1. immaturely i just wanted to find something i could rock out on and wasnt too hard to play my dad gave me a really old beat up bass it didnt have a name on it so i gave it a go i used to listen to a lot of punk and my favourite bands were root note warriors so i picked it up really easy and could play the entire ''smash'' album by the offspring in no time! for a long time of being in punk bands and not really caring about my instrument just rocking out i began to become bored and wanted to get more out it, so i learned some theory and technique (radically changed the way i played) and then i began to just enjoy playing regardless of being in a band or not i love my bass
 2.
Why not buy a blend pedal? They seem like useful things to have in terms of bass effects generally, plus you can use any distortion you like with the option of blending it for bass. Edit: - And a bass player with some great distortion sounds IMO is Caleb from Cave In. I believe he uses a Rat and a Fulltone Fulldrive which are both primarily guitar pedals.
+1 great bass player
I'm not remotely religious, but I see this as no different to Fishing Bassists, Cross-stitching Bassists, Poodle-Fancying Bassists. As long as no-one tries to force cross-stitch on me, everyone is free to do as they wish. And - what a nice, challenging, but respectful thread.
you sure i cant tempt you... 13.
This is an honest, questioning post, NOT trolling. Why does there seem to be a need for being a "Christian ......." (insert whatever here). I have recently seen a "Christian Motorbike Club" (out on a Sunday BTW), and this morning pulled up in a car park next to a car plastered in Christian stickers, including "Christian Surfers". Now we have "Christian Bass Players". There doesn't seem to be the need for atheist, Jewish or Muslim versions of these groups, why the need to create this segregation?
i think my point was more of a ''i play bass at church on a sunday and we play a particular style so i was just wondering if there were any people who play similar stuff to me'' kind of thing! it wasnt to create segregation, i suppose its similar to having a ''jazz bass players'' or ''punk bass players'' section i suppose its more of a genre than anything you get me?
 14. Stuart Braithwaite (mogwai) - Guitar Munaf Rayani (explosions in the sky) - Guitar Ben Bridwell (band of horses) - Vocals Aaron Harris (isis) - Drums Justing Broadrick (jesus/final) - Keys/guitar i think that would be a hilarious line up actually, william shatner on vocals
 15.
I'd never go near a church but it does interest me as to the way you do a church gig, it seems like there is A LOT of audience participation, does that put you off?
by that do you mean people singing along etc? it doesnt bother me at all, for me there is a bit more pressure because youre following the band leader but it makes you a heck of a lot better on your instrument because you have to get to a stage where you dont need to think so much about what you are playing and concentrate on where the band leader wants to be! did that make sense?

 19.
I'm very much in the same mind as skol303 on this and as an atheist have often been really moved by gospel and spiritual music. A few years ago we went with a friend to the Glide mission church in San Francisco's tenderloin district, it was Christmas, and the most uplifting and enjoyable religious service I've ever attended. This was largely due to the lovely warm welcoming congregation but also the stupendously good choir and band filling this huge auditorium of a church with joyous sound. I've seen a few clips on here of very cool funky gospel bass players in the USA but although the words don't always strike a chord with my personal beliefs, the love, and soul evident in a lot of this type of music certainly dusts my broom. Why not post some clips on here chaps ? Edit: Funny enough just saw this : http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=77094&hl=
i poseted one futrher up not the best quality but you get the idea heres some of the song that we are doing at the moment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAmGWjrTWds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gdt0CYfjmM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-bUZj1bkoE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8u3h0qjcIU last one has a fun bassline to play
