1. Some have already referenced, and I agree with at least 3 wraps around each tuning peg post. Wrap ends toward the bottom, so you have more downward pressure on the nut.
2. I'll only buy it if the seller includes the mannequin, outfit and hat.
3. Great find! Sweetwater is great. I ordered a Gibson Les Paul Studio in Fireburst from them 2 years ago. (It was the best price anywhere on a new guitar.) I regularly spend time looking through their basses. I'm especially happy that Sweetwater has become an EBMM dealer. Sweetwater does take actual picture of the instruments. (I just wish they'd take my phone number off their call-list.) The Perfect Bass also takes actual instrument photos, but I have yet to make a purchase through them.
4. My first bass was a blue Vantage Flying V bass. They tend to have a lot of neckdive. I eventually re-accustomed myself to wear my basses high rather than hanging down, which counters most of the neckdive. A strap with a rough leather backing also lets the instrument sort of grip your shirt, allowing it to stay in place.
5. Yamaha makes excellent products and they're built to last. It may be worth your while to see if there are any used TRB 6's near you. One thing that should be noted. The scale is 35" and neck is quite wide. If you're accustomed to an Ibanez-type spacing, you will need some transition time to get used to the instrument. I know it's not always possible, but if it's within your access, try one before buying. As visog posted, keep an eye out for the TRBPJ, the John Patitucci. A fantastic instrument if you can get your hands on it.
6. Awesome! The two will compliment each other quite nicely.
7.
Something pointy like a bc rich warlock or explorer I guess?
I remember reading an interview with Geezer Butler in Bass Player magazine many years ago. He was asked about basses. He mentioned that he tried a bass with a pointy body. During a performance, he was getting into the song. He brought his hand down quickly and hit his thumb the upper horn. His hand went completely numb.
8. I remember Nirvana performance at the MTV VMA's where Krist Novoselic tossed his bass in the air at the end of the song. Maybe the stage lighting made him lose track of it and the bass came down on his head. Found this clip on YouTube. 9. Good point. I should have referred to this item as a loose copy instead of fake.
10. Yes, it's a fake. Those eBay ads have appeared a number of times. I forwarded them to Jens awhile back. He replied quickly that he was already aware the companies were producing fakes. If you've not already viewed it, there's a YouTube video from a recent NAMM show where Jens Ritter posed as a reporter and tried to ask questions of one of the fake-builders. He was quite classy. (I would not have reacted so reserved.)
11. I also own the iStroboSoft by Peterson. High degree of accuracy.
12. Many basses in my GAS list. Presently, the items near the top of my list are: MusicMan Bongo HH 6 Jerzy Drozd Obsession Soul 6 Ibanez Gerald Veasley GVB36 (the budget model) either the Fender Pawn Shop Bass VI or the Squier VM Bass VI Zon Vinny Fretless 6 either a used Fender Steve Bailey Fretless 6 or a Warwick Steve Bailey Artist Series Fretless 6
13. I've been seeing BassMods 7-string basses show up on eBay recently. I'm also looking forward to the review of this instrument.
