt resistor.
9. Yeah, we tested it with another cab, different cables, guitar, settings, everything we could imagine. Forgot to mention that.
10. So, im hosting 2 cool people at my place and the guitarist's amp, kinda broke last night. Crap sound like its out of tune and buzzing at the same time. Very low volume as well. The thing is that when you turn the amp off and in those very few seconds before it turns off, the sound is the normal one. Back on, crappy sound again. The tubes seem to be working. We opened it and nothing seemed loose or out of order, but of course we arent specialized. The fuses arent blown either. I need help really fast, because the guys are in the middle of a big tour and we have like a day to fix this. We will not fix this by ourselves of course, we have a tech around here but cant reach him so far due to being Sunday, and we could always narrow down our possible solutions.
11. Could anyone say around how much these (b120) go for nowdays? (i got one and just wanna know, nothing more). And yes, your ss condition is pristine~
12. Straight sale? If so around how much? =)
13.
At the risk of being shot down again, I suggest the OP not get put off by all this technical stuff. If you feel like making a box, make a box. You can only learn from it. if what you learn is that using software to design your next box is a good idea, then it`s still worth it. If you get a good box, result. Point is to do something. MM
Thanks for the replies im learning new and usefull stuff here, although its hard to understand everything. I just want to clarify again, that im not really making the cab myself. The technician will do that, i will just pick the components. And since we talked about the rest, the actual speaker is the thing missing. He told me he always prefered working with celection since he considers it to be the best, but hes kinda old school and thats why im asking for some more info on other stuff that are maybe more fitting for me. And about buying a reputable brand second-hand cab from here, im all up (matamp for example), but an extra 80gbp is surely added to the price for shipping to Greece so..
14. Im thinking about making my own 15" cab since the shipping rates of the really good cabs are way too high for me. Their prices too. My local technician here told me he would make one for me for about 1/3 the price of the "famous" ones, whatever that means. So im considering my options. Another 2x15 (im already using a 2x15 fender bassman in the studio we are playing, which unfortunately isnt what it used to be-needs service) would be ideal, but I will be going for a 1x15 with an adjustable extra 6" for some extra mids or highs or so. Need something i can actually carry around if needed and i dont have a truck. So, i read some reviews, and im between eminence legend 15" and celestion BL15 (300 or 400), green series, for a more warm/vintage/low-endish tone. What would you suggest? We're playing mostly heavy rock stuff so lots of low end is needed. Any other speakers advice? Neodymium or the older heavy stuff?

16. The TC electronics one seems ok (with a an affordable price just like a used EBS), although i kinda dislike having to deal with that many knobs. The nova dynamics is a bit too expensive. @mcgraham: They're not really ALL over the place, just witnessing a volume loss at some points of my playing (usually when playing faster). But reading simon's post gave me a lot of hints about compressors and yeah you're right its all about sorting out your technique, relaxing and most importantly feeling sure about what you're playing (that comes with practise too). Thanks for the replies btw.
17. Thanks Simon very useful post =) Straightened out a few minor questions i had. And about Ovnilab, yeah i know this guy's site and gave the faq a few readings. But there are so many reviews there. I would just go for one though and as it seems lots of people suggest using the EBS.
18. Tha ithela poly poly na dokimasw to sft alla menw komotini opote dyskolo =\\ (I would really like to test the sft myself but i live a bit far away - translation) Free bump.
19. Em, im not interested in an overall boost of my output sound. Im interested in evening the output signal of my played notes.
20. Lately while watching videos of my band playing, i witness myself lacking in regards to dynamics. Maybe its not that serious for a 3rd person (or maybe it is) but it is for me at least. In order to fix that, much heavier practise is needed (of course) or maybe a compressor that would even my dynamics during the song. Hopefully i got that one right on what compressors could be used for. I used to be against that in the start and 100% pro natural playing, but just in case i needed one what would you suggest? Im using an all tube amp, so i really dont need a compressor that adds warmth, or shapes up my sound. A crystal clear one would be the best, as im totally happy with my sound as it is. I would really be interested in a kinda simple effect unit, that doesnt affect my sound at all (if possible), evens my dynamics (at least the lower ones), and possibly adds a bit of extra sustain. And yeah, not really expensive
21. I was a total noob to the tube world as well. B120 was and still is my main amp/head. Loving the sound and the looks but eventually you gotta think of your back and the headroom. Fortunately for me, im still not THAT old and can still carry heavy stuff (it is is damn heavy), and my band is not that famous to need more than 120 watts. Just some things to keep in mind. Pair it with a really nice cab or in my opinion its a waste of awesomeness. Lots of usefull info here. http://www.soundcitysite.com/sc_webpages/a...escriptions.htm I was lucky and till i got the hang of it i only blew one fuse (0.50euro).
22. Hello. I have this Sound City b-120 head and an ashdown 4x10 mag cab. I also sometimes use a fender bassman 70 (really old, really used and unfortunately never repaired/serviced) cab that's in the rehearsal room. Thing is that, while i really love the tone of the head, i can't really get to always have it with the specific cabs, since they make my tone darker and muddier than i would like to. Most of the times in higher volumes. I think that they kinda color the tone a bit too much for my own taste. Whoever played with those cabs pretty much agreed with me. I want my tone to be warm and clear, with just a bit (or maybe more) of tube grit from the amp, a cab that will take advantage of the tubes 100% and to get everything extra like fuzz etc from my pedals. Do you think i should get a really good cab to fully bring the amp's potential out? Or go hybrid/SS for lots of headroom? Was also thinking about getting the orange terror for the sound im looking for. I play mostly heavy and downtuned rock stuff like stoner/space/doom rock etc. Need advice =)
