1. I've been dreaming of looms, snakes and patchbays lately!! Bloody things are getting on my boobies!! Anyhow, all wired in rather clumsily but working at least. Had to get another Motu I/O interwossit as the fostex one I had packed in on me. I can now record sixteen digital tracks at once... option of thirty two if I get another interface. Have to get another hard drive bay from Glyph but need to save the pennies for that. I'll make do with my HOOOOOGE 4gig one for now!! The drums sound massive!!!! Attempting a recording session this weekend so I'll throw up the final mix when it's done. Thanks for all the interest in this thread... it's really spurred me on. BTW, the fridge keeps the beer lovely and cold.... cheers!!!
2. I'm very much with you on this. I've owned half a dozen 'Rays during my playing time and each one handled a dream. Superb build quality and playability. I think you have to couple the sound to certain amps to truely get the benefit of the humbucker. Sounded great through my MB rig. The best I owned was the 30th which has just a beast of a bass!! However,, since I discovered Sandberg, I've been converted. The P/M combination is just so versatile. Down to just one 'Ray now and that's a 'keeper (wedding present from the Mrs).
3. One less knob perhaps? And no, I'm not talking about tBBC's ban!!!
4. No problem. I got mine from ebay for about £37 including delivery. Might seem a bit steep but the thing really works!!
5. Many years ago when playing football (goalkeeper) I injured my right thumb quite badly and required an operation. Basically I was able to bend it in a way that it shouldn't bend.... backwards over the joint. This 'reflux' never actually healed and I have carried this condition for about 13 years now. It never really hampered any aspect of my bass playing until the last year or so when I have noticed a 'cramping sensation in the joint and surrounding tissue. The feeling would wear off after a few songs so I thought nothing of it... just increase some warm ups' However, on Saturday we played and after two songs I had lost all feeling in my hand and also had a golf ball sized lump of fluid appear on the back of my hand between my thumb and forefinger. It was agony. Went to see my GP who immediately diagnosed 'Skiers Thumb' which is commonly seen in (guess what?) skiers and goalkeepers. Basically, I have no 'ulnar co-lateral ligament' which attaches the thumb to the joint. He pointed me in the direction of a company called PSB who manufacture a thumb brace specifically for this type of injury. It arrived this morning and I've just completed a solid hour on the bass without even a twinge!! God I wish I'd discovered the brace years ago!! I might have to adjust my style very slightly as I keep inadvertantly playing the 'E' string with the webbing on the strap.
6.
I've not heard you play but you have a great taste in gear!
Nor would you want to mate!
7. Only knowingly seen Nick (D.O.T. briefly (but effortlessly), Chris (Angryman) and Muppet play. Steve is as solid as they come and Chris is VERY melodic. Nick just makes things look so easy!!
8. Ok, The drums eventually arrived after 6 weeks. I've got to say, they are bloody superb quality.... and thats without plugging them in yet!!! Hart really know their stuff when it comes to electronic percussion Going to be doing our first recording session next weekend so watch this space for some tunes when they're ready.....
9. Nice avatar Bullet-Rule. Another trotter here.... any more on here and we'll exceed matchday attendances!!
10. The majority of the songs we play sound better if I use a pick... so I do. A couple of songs sound better if I use my fingers... so I do. It's not rocket science.
11.
all I'm saying is that using your wrong hand for the mouse has its advantages
Oh... I see. Already mentioned then!!
12. How long before the subject of masturbation crops up?
13.
i'll leave the wallet with the missus for the first visit though...
Mad crazy fool! Last time I did that my wife bought a village.
14. I'll be popping in again soon next time I'm down that way. Lovely fella and great service.
15. Found another good site at ku.oc.tahcssab.www !!
16.
Now that looks like a really clever option Not enough time to try one for tomorrow but I didn't even think about a separate battery powered UPS!
How about a separate 'petrol' one? IE, a generator?
17. There are no industry standard settings for these noise limiters. Limiters are a known way of limiting the level of reproduced sound in entertainment venues, etc. and as such they appear in the 'good practice' guidance. But as, in the context of the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, it is for the employer in any particular venue to decide on appropriate means to reduce the noise exposure of employees to as low as reasonably practicable, so it is for the employer to decide whether to use such devices, and how to set them up in practice. In the draft 'good practice' it is noted that limiters which cut the power abruptly are not recommended. I would hope that any venue operators would be happy to discuss the use of limiters with you, and take up your offer of helping to set them up. I will let you in on a little secret which will let you "over ride" any such sound limiter device, for a cost of about £60.00. If you google "APC BE-550 UPS" you will find a small UPS (uninterrupted power supply) which is basically a battery back up for all your equipment. Once fully charged, you plug all your gear into one of its 6x 13a sockets, then plug the UPS into the mains at the gig where the limiter is. The result? You play too loud (or hit the random frequency that knocks the power out), and the UPS takes over for up to about fifteen minutes - plenty of time for the limiter to reset itself and give you the chance to knacker your equipment all over again. Try the following link for a distributor: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....p;...(BE550-UK) All cut & pasted from here.
18. How about that picture of tBBC in the gimp mask?
19.
I would stick a couple of monitors and your keyboard and mouse on that desk to the left.
Exactly what I have done now. The monitor didn't give enough clearance in the middle shelf. Trouble is, I've have a big hole to fill now. Something impressive looking with flashing lights... doesn't have to function!! Or I could have a couple of lava lamps!!!
20.
Tomboy, silly question this, but you're splitting the Top-Middle section so you can put more rackmounts in yeah? And you're going to be screwing the lips of the rackmount items into the front facing parts of the vertical parts of the shelving? Is the wood thick enough to fit 2 lips side by side or are they going to over lap? eg) <-rackUnit1->|wood|<-rackUnit2->, is there enough wood to fit both lips on?
I thought about that prior to designing the cabinet. The top shelf has an 'inner skin' as seen below. And yes, the units will be screwed straight into the (pre-drilled) wood. By the way... it's not all wired in yet. Just offered it all up to take the picture.
21.
hang on, you didn't glue the rack units in did you? Do you mean the actual rack space itself was glued in? Looks great though. What are you gonna put in the middle shelves?
Ha ha!! No.... The units will be screwed in. Imagine this as a noughts and crosses board and I'll explain. Bottom left = Applemac Middle left and right = Mackie active balanced monitors. Top left, middle & right and bottom right = Various rack units such as PSU's, limiters, expanders, reverbs, samplers, patchbays, modelling amps, digital/analog I/O converters etc. (still need to split the top middle into two cases) Centre middle = Mac monitor Centre bottom - Mackie 24.8 desk with meter bridge.
22. I'll be collecting all the studio equipment from Bolton tomorrow, so today I had Terry.. probably the best joiner I have ever seen, round to install the desks and rack cabinets into the mixing room. The man worked miracles with weird angles to get 19 inches on all rack recesses. I've put a couple of rack units in to show his great work. Didn't use one nail or screw... all glued and rebated. Just a bit of finishing off to do. Hopefully it will be completed by the time I get back from up north.
23. I think I'm in love again! Damn this bloody studio.... nicking all my bass tokens!!!
24. Just built my own studio. Smells fresh as a daisy. I'm a smoker. NO ONE is smoking in my studio. The door is two yards away!
25.
tombboy has invited me round to christen this over the weekend. I'll let you know how we get on.
You have a delivery from Eastern Europe. Driver wouldn't stop, something to do about immigration but they're very lovely............. Skirts or belts.... you decide!! And how do I keep the wife happy 'til you get here? Shall I get them on the garden or something? Apparently the wife has a bush she needs trimming................
