The unprofessional part of all of this is expecting a band to turn up on a separate day to soundcheck against a sound meter because you aren't on the 'approved list' - whatever that is. In all my decades of playing in function bands, I never heard such utter tosh. As previously stated, your contract is with the bride. Tell her the sound check cannot happen and she then either has to sort it out or lose you. Her problem, not yours.

I agree with @hiram.k.hackenbacker here completely.

We’ve had gigs in the past where the venue has stipulated their regulations on us pre event and post agreeing with bride/groom, one venue insisted we set up before 11am and then leave until we play at 9!! That didn’t happen as they wouldn’t guarantee the safety of our gear 🤷🏻‍♂️
Your contract is with the bride, the venue has moved the goal posts,  she should be involved in sorting this.

We had a party several years ago with a sound limiter and the crowd tripped it singing along. It does happen.

    Good luck sorting it.

I have - and nothing on the horizon.

A pickguard for the sabre I ordered in December arrives tomorrow.

And a yamaha bb tuner/machine head.

does that mean I’m still in - it’s to keep the bass functioning…

Still in. I saw the snapped one… 👍🏻

It's at the end of the signal chain and not affecting the tone any more than putting the output of my pedal board into a "proper" mixing desk. And getting a new mixing desk certainly wouldn't be considered to be "bass gear", would it?

Are you running your bass through it on your board?

    new mixing desk is ok.

Well if that's really an exam question, then I'll critically say: where is the link between "will power" and "happiness"? Where is the empirical evidence for this hypothesized relationship?

Well, I guess now you know why I wasn't popular in school (or university or work) 🙂

That was question 2 on the exam paper

If I get a Boss LS2 to replace my replacement one sent back, but use it as a little mixer to blend in a mic and not as a line selector, I'm assuming that's ok as it's not being used as 'bass gear'?

I’ll leave that to your conscience to decide …

or what if I say that I did not know that I bought a bass?

or that I did not know that it was a bass?

or that I did not know that buying a bass was against the rules of the gear abstinence club?

I clearly got ambushed with a bass. Not my fault 😎

Guess what the answer to each of those might be 🤔

Despite having a new bass on the way i'm still in. The reasoning is , the Mrs bought it for my upcoming birthday. This gives me 3 excuses. 1 - she bought it. 2 - its out of stock for a couple of weeks which takes us into February anyway. 3 - my birthday isn't til next month anyway.

By my reckoning , i'm still in this

I think you are to 👍🏻

  8. I started guitar lessons in my early teens, then got a girlfriend and stopped… picked up a guitar again in 2003 when my neighbour offered to teach me and quickly realised my hands don’t bend like the way others do, he suggested I try his old bass… it worked!  Kind of 😃
