2. With all this talk of SX basses, we should maybe think about a group buy from Kurt (Rondo)...I mentioned this to him before and this was his reply: 'Yes I am happy to do a group buy - but honestly don't have time to arrange it. The basses come in boxes of 6 (guitars as well) - weight for 6 is about 55 lbs' Read into that what you will...
 3.
And I say 'go for it!"
Me too - but I don't like the standard tuners - Hipshots rule!! I've recently compared standard jazzes with and without a Gotoh bridge and found very little difference, maybe slightly more sustain, but the difference is not blatantly obvious. But for £20, I'd still change the bridge TBH the fretboard made more of a difference soundwise... The standard pickups on the 4s are fantastic - loads of balls (when swapping from my SX to my Fender P, I was always thinking I must have turned the volume down!!)
 4.
What is the point of all this mucking around with cheap basses. I'm sure you end up spending more than if you just bought proper basses like your Jap Fender.
mmmm, let me think about that. Jap Fender £480 ish, Wizard Thumper £50, Jazz Neck £160 (from US), Hipshots £60 (from US), DR Sunbeams £25 (from US) = £775 (- old P neck which I sold for £120) = £655 SX Jazz £120, second jazz bass £40 (assembling old parts and possibly getting £80 for the spare parts), Hipshots £60, DR Sunbeams £25 (from US) = £245/£295 if I get an equivalent pickup (not needed, SX pickups are so hot)... Spoken by someone who's never played a decent SX FWIW I had £1k to spend on a bass, looked at getting a Lakland DJ 4 (in LPB...very sexy!!) but didn't like the neck. After playing loads of basses, the only necks that I really fit with are Jap Jazzes and SX Jazzes - I'm sure there are loads of others, but wanted a cheap knacker bass for work (the SX) Oh and I like to modify things to make them my own - Sky+ box has a 500GB hard drive, car is running 320lb/ft torque due to ermm a few tweaks, built a PC jukebox etc etc just like to play Oh and with the money I've saved, I've bought an SX fretless, OLP 5 string Levin (on order...), 3 sets of strings and a set of fender knobs oh and a posh sensor tumble drier for 'er indoors AND STILL enough cash to put towards a new amp
 5.
IMO the weak points on an SX are the frets, tuners and the pots... of course due to the nature of their production the quality of the finished product fluctuates, so you might have a really nice bass there. I would say without pics it is worth about £50-100, which model is it?
Ermmm that's the point!! 57 Body, 62 neck. The only difference appears to be neck shape/fretboard and body colour. Anyways, turns out I'm going to have to redrill the holes in the neck to make up my 'nice' SX, meaning that I'll probably sell the other body and neck seperate...
 6.
*Crosses fingers* Please tell me its a 5 string.
4 string...sorry
 7.
ah, right ! many thanks for the link and the help. I think that probably the size and weight may swing it for me, plus you dont get to carry Cds about. i tend to lose them! Cheers Matt
I've had the CD BT1Mk2 and now own the MP3 version. The MP3 version is far superior effects wise, only downside is the fiddly on off switch (or I might just have a dud). The inbuilt battery lasts a lot longer than AA batteries in the CD version too.
 8.
Anyone else heard one of the new Sky menus tunes? It's a pretty damn funky slap bass riff. i really like it, not too showy and nice deep tone. what does everybody else think of it? anyone know who dunnit?
Mine are turned off in settings!! Think I'll have a listen...
 9. Appologies if you all know this (it's been hinted at on Basschat), apparently last batch of OLPs coming into the country in 3-4 weeks then that's it. Something to do with the shape licence not being renewed by OLP Got a Tony Levin on order (was umming and ahhing about one for a few weeks!!) Anyone got any more insider gossip about why??
 10.
Nah, don't worry about it - my CDR's just collect dust and I'm sticking them in the post at work!
Cheers, much appreciated
 11. Just had a couple of SXs delivered from the US, and one of the boxes was opened by customs...worth thinking about before under delcaring an item (I was considering doing this with a Lakland).
 12. I've just bought a Blue SX Jazz from Rondo, but don't like the neck (too deep). So i'm thinking of changing the neck on my vintage white (butter coloured!!) SX Jazz. Only problem is that the Blue Jazz has a blue headstock. So butter coloured bass with a blue headstock How much is it worth? Would anyone buy it as an SX tryout? It's in good condition apart from that (the control plate is missing a screw and will need redoing - think it was drilled at an angle and pokes through into the control cavity!!) Sounds a lot worse than it is. Also got an EMG Select at the bridge. Obviously the neck is brand new (ie unwrapped about an hour ago!!) Any thoughts? SWMBO has set my guitar limit at 5, and this bass makes 6!!
 13.
Right, they're copied but just on blank CD's with no printing. However, I've scanned in the CD cover as a pdf should anyone wish to print it out.
Shall we PP you something for your effort/media?
 14. Still for sale - this has to go £100 delivered or will swap/part ex for bass gear
 15.
Try this iste, they'll do a custom pick guard for you.
Couldn't I fit a four string version with a seperate control plate?
 16. Just wondered what the routing was like under the scratchplate, as the pickguard is ugly as sin It's the only thing putting me off...
 17. Cheers guys. It puzzles me that the mods decided to move this thread - while it contains an ebay link, I wanted knowledge as to the validity of buying it, not to point it out as a good buy
 18.
I think he means you might not receive it at all.. let alone get it in bad condition. But it does look genuine.
Good point
 19.
I've just noticed - Location Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia, postage $85 (plus insurance). I'd pass whether its genuine or not.
Why?? I suppose its a risk in case the cracks are into the wood, but if they are only through to the finish, then even at £100 it has to be worth it, right??
 20.
Marky -I've got a perfect condition MM3 you can have for £100 if you can pick it up from Milton Keynes - it's a natural elm one - looks and sounds great!
Is that a flame natural? If it is and OP doesn't want it, then I'll have it (want the flame top )
 21. Just seen this on ebay, and wondered if its a cheapo copy: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MUSICMAN-Stingray-5-...1QQcmdZViewItem What do you think?
 22.
I've just bought a Superfly and went for a Yamaha BBT210-S 2x10 cab. This is 4 ohm, rated at 250 watts RMS, and only weighs 21kg. However, it's a discontinued model. I bought mine ex-dem from Rose Morris and I think they still have another one in stock..... Hope this helps
Ohhhh if only I'd sold my Strat I'd have had one of those
 23.
Mine works fine with a single 1x10, but my single 1x10 has 106dB sensitivity. As far as conventional cabs go I'd be looking at a pair of 4 ohm 2x10s with neo drivers. Leave one at home when you don't need it. Can't say about the specific Ashdowns.
Problem is finding 2x10s @ 4 Ohms... I know Markbass do one for £400. Any others?
 24. ...Just wondered what they are like... Thinking in the not too distant future of starting a band, and would prefer some lightweight cabs as opposed to the 1x15 Peavey monster I have currently...got enough back problems They seem like a lot of money, but would go with my Superfly head.
