I'm not so sure about the Shure as you know (although one thing I will say, is that they certainly seem to hold their value), and, fess up, have you actually used your FI in anger yet?

Damn! I knew this thread was going to be a distraction from work...

    😁

The Shure is definitely one of my best purchases this year, used at every gig this year.

No. I’ve used the FI live yet, I’ve not had the need but it’s fun at home.

It was great!! But not actually my gig...went up to see 24 Karat @bassfan's band playing a pub gig near Colchester, with a fellow BC'er, and what a treat! It was lovely to meet his bandmates, whom I've heard a lot about over the past few years, in person - really nice crew.

The set-up was...well err "luxurious" is probably the best description!. The band all go through a meaty PA, including a high-end electric drum kit, with a pair of 15" tops and a pair of subs which delivered a fabulous tight but powerful low-end of club level quality and they had also set up a full lighting rig (which my lot would only roll out for functions rather than pub gigs), and Paul's Berg bass rig, which was pretty much being used as his stage monitor in addition to everyone having in-ears, would put most back-lines to shame. Needless to say the band sounded great. It was also nice to hear a whole different set of covers than my lot play - over a 2 hour set there were at most a couple of 'overlapping' songs. I also loved the way the set flowed - guitarist had all his patches set up on a full-fat Helix floor so could scroll effortlessly through the set with little "dead air time" vs the pedal board tap dancing between songs.

And what topped it all off was rediscovering that you don't need a second mortgage to buy a drink when you're not in Central London!

Mate. You are to kind. It was a great night, great crowd, great little venue and you and @PatrickJ coming all that way to see us was a real bonus. You probably got your burger aswell for the price of a pint in your neck of the woods. 😂 We aim to please glad you had a good night 😃👍🏻

Andy if you really want this - shout and I could potentially collect for you (provided it's not in deepest darkest S London which can be a 3 hour round trip!!) and then drop off with @bassfan on Friday night (I'm going to see his band play and get a decent burger at the same time...). I think you and he are then not too far apart?

We aren’t geographically close but emotionally we are 😂😂😗… anyway. If you can get it to me I can arrange to get to Manchester with my mates end November or sort courier. Whatever is best. 😃

Hmm quite a sweeping statement about the Shuker basses. Well to put my slant on it, I commissioned a Flea / Modulus Inspired build from Jon without ever playing one of his basses. Communication was amazing, workshop visit was really eye opening and the end result far exceeded what I thought I would get, for a damn good price too. In fact it was so good I had another made exactly the same in a different relic finish. His instruments are absolutely beautiful and dead wouldn’t be a word I’d use to describe them.

Maybe you weren’t the right fit for the basses you tried 😉

It’s a fine bass too! Build quailty and sound is amazing. 😃

We don’t do any covers. It only sounds good on a p bass with flats with the sensitivity down and the internal trim pots on minimum. Distortion on. But my P has a super high output. I’ll try and record something with it. Live it just sounds super funky and really stands out of the mix.

Sounds good, and the idea was to get something equally as funky from the supa funk, but just couldn’t? Sorry I’m late to the thread! 😂

Those who know me on Basschat will know my obsession with Chameleon Flip Paint which has been going on for nigh on 20 years 🤣. Here’s a few of my basses.

+1 on that 😃 Love an indigo flip flop.

Quite partial to a sonic blue aswell…  next on my list will be a magenta mist/sparkle….

  7. It’s the age old conundrum… 😂

In my experience no. I have a helix and several other pedals but only use one pedal live and that’s a drop pedal. I do have built in compressor and drive in my amp, but in my band I use no effects at all really. I like the tone I have with the gear I have. I’ve had plenty of discussions about this question with fellow bass players and it’s all down to personal choice.

    Do you need? No

are they fun and do you want? Yes

    Yup.  NS NXTa 5-string.  Black.

My wife had been pestering me into playing an upright at some point, then suggested my birthday.  My mother-in-law is chipping in too.

I've only ever played one on two occasions, 30 years apart.  How hard can it be, eh?  😂

Let me know how you get on. My missus keeps suggesting it to me, like they are exactly the same instruments “they are all basses, and you like jazz”  🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Happy birthday for Dec 1st 🥳

I was always told Live and Dangerous was one of the most over-dubbed live records in history.......

Good to see at least one basschatter likes Shadows and Light

Does anyone know who played Bass on the King Curtis Live album (recommend Soul Stew!)

Great album I’d forgotten about! King Curtis Live at Filmore west, I think the bass player was Jerry jemmott

  10. Prince - one Night Alone (3 discs inc after show party from 21 Nights tour)
Paul Weller - catch a flame

Bob Marley - Babylon by bus

Chic - live at the Budokan

Marvin Gaye - live at Montreux

vulfpeck - live at Madisson square gardens

Marcus Miller - The Ozel Tapes & A night in Monte Carlo

You're right that the official weight of the CN 212 is 46 lbs, but I recall mine being a little heavier - and I suspect they may vary a bit from cab to cab. Good stuff about the personal trainer, Pete!

@bassfan if you get a chance to put yours on the scales, mate, be good to get another 'actual' weight taken.

Remind me Wednesday.  I’m away at the minute. I’ll try and get it on some scales. It’s not overly heavy.

With due respect, the first part of that statement is rubbish isn't it?

Last time I heard it was going everywhere ...to ALL your gigs! 😁

    Technically you are correct. 😂
