  1. Well, I tried zapping through it; couldn't find anything at all to hold me in. Very much not my 'cup of tea', I'm afraid. To each his/her own, of course.

    Hi

Good evening, Jef, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  3. No more than 90°, or it becomes obtuse. An error that I commonly make, unfortunately.

    Hello

Good evening, Nerstaff , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  5. Quite the opposite; don't practise for six hours a day..! The quickest way is to take it steady. Do a decent stint, then leave it (or practise something else...), then come back to it after a break. Make each session a little longer each week and you'll be up to speed in no time. The fastest way is to do it slowly, in increments. You might try trawling t'web to obtain a big bucket of Patience; that's the key ingredient here. Good luck with it (and there's nowt wrong with chords, or even {gasp..! } music..! being played on a bass..! Yes, even a sixer..! )
  6. A slightly flattering description of me, too..!
  7. Good afternoon, ET, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  8. Here is my contribution to the May 2020 Basschat Composition Challenge, inspired by a picture chosen by the previous winner: BobBass4K..! An ambient track this time, composition inspired by the thought of the fractal nature of the branches and twigs in the photo. A slow build-up, using fractally-generated themes, intertwining in apparently hapless fashion, but all interlinked, combining natural earthiness with algorithmic rigor. Somewhat hypnotic; it kept me up until the early hours refining it. Was it worth it..? Hmm... All instruments are Kontakt (Contra-bassoon, horns, Emotional Piano, archtop guitar, percussion...), excepting the Superior 3 drums (a first, for me...). Very little Fx or mastering 'pixie dust', as the quality of the instruments speak for themselves, I think. Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy.
  9. Good evening, Matt, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  10. As all decent bass players know, 'Watts' are a pretty meaningless measure of much, anyway.
  11. I think that those are 'slo-mo' photos of Entwistle's 'flicking' technique, rather like a flamenco 'rasqueado', where each curled-up finger rolls open, striking the strings as they go. Very percussive, and needing extremely low action.
  12. Never mind all this twaddle; where's your picture..? Bits are being chomped at as we type...
  13. If you win twice more, they'll all get a go. Take a pin and close your eyes to pick the first, and go from there.
  14. Good afternoon, GJW, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  15. Good afternoon, Rob, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  16. And the winner is... BobBass4K..! Here, then, is your Winner's Certificate (download and save as pdf file, then proudly print and frame...) ... BC_Chal_Cert_2020_04.pdf ... which looks like this (but bigger, of course..!)…
  17. Maybe, if there was a picture. Suspense...
  18. T'won't hurt to try, if you've the adaptor on hand, certainly.
  19. A simple plug adaptor won't do the job, unfortunately, as the Zoom input is not pre-amped for a mic. If there's one 'on hand' it's worth a try, but the results are more than likely to be less convincing than a webcam. No, an audio interface with a mic pre-amp is the way to go, if the webcam doesn't cut the mustard.
  20. Your Zoom doesn't have the necessary socket, nor pre-amp, for plugging the mic into, so that's out. If you've any other mic, such as a webcam, you could try that straight into Audacity; it might be good enough for BV..? If not, it's down to the shops onto t'web for an audio interface. Always useful anyway, so not a waste. Hope this helps.
  21. I'd wait for further reaction from folks with better ears than mine, really, but to hear what's going on in the Fx department, I'd plump for isolated bass. It wouldn't change much what I hear in a band situation, though, as, to me, once the carnage revs up, it's all much of a mushness. It's just me; I could never master disto, fuzz, overdrive, whatever on guitar, either. Maybe that's why I'm a drummer..? No, change nothing until others offer their views, but thanks for asking; that's cool.
  22. Well done for shooting the video, with the incrustation and overlaid texts. Completely wasted on me, as I have cloth ears, and 'bass is bass is bass' to me, so the nuances don't come through to my brain. A fine effort, to be commended; I'm sure there's an audience that can appreciate these subtleties, but it's not for me. Disclaimer: I'm not a 'shouty-metal' fan either, but that's not your fault. Thanks for sharing.
  23. Good evening, BB, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
