1. Part of their T&Cs is that it must be wrapped in cardboard - without it you aren't covered for damage.
2. The item that I/parcel refunded me for late delivery on was my Schroeder cab... and it was clearly described as guitar speaker before submitting the order.
3. I've used Interparcel a few times now too with no problem whatsoever (apart from one time where it was delivered late - they refunded everything in full) but I've always gone for enough compo to cover the items just in case like. But aren't they just the agent? Don't they bump (no pun) the gear onto DHL or whatever? Jobiebass : let us know how you get on. I've always wondered how good the CS would be if you needed to put in a claim.
4. A spot of superglue should sort it right out for ya. If you're referring to the squint arrangement of the ferrule holes I think it is just a quirk of these. There may be some logic behind it (other than just matching the natural angle of the saddles) but I can't really see it being a major influence on anything.
5. Cheers for the info Jon. I thought there might be a Hondo connection there somewhere. It's not obvious from my pic but you could see where the blade had cut almost parallel to the join. Never the less, I'll keep an eye on it in the future just in case it had started by itself.
6.
See where you're coming from Rich, but the problem with those price guides is that they're invariably undated, and they stay on the internet for ever. My Special Subject is vintage Hofners and I can point you at price guides written ... ooh ... three years ago, which fall about laughing at the notion of paying £300 for a 1964 Senator. You'll not find one for less than £500 on eBay these days, and they peaked last summer at nearer £750. If I paid £300 for that 40/40 and found it to be playable right from the box then I'd be perfectly happy, and also very confident of getting my money back at a later date. My biggest concern is the vendor's reference to "restoring" the bass. Does he just mean the finish? Or is he saying the electrics are f*cked, the truss-rod has seized, and that awful nut has been super-glued in place? In fairness, he states quite clearly that the bass is "in full working order".
Point taken. Fill yer boots but good luck keeping that G string on the fretboard.
7. Ah yours appears to be (massive assumption here) an '80s model while mine is a '70s job. T'internet info on them is pretty scarce but I did find this one (1/3 of the way down) through google - sorta half way between our two... Nice pics btw. Gotta love that hefty brass bridge eh?
8. I agree the crazing is fabulous but I'm not so sure that the price is all that low Jack - have a gander here The neck plate pic has me a wee bit scared too.
9.
Hey any updates on the 5 string? Would love to see it sorted 100%
Not really. I keep getting side tracked onto other things. My living-room is like a bloody workshop these days  I dealt with the neck issues (or rather neck pocket issues - aaaaah nobody thought about looking there ) a while back - so that's all good now. I rubbed the dodgy varnish back to bare wood at the same time. some people have since commented on the nice "satin" finish - until I tell them there's no finish at all, it's just bare maple rubbed back with 1500 grade. I love the natural look but I'm constantly humming and hawing about staining it either dark blue or green. I routed and filled the truss rod access groove then veneered the face of the headstock in maple to match the body. I did a TR cover here not long ago and I'm currently procrastinating over a pickguard because I noticed a few fingernail marks appearing from slapping. I've been playing about with paper templates and have settled with something along these lines......... ..... but I'll extend the bottom bit up into lower horn a tad more and I'll take the top hump forward somewhere in line with the 16th fret i think. I've got some nice matt black pg material but I might go with clear if the black is too imposing. I don't know if you knew but I broke the bridge pup (or more correctly my hefty 40w soldering iron did) so currently I have a set of massively powerful Hohner pups in there (courtesy of our own Geoff Byrne's 5er). They are nice but lack that boutique feel that this bass deserves. I lapped them to a shiny finish because of how knackered they were and they look way better than the Barts ever did. I'm thinking about making maple veneers for them too but I know these pups won't be staying in here too long so I might not bother. That's about it really. edit : Oh yeah, I'm considering making it headless too.
10. From the Shergold website...... They are not pretty. They are not "comfort contoured". They are not "ergonomically balanced". They are not light weight. But they are not copies of anything else!
11. Here's a fine example.
12. I used to have one of their 6 strings in the 80s (got it and a Fender P off an old neighbour for about £20 the pair or something stupid). It was called a Modular - the whole control plate lifted straight out so you could slot in a different spec circuit and control set. Mine had a quirky squeaky sound and a neck like a lollystick. I gave it away to a mate in the end when I moved house - spoke to him last week, he still has it but says the thin neck makes it almost unplayable. edit : found a pic of what my Modular was like.
13. Can't see this hanging about for too long. That's a great price for what you get - depending on the de-paint job of course - certainly looks good in the pics. It's actually giving me naughty ideas about my own SUB. Is it a 2 piece slab? I always thought SUBs were made with the same stock of bodies (but uncontoured) as 'rays.
14.
hey rich thanks again for the tonerider jazz pups A+++++
No probs man. Let me know how they work out for ya. I wish I'd had the chance to try them out rather than keep them mint for the next guy.
15. I take it we're talking triple-ply?
16. What he said in every detail but swap "a set of delano pick ups" with "a '51 single coil type" and we're cooking with GAS - qwide liderally. Cheers H. Rich.
17. Thanks very much guys. You've nailed it.
Nice blurring, BTW. Makes me feel nauseous
Yeah, don't know why I did that. I was resizing it in PS and got a bit carried away.
18. It belongs to a mate who has been buggering about with the micro-switches on the active circuit and can't remember how they were set. I have looked in all the obvious places and drawn a blank other than it might be an Edge. It has rather odd wrist contour, a 15mm string spacing and quite a rubbish sound despite having a brand new set of D'Addario nickels on it.... but he loves it.
19.
Oh good, that's two of us on here with an Encore Coaster! Well the body and the bridge look the same. By comparison, mine is immaculate. That could be 'cos it's only been out of the house on 3 occassions. I wonder where that neck came from? I'm not sure that's original. Whatever, once it's all adjusted it gives a surprisingly beefy sound. Enjoy. Balcro
Hey cool. Can you post pics of yours please? Any similarities to the Hondo in this thread? The bridge that was on mine was identical (the same angled ferrule arrangement) so there has to be a connection somewhere. I agree it really does have a superb P sound (if a little thin) - that's why the sprayed pg ended up like that - I couldn't put it down. Unfortunately The next time you see it you won't recognise it. Plans are afoot but I'm keeping schtum for now. :brow:
20. I meant to post this a while back but forgot......
Hi Rich Thanks for bidding on my item. I have left feedback for. Please could you leave feedback for me too? Thanks R**

Feedback left mate. Everything's cool. You've got to tell me though, What's with cutting down the side of the skunk stripe? I plan on completely turning this bass around so a bit more background history on it might be cool for the write up. Cheers Rich

Rich. Not sure what you mean. The laquer is flaking off a bit due to the age of it. If that is what you mean then it was like that when I got it. All part of the natural ageing of it. I liked the bass because it looks well used. The knocks and dings on the body and neck were there when I got it. Hey it was only £38! R**
Yeah right. and here was the "all original" pick guard after noodling about on it for a day. I didn't bother pursuing it any further. It's a pity he didn't just hold his hands up to it and we could have had a good laugh about it together.
21.
If you remove the double http:// from the start of the URL they work...
Yeah I know but he could just fix it so there's no faffing about.
22. Your links don't work mon ami.
