  1. I certainly will! Although lockdown/furlough has just about wiped out what little disposable income I had, so could be a while. Never thought of searching for what others had done with the 55-01, although I suspect pickup changes may yield different results due to different woods and construction (although they are made in the same factory!) I had an East preamp in a G&L L2500 I had a number of years ago and was always impressed with the usable tones I could eke out of it.
  2. Sounds like the Splits would be the preferred choice for me! Thanks everyone for all the info. Interested to see if anyone has any experience of any other manufacturers, although from what I have read/heard Nordstrands do tick the boxes.
  3. Wonder what a faux P/J would sound like with a Big Single at the bridge and a Big Split at the neck...
  4. Been doing a bit of reading on the Nordy pickups. General consensus seems to be very favourable. I would probably be more tempted by the Big Splits I think.
  5. Lots of love for Nordstrands it seems! How are the Big Singles for noise when soloing pickups?
  6. As the title suggests! I have a Cort A5 plus, which is lovely to play/look at - however the electronics leave a lot to be desired I feel. It's got Bartolini (licensed - built by Cort in Indonesia) MK1 pickups and preamp stock, which seem to be a bit marmite with people who have used them - I find they sound quite brittle and, for lack of a better word, false in the high frequencies. The lows, although present, sounds quite muddy to my ears - boosting the bass on the preamp just makes this worse. The obvious choice would be the direct replacement USA Bartolini MK5s, but as there seems to be an abundance of pickups manufactured in the P2 size (virtually identical at 108mm x 32mm), I wondered if anyone else has any experience of replacing these pickups, and what you decided on and why?

  9. Hi, Up for sale what was my trusty gigging amp, a Taurus Qube 450. 450W @ 4 ohms, 350W @ 8 ohms. From Polish manufacturer Taurus, these amps are not very often seen but one of the better class D amps I've tried. A quick google search will bring up some great reviews of these. Plenty of punch, analog preamp, and the EQ is really intuitive. I've been in two minds whether to sell this or not, but it's not being used since I stopped gigging a while ago and an impending house move means I'm unfortunately having to get rid of things I don't really want to! Unfortunately I no longer have the original box for this, but will be shipped securely and well packaged. The price is £280 including courier. Some blurb from the Taurus website: Taurus Qube - 450 bass head is the smallest and the lightest bass amplifier in Taurus' amps line. The compact size of the head is attained by applying the newest, most advanced technology. The SMPS (Switching Mode Power Supply) power supply and Class D power amplifier in conjuction with classic analog preamp provide great efficency, power, dynamics and sound selectivity. As all Taurus amps, the Qube - 450 is very easy to operate. The MLO system equalization control achieves easy and intuitive tailored sound. This sound correction simplifies finding the right tone colour of the instrument. MLO System The "MLO" (Mid Level Optimization) is Taurus proprietary system allowing for an easy, intuitive and extremely comfortable optimization of the overall sound of the bass guitar. The MLO System provides all new possibilities. It ensures most accurate proportion of medium frequencies in accordance of your manual settings of bass and trebles. This very intuitive and logical system supports musician's choice for most desirable sound. In addition, the MLO equalizer ensures virtually no change in overall volume while changing the bass frequencies. Unlike most of the standard amps, adjusting bass frequency the musician notices change of the sound not the volume. Power output: 450W RMS / 4ohm , 300W RMS / 8ohm Main Features: analog preamp / PA class-D / SMPS Inputs: passive & active Controls: GAIN control VOLUME control BASS and TREBLE equalizer with "MLO system" (Middle-range Level Optimization). Triple BASS-switch to reduce or boost low frequency [DBS-cut/OFF/DBS-boost] Triple TREBLE-switch to reduce or boost high frequency [CUT/OFF/PRESENCE] PUNCH button - increases sonic expression. 10. Bump - Bit more urgency added for this to go, as it's going to have to be kept at my parents house while me and the Mrs move house in a couple of weeks. £205 takes it (inc postage), won't be dropping the price any further. Thanks
  11. Another long overdue bump - as much as I’d like to keep this, the Mrs insists otherwise! £225 delivered.
  12. NOW SOLD Hi, Bought this on a whim from eBay as I really fancied trying one. Lovely bass, made in Japan I believe somewhere between late ‘80s - early ‘90s. I believe there is a way to check with the serial number, alas I haven’t been able to find it. These retailed for quite a bit IIRC when new, the 2nd hand prices really don’t reflect the quality of these. Really well built instruments. This is a 5 string SB310 range, it has a brass nut with quality Gotoh tuners, all original. In great condition other than a small mark at the back of the headstock (shown in pics). Other than this it’s in great condition, especially for its age. I haven’t done anything to it except play it since I bought it so could probably do with a fresh set of strings of your preference and a set up. Comes with used but perfectly usable hard case. Reason for sale is that it’s just not getting played, don’t think the Mrs is very happy with it being bought and just sat there! Don’t want to make anything on this of course, I bought it for £250 including postage but happy to take £225 posted. EDIT: now £215 posted. Any questions, please ask via PM. Cheers!
  13. Bump - still here. Comes with non Spector but functional hard case also.
  14. Hi, yes I did the pickup work myself. No modifications necessary to the body as the dimensions are exactly the same as the original Hz pickups. The preamp is the older style BQC, I emailed EMG to confirm this is the same as the newer style “quik connect” system, but soldered connections all round. The pickups were brand new and do have the “quik connect” connections - so I used the connectors that came with the pickups instead of the original input wires on the preamp. The idea for this was so if I decided after the pickups were installed I wanted them the other way around, they are much easier to swap also worth mentioning, configuration of knobs is volume/volume with a stacked knob for treble/bass and another for mid cut or boost/sweepable mid frequency. Any other questions let me know! Thanks
  15. Another bump - pretty much Euro spec at a Rebop price!! As stated above unfortunately I could do with the money at the moment, so if no interest this week I’ll list on eBay too after the weekend.
  16. Quick price drop bump for arrival of yet more unexpected expense. Open to offer, no trades thank you. £800
  17. Hi guys, Unfortunately as we all know life gets in the way sometimes and I’m giving up playing for a while. New car acquisition and general family expenses means I’m (reluctantly) selling my last remaining bass, as could really do with the cash at the moment! 2013ish Spector Rebop DLX 5 string in cherry red. I took out the rather bland passive EMG Hz pickups and replaced them with an active EMG 40DC in the bridge position, and an active EMG 40CS in the neck. I’ve also replaced the original tone pump pre with an EMG BQC system wired at 18v. The original pot covers were a little plasticky looking, so I replaced those as well with some rather fetching black metal ones. All in all I’ve spent around £230 in upgrades I think, well worth the money in my opinion - sounds fantastic. In great condition, neck plays like a dream. I’ll be sorry to see it go, but she’s too nice an instrument to be sat in a case unplayed. Can pick up in person if you’d like a cup of tea and a play - only have access to my little practice amp at home though. Alternatively I’d be willing to meet you halfway within reason. There’s also the option of a courier - this isn’t included in the price above. Having camera issues momentarily! But pics to follow shortly. Thanks for looking! [UPDATE] My camera is not working so phone pics will have to do for now I’m afraid. If you’d like any more, PM me and I will send you some. Thanks!
  18. Yeah had a look on there but doesn't seem to be on there. Or certainly doesn't appear so to someone with my limited experience in electronics
  19. Recently acquired an old EMG BQA (from what I can gather from the board) internal preamp, but got no clue where to start wiring it! I foolishly assumed it would be similar to the new BQC as its functionality is the same (vol/blend/stacked bass + treble/stacked sweepable mid) but now I've got it in front of me I can't make heads or tails of it. Any wiring diagrams out there? Have googled extensively and come up with diddly squat. Hope someone can help!
