I have a BP80 which I have used - it's got a lot of different units. But the presets that come with it are IMO just trying to show off the unit. So I have started to tweak them to something that suits my purpose. The thing I don;t like is the bypass mode - sometimes rather than actually pressing both switches at the same time I'm a bit off and find that I've just changed the FX to another setting - which can be at best inconvenient and a din at worst. I have it also as a DI/Amp modeller in case my rig goes awry - I could go straight into the PA with it. I have just got a Source Audio Bass Envelope Filter - which has a pukka switch - and adds some sounds that the BP80 doesn't have. When I have the money then I would gradually replace the BP80 with a) Chorus Distortion c) Reverb/Delay d) Octave - probably in that sequence. And at present I fancy the TC Electronic Corona, the Source Audio Bass Multiwave Distortion Pro but not sure about the others. But for the time being the BP80 can do that. In the study/woodshed I am spoiled by mainly using Ampltiube SVX or Pod Farm and Presonus FireBox interface to the laptop where there are lots of things to twiddle about.

Bloody Hell, this looks interesting! Line 6 StageScape

I like the look of it, and wonder if this is a bit like GarageBand for Sound engineering? At least you can get behind the "easy set up" and really tweak things. I will wait for the sound engineers to wonder where their expertise is going and when they'll get the next job. Also have you see the new Mackie DL1608 which uses a iPad as the control surface? -
I am a subscriber and I am also wondering what has happened. Surely some communication even it is "we are having some difficulties please bear with us". Nevermind something to say either stick with it and we'll add something to thank you for your patience or we'll return your money, etc.

Thanks for that link. I saw Jack last year in Kendal. Top man.

PA advice - what should I know before buying a PA?
vsmith1 replied to magee's topic in Accessories and Misc
There is major thing that you need to consider: foldback monitors for the vocalists. These can be stage wedges or other speakers used as floor monitors or side fills. But vocalists will struggle if they cannot hear themselves. I also agree about getting good mics, don't forget mic stands and my oh my lots of cables! -
Having the same problem , did you do anything your end to sort it ? Subscribed on sunday and still no joy .
Yes they did sort me out. Get a email direct to Nick and he will sort it.

I also enjoyed the interview with Yolanda and Marcus was really good. Nice to have some of the Bass Day excerpts in it as well.

You can get it for rental from Lovefilm: http://www.lovefilm.com/film/Victor-Wooten-Groove-Workshop/156831/ I did and it was a great watch and listen. This is only useful if you are already a member but there maybe free trials going about.

Stupidly Easy Tunes Which Are An Absolute Pleasure To Play
vsmith1 replied to Hot Tub's topic in General Discussion
My favourites that are simple (from my perspective) include:

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol - when our band play it I get goosebumps
Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top
Stupid Girl by Garbage - single bass riff - even I can play it
-
Just looked on EBay & it's selling for £40 for a paperback! Maybe it's out of print?
+1 My Bass and Other Animals I got mine via the public library - 50p book reservation. But also you can get it on Audible - where Guy himself reads the book. That is much easier - and you can listen away. Also +1 The Music Lesson -
Sorry to hear that you're having trouble viewing the issue.. can you forward the details to me at ? And I'll chase up the support team.
Thanks Nick for sorting my access issues out. Looking forward to issue 2.

I am having problems with the mag - I have sent an email to the support team. At the moment I can only get the first 5 pages. I have previously been able to get the lot.

It was my first time at BassDayUK. I came down by train as it was cheaper than driving and parking. I had few expectations - my main reason for attending was to see and hear Marcus Miller. I was not there for trade stands - especially as the main stand was my very good, helpful local music store in Morecambe of Promenade Music. It was good to have a quick chat with Dave and Gary from Promenade. I also say a quick hello to Chris May of Overwater, and then it turns out that Paul Everson is just down the road from where i live. Anyway, I arrived just before Jah Wobble was on stage. He was great and a real laugh with it all. Very encouraging and stimulating. I was smirking about him saying how great Ashdown kit was and then it broke down during his demo. But Marcus Miller is the main man, and was fantastic - and a big credit to Pat on drums. I had to leave to get trains straight after, but a great event from my perspective. A big thank you from me to all the organisers, helpers, performers, trade stands, sound engineering, bar staff to make the event a success.

Just bought my ticket - my first ever Bass Day. I could not pass up the opportunity to see and hear Marcus Miller.

I saw Steve Hillage on the Fish Rising tour at Uni in the late 70's. I still have that album on vinyl. Also have Camembert Electrique - which my wife hates, I also love the more Jazz-influenced Pierre Moerlin's Gong. I have a couple of copied albums of which I can identify one as Gasuese but the other I cannot find on Spotify or Grooveshark. As I remember, Steve was also involved in a ambient electronic group(?) called System 7. Not sure when.

Another one: I bought myself a Brother tape label printing machine - I put my name on my (bigger) stuff, but on PSUs (Wall-warts) I put a label telling me what it is used with; there are so many and often not even made by the maker of the device they power, that it is not easy to remember what goes with which. Not convinced that my name label would deter any light-fingered oik, but helps me get my stuff from my bandmates.

Leads and sockets: to help my mainly ignorant band members help with the PA set up, I got some little coloured stickers - the sort from office suppliers - stuck the colours on the plus and sockets then it is largely saying red to red, etc. Thankfully you cannot plug a jack into an XLR and vice versa. Also I use velcro cable ties in various colours to signify which leads are mine and then to tie them up. Now I only have to teach them about coiling leads!

There are a few options available at CPC: http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/productcompare.jsp?N=411+2005+208280&No=300&Ntk=gensearch&Ntt=3.5mm+jack&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&isGoback=false&originalQueryURL= I got 8 cable sets from £1.23 to £7.11 (ex-VAT).
Sounds like brilliant service! I have total confidence in my bass now. I think this one will stay with me until my arms fall off. Out of interest, was it just the D string that had the pickup problem or was yours much quieter overall? My bridge pickup is really really quiet and I'm not sure if it's just because they usually are quieter or whether it's too quiet and it needs adjusting. I may just raise the pickup height to see if that helps. I have a preference for the bridge pickup sound you see but the overall volume drops quite a bit when I pan over to the bridge. It could be just normal but if I can boost it a little, I'd be very happy.
It just the D string that was noticeably quieter than the other 3 strings on that pickup. Compared to the other pickup (the PJ near the neck) then yes it is a little quiter - but the sound is very different. I love the honky sound of the bridge pickup, though the neck pickup is more rounded. I'm still playing about with the pickup blend to find some nice sounds rather than the extremes of just one pickup over the other.

Well the day dawned sunny (refreshing change) and I powered up the M6 to meet up with Chris and team at Overwater in Carlisle. I must say I was very welcome, and Chris sorted out the problem by replacing the pickup. He also sorted out a couple of other little things on my Classic J, and I came away thinking that I have a custom Classic J with an Overwater Jazz pickup. The price was outstanding. Chris also reconfigured my pickup blend control. So I'm very very happy. I've just been trying it out tonight - it's like it's new again. I cannot praise enough the welcome, care, and help given by all at Overwater.

Dumb question - or to stop me from being dumb
vsmith1 replied to vsmith1's topic in General Discussion
Brilliant - thanks so much. That's this sorted, just everything else to go. -
I bow in advance to the wisdom here on basschat. How do you pronounce Hartke?

Hart-kuh
Hart-kee
Could be silent t?
Something else?
Please note that I'm British so it's zed not zee. As I've just got a HA3500 - I'd like to get it right. It'll save me from egg on face at a later date.

Custom strap maker recommendations please.
vsmith1 replied to Soliloquy's topic in Accessories and Misc
I can second Minotaur. I found it recommended on basschat. Ordered and received - great strap. Nice and wide, padded and plenty of adjustments. Lots of styles. -
People that write "segway" on set lists.
Maybe they think you're coming to move around the stage like Peter Gabriel does on a Segway.
