1. Original bass...tort plate is there only so Fender could verify bass in order to get replacement decals. It actually has a matt black scratch plate
2. So I bought a black mim Jazz deluxe off a nice guy on here and gigged it extensively last year and this. Now I have a short window I thought I would upgrade the bridge, as the E saddle keeps on dropping..even during gigs, and the tuning pegs rattle so time for some new ones. The biggest change is the colour. I have always wanted a candy tangerine bass so thought I would go for it. I have spray gear for work so that was a good start. So a load of reaseach later I plumped for House of Kolor Orion silver base coat with a candy tangerine over the top. I panicked a bit reading all the forum boards about how difficult it is to shoot candy colours but I found it a great medium to work with rather than my usual oil based stuff that I use for work. I am making another Matt black scratch plate as the one I already had is not the best fit despite being an exact replica of the original tortoise shell one. I have sanded back the neck to remove some previous gig damage and now need to tint laquor it before applying replacement decals and top coating. Its as smooth as a baby's.... The new bridge allows for string through or standard stringing and cost £15 off EBay. The Chrome is bright but I have modded the body to take the string through ferrules and the price in no way reflects the quality of this bridge. The sound is ever so slightly fuller than stock and the machining of screw holes was absolutely spot on. The intonation was smack on for my last gig as well. I can highly recommend it..especially if you fancy a string through configuration. I will post photos below...hope you like it. I should say this isn't being done as a show stopper as this is my gigging bass, I am using this one as a trial to mainly try out some new techniques so if I can find a prop per US deluxe I won't be frightened doing a real first class job on it..
3.
Some videos of me playing. An arrangement we did for an N-Dubz track and some videos of my band The Neutronics
The N dubz vid is the first youtube vid I have watched from start to finish in years..simply superb..reminds me a bit of the first time I heard Tony Hall slapping away on The Neville brothers live album...Live on planet earth...I think..and how much would any bass player love to jam with the drummer...sssssssssnappy! Thanks
4. The reasons were two fold. Firstly...when I shuffle off this mortal coil and my daughter wants to sell the bass I figured that if it still had the original serial number and photos of the bass as provenance then the buyer would know what he is getting and my daughter would sell for a fair price to reflect the original quality of the bass....ie as a stock item supposedly not as valuable as a US one. Secondly I am changing the tuners, bridge, colour and the pick ups are currently Bartolini....I am also adapting the bass so it can run string thru as well as back of bridge...so to all intense purposes is would look more like an adapted US bass not a Mexican, which tallied with a Mexican serial number would also raise more doubts. I thought if I had my own serial number printed it would show that I made the alterations and that the bass is unique to me....in case of theft etc...I happen to prefer the look of the raised spaghetti metal look decal and if I can't find one I will replace with the originals that Fender are going to send me. I have spoken to Fender and they are happy to authenticate the bass and send me a set of original front decals but they don't do a replacement serial transfer..and it will get damaged in the re finish....so I will have to get one made either way. I just thought it would be a nice conversation piece if it had my own serial number but I still had the original with the bass so as to hold some value... This could very possibly be a case of me over thinking things as usual..hahahaha I just have an Idea in my head of how I want the bass to look.
5. I am about to upgrade my mim jazz deluxe to USA spec and better....string thru..new better bridge and machine heads..new paint and scratch plate. I have to some refinishing to do to the head stock..nasty ding and the tuner screw holes need filling and resanding...as there is more than a chance the decal will.go I thought I would upgrade to the spaghetti raised metal version on the USA deluxe version..as IMO its really cool. I have found plenty of websites that do all the standard replacement decals for the deluxe jazz but not the metal ones as yet. Anyone got any info as to where I can get some? I know that re decalling your fender draws a lot of mixed opinions..but it is not going to be sold and I am going to make sure the serial number for the bass gets retained on the bass, probably on the back side of the scratchplate...to prove its roots, as I am going to have a new serial number made up that doesn't work with Fenders serial codes, as it is going to be a sort of replica/signature bass mash up...that way I won't be able to pass it off as something it isn't.. Any help gratefully received... Cheers
6. Fingers crossed then!
7.
I have a MIDI Mouse, but I'm not sure that it still works. You're welcome to give that a go if you like ... I'll have to see if I can (1) find it, and (2) it works.
Top man..let me know how you get on finding it. I have been chatting to Dood and though his pedal is great VFM I think it will be physically too big for live use with all the other pedals I have on the floor..MIdi mouse is about where I find myself so if you do find it drop me a line.
8.
Did my first ever attempt at a video today. Was a ball ache trying to sync it, but it didnt turn out half as bad as I expected!
1. I want your bass! 2. Don't know the song but like it...very Incubus....what is it? Nice playing btw Cheers man
9. No problem...The resin board is actually a new form of blackboard on the market..I think it is 6mm thick..I needed exactly 2 bits per side to pack it to exactly the right width..I am in the workshop tomorrow so I'll measure the thickness....just one thing..watch the length of the self tapping screws...you have to be a bit careful...take a good look at where you can drill first..It is fairly obvious as the whole of the inside of the unit is accessible once out of its box.
10. Yes it is a non rack version....I took the unit out of it's housing..(obviously...lol) A guy on here very kindly sent me 2 standard "L" brackets that fit the rack holes...I had to make some packers ( some resin board I use at work ) to take up the slack between the brackets and the amp. Then there is a lip that runs round the amp so I (very carefully) drilled through the lot and used self tapping screws to attach the brackets to the amp. It sounds complicated but actually it was pretty straight forward. It is really strong...the amp is surprisingly light without its box and all the heavy stuff is all sited towards the front panel so there isn't that much of a cantilever effect. It is easy take out and I can remove the brackets and put it back in its original housing whenever I want. Also when I take it for servicing it is already exposed! I will take a couple of pictures and put them up on here for you if you like?
11. I have a line 6 filter pro rackmount....Is there a simple midi foot controller that can either toggle up and down and mute /engage on the market for less than £100? I don't want fancy LEDS..or 10foot switches.. just three switches on a simple strong box. I will probably only use 5-6 patches live so it just needs to toggle up and down and switch on and off. Surely there must be something around for about £50?? or am I off the mark here? Anyone got any ides or am I stuck saving for a midi mouse? Oh and why are midi controllers so much money? Cheers all any help gratefully received...
12.
I'll be honest here... I've considered building a rack setup purely because they look cool! I decided against it because I prefer having everything at my feet, and I like how my amp head fits into the little laptop slot at the back of my rucksack
I agree..this is at my feet...I know there is a pedalboard thread, I wont show this again. 13. I had no intention of sticking this on youtube because of all the mistakes. I had just got my new Galaxy Note..snuck off from work, fired up my peavey 2112 guitar amp and plugged in the bass. Played along and recorded it. mate saw it and said you ought to shove that up...people will appreciate all the cock ups! You can see I noodle in the middle after the main cock up as........enough of the excuses.....I can almost nail this properly.....................honest... 14. my rack is slowly filling up..2 x DBS 7400 heads, 1 no abm 300 evo 2, behringer tuner with downlight, sennheiser iem set up, filter pro coming this week and searching for a tc electronics g major or a good delay rackmount...1 2u drawer unit houses mics and iem receivers.
15. Sorry,...sorry..been away...Yes I think he is looking for €700...Give him a ring or drop him an email...He's English living in France so language isn't a problem. Sorry about the link..it is the one in the Fabinosto post.....thought I had checked the link will edit... link should be working now...
16. Hi A friend of mine is selling this...currently living in France but does travel to and fro occasionally...if your interested drop him a line; http://www.leboncoin...741.htm?ca=11_s Price €700
17. I genuinely think that with money the way it is for most people they just reached an unattainable and frankly stupid level. £300 max is all I would ever spend on one..be happier in the £200's though...maybe one day..!
18. Cost alone would be the defining factor for me...I only need the DI for about 4 songs in our set so just isn't worth the investment. There are plenty of ways around it for us. Would like one, one day...
19.
Took delivery of mine yesterday and on the back of first tinkerings I would 100% agree with your comment. I have also just shifted on a Mark Bass Super Synth so feel in a pretty good position to comment on both pedals!
Let me know what you think to the Super Synth. I was intrigued by the youtube vid that showed how much stuff you can edit on your computer. Is it possible to get sounds similar to the Deep impact on it?
20.
I had the 1510x for quite some time until I sold it on here when I upgraded to Ampeg. Super clear sound from these bad boys - not the easiest to move about, but really quality gear and built like a tank! You're the first person ive seen own one other than me, so free bump!
I've never seen another....great cab but I am full on Marshall DBS now and need to start slimming down on stuff..Thanks for the bump
21. While your there do you make guitars..if so do you use Nitro Cellulose laquor on your guitars or 2 pack..I am changing my black base to candy tangerine...I have 2 pack in the workshop but was told you should only use NC on guitars( which I believe is the old ready for use laquor}....my normal spraying is on joinery rather than guitars so would love your take on the difference...It will be House of Kolor paint if it makes any difference. Cheers
22. Good suggestion.. I do have some loctite somewhere. Is this a common problem with jazz bridges? I have an old bridge off a precision on one of my other basses and it hasn't moved since 1980!
23. The E saddle on my MIM jazz bridge keeps dropping during gigs...threads seem ok but i keeps doing it. Anyway I am going for a body colour change and I am going to change the bridge/tuners (the tuners suck and flap about terribly when not under tension, Fender must have had a real problem with production quality when this MIM was made) to give it a new lease of life. I am happy with the tone and sustain on the bass but thought I would go for a bridge with through bass and straight stringing options. I wondered if anyone had any dealings with these http://www.ebay.co.u...#ht_4861wt_1344 Or suggestions would be great. Cheers all
