Just whacked a new set of Picato double ball end strings on it (£25) and spent over three hours cleaning/feeding the neck. Bought it off ebay a month ago as a 'lost cause' as the jack output didn't work. Haven't tried it with a battery though so this may well be the problem. However, the xlr output is fine. Toggle switch (just the toggle bit... the switch is intact) has broken off but easy to replace with a soldering iron and half a brain. Had a few knocks and the battery compartment needs replacing. Currently held on with duct tape. What batteries do these things take anyway? Apart from that and a few rusted screws it works and plays really well. Ooh yes.... it's very black!! Currently go 2nd hand in reasonable condition for anywhere between £170 - £230. Selling to finance a Bass Pod Pro. Anyone with one, I would consider a straight swap. Pictures to follow.... £150 plus p&p (probably about £10-15) No offers.

BAD NEWS: Drums have been delayed!! GOOD NEWS:Armchairs and fidge full of Magners is in!!!

Apart from one door to hang and a couple of other touch ups the building work is done! However, when the mixer and recording gear gets here I still have to build the workstation. Anyway... completed live room and vocal booth. Note the guitars on the wall already!! (Heh heh!!!)

Demo'd on a Korg D1600. Epiphone Casino into a Korg type wossit guitar effects. Roland TD6 Kit. Sandberg PM4 DI'ed from Markbass TA503. Amp set flat but with a touch scoop on the bass. Vocals through SM58. Due to our studio not being ready yet ( ) we recorded this in 1/2 hour round the drummer's conservatory after a fat greasy breakfast!! Considering the brief time spent on it, I personally think it turned out ok. Essentially recorded live with a couple of overdubs on guitars and vocals. I hit the bass in one take. Love to hear what you guys think.
the missus loves it too - but she says there are other thing it could be used for!!!
But where would I put the music gear once I have the washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board, hoover etc installed? Just a brief update.... very last stages of the build now. Hanging doors and fixings etc. Big clean up tomorrow as the drums will be here pm!! Sofa (black leather.... rarrr!!) and small furniture goes in pm too. Really getting excited now. It has it's own myspace page now too!! Pop over here and add me on. Obviously, it will be developed and added to as things progress. Once I have some songs recorded in there I'll put them up too.

I'd definately advise you to consider other makes... most notably Sandberg. I was an EBMM stalwart through and through. Even owning the Franken'Ray with a Status neck that Dr Nick now has. However, when I tried a Sandberg it was game over. Huge tonal qualities with the PM configuration. Speak to Darren at Bass Merchant and he'll sort you out with a demo / order.
I'm stripping a B2 and will not be using the existing pots/controls. Let me know if you need anything: having said that it is passive, they could be different and as the pickups are dead I have not tested what is the problem yet! Also had a dodgy tuner so replaced it but had to buy 4, have 3 spare tuners and 4 bridges too!
Got any bridges with a drop d tuner?
I had the Hohner B2V. Really couldn't make the preamp work for me at all and so always ended up playing it in passive.
The B2V is a passive instrument. You sure it wasn't a B2AV (A stands for 'active')? BTW, []mailto: this might help with parts etc...
-
In the battery compartment there should be a galvanised 'tin' box which houses the active PCB. If that is missing then its almost certainly been butchered. Should still work in passive mode though. Still searching for some schematics for you.

You can get some Picato double ball end strings from Darren at The Bass Merchant in Colchester. His thread in just below these ones.... send him a PM. Also, judging by the picture, it looks as though the active circuitry has been bypassed.
We ended up having to sleep in the car until the carpark opened again at 6am. And it was bloody freezing.
You know that small silver colour prong? Put that in the small hole on the dashboard and turn it. You get heat too!!!

$80 for two? Just crouch a bit or move foward four foot! $80 saved!!! And for those who seek the benefit of having their head on top of their cab after faffing around with sofa foam cut offs... here's an idea.... put it on it's end beside your cabs. You'll still sound the same and the girls will love you. Tombboy for Chancellor anyone?
I remember hearing his first album & felt like giving up after about a minute of "Donna Lee".
Same here.... I gave up listening and started playing bass how I wanted it to be played! Just doesn't move me but I can appreciate the talent involved to produce such drivel. IMO of course.
Gibson are the only real alternative in terms of "classic image" basses, as theirs have been around nearly as long, and they've got very different designs, but like mentioned, it speaks volumes for Fender's designs that people choose Fender over Gibsons (who, arguably, are in the same position as Fender are with basses when it comes to guitars such as the Les Paul, SG, Flying V and Explorers, plus some of them semi's).
With all due respect.... what a load of tosh... IMO of course! What about Musicman Stingrays (I know, Leo had a hand, but then so did Sterling Ball) or Rickenbackers? Both iconic to a certain extent and superb quality both in build and sound. As for the guitar comparison and Gibson's 'lead' as such... The 'Strat' and the 'Tele' may have something to say about that. Apart from that Buzz, I agree with you entirely!

That butterscotsch Bongo is the mutt's....... as is the SR5 with the Status neck................... *drool*

The name was set in stone from the beginning............. "Jim's" My (late) Father was a huge influence on everything musically that I have ever done. He gave everything for my life so this is the only (humble) way I can pay him back for that at the moment. TBH, I couldn't even envisage another name now.

The mixing room, which used to look like this.............. Now looks like this...... Just some slight touching up to do on the black paintwork and the skirting to put in now the floor is down. Front and rear walls and ceiling have had the same treament as the vocal booth, ie: carpet tiles. I won't have room to fit in front bass traps due to two columns of rack units either side of the mixer, but the walls will be jammed with absorbers. Roland TD-20 Module has arrived... just waiting on the kit now.

First off... I fried a vintage Vox AC30!!! (sharing it with my guitar playing brother! Oops!!) Then some 'no-name' crappy lump... Then a Carlsbro Stingray head through a 2x12 cab. Traynor combo.... sounded pretty good IIRC Trace Elliot GP7 1x15 150w combo... Trace Elliot GP7 300 SMC head, 4x10 & 1x15 cabs Ampeg SVT II pro with 810 cab Ampeg BA115AV for practice Markbass LM450 with 102p and151 HR cabs..... Then traded the head for my TA503.

Just finished a recording session (last before my studio is up and running) and I think I've absolutely NAILED my recording tone. Sandberg PM4 dialled a tad to the P-pup into a Markbass TA-503. Gain and master at 10-11hrs... same with line out (was DI-ing). All eq fairly flat (very small boost on the VPF). Cup of tea and some choccie digestives!!! Sounded like heaven... the engineer was scared to touch anything in case he screwed it up. Reckoned it was the best he's ever heard a bass!!!!!!

Started the floor today now that the front door is finally watertight. The colour of the Oak (veneer.... not laminate!!) work really well against the red and black I think. Added all the mantles to the T&G, completed all the edge snagging to the ceilings. Good news is, the drums are on their way from the US (Hart Dynamics mesh pads, bronze 'silent' cymbals and Roland TD-20 module) and should be here after the weekend. Maybe I'll have some gear in place to show you next time. Picking the rest of the gear up from my brother's on 22nd Feb after going to see Mickey Feckin Mouse in Paris.... bloody kids!!
Yes that is how much power you've got, which needs to be taken into account considering the gigantic current draw of all the studio gear!
Not at all! No piece of gear should draw more than 1.5amps on it's own.... unless you have a kettle or hairdryer in the effects chain!
