Thanks for the replies. Is the Tascam 788 a bit long in the tooth now? There's one for sale for £80 second hand... I like the idea of being able to plug in directly as it has a guitar input. I'm also thinking that I could potentially 'track' band rehearsals, or maybe everything but the drums or something? I realise it works on how many tracks you can use at the same time.

I've got a few song ideas that I'd like to get recorded, but have never done it before. So where do you begin? I am a competent guitarist, and would like to do it all myself (might get a drum program...). I'm not hoping for something overly professional, as I don't want to spend a lot. Saying that, would like it to sound like a proper demo. I can't sing and play, so I need multitrack software, but whats decent and cheap/free? I can initially record an acoustic guitar with my Zoom H2, and am willing to buy a decent soundcard (don't want to spend over £100). I've never even dabbled before, so I'm guessing I'll record the acoustic first to get an idea of structure. Any advice? Website links?

I've recently been getting tingling in my left hand radiating to my two middle fingers. It seems to start in my palm. Could this be Carpal tunnel syndrome? I've been back playing the bass for a year, but haven't altered my practice routine at all recently - still playing with the same old strap at the same height on the same bass. The obvious advice is to go and see the Doctor, but being a Paramedic I am very suspicous of (incompetent) Doctors around my area... How else do you diagnose Carpal Tunnel syndrome. Should I stop playing the bass for a few weeks? TBH I'm sh*tting myself at the prospect of not being able to play...

Thanks for all the advice, any more tips? Really need to travel and actually test these cabs. Can I expect a similar type of bottom end to smaller cabs? How much bottom end would I get from two 1x12 Bergantino's for example? I'm actually newish to the bass world (playing bass for about a year), but MUST get lightweight gear as a priority.
Hmmm, lightweight sensitive speakers - sounds like a job for BFM... How good are you at woodwork?
Sadly I'd probably cut a finger off if I went near a saw...

Funny, I bought the 2x10s as a pair and sold one...maybe your 115 was a different model?

I've decided that I MUST change my bass amp to lightweight gear as my back won't take it. Only problem is that I'm skint... So, one option is to sell my Elite Precision. It's in black with a maple fretboard and is immaculate for its age - looks about 6 months old (I kid you not!!). Comes with the original hard case which I believe was a special for this bass. The gold hardware is hardly tarnished - it is truly awesome. I paid £900, obviously the price reflects the condition. Looking to get that back if possible. Would consider trades for some ultra light weight cabs/lightweight amp - anything considered. If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll stick some pictures up.
I cant think of anything that will sound as bad as that Peavey combination - sorry.
I think that's being a little harsh, mine sounds OK. If you had nothing useful to contribute to the thread, why bother replying?

I'm currently playing an Ashdown Superfly through a Peavey 115 BW and a Peavey 210 TVX. As you are probably aware, these things are back breakers. What ultralightweight cabs would give me a similar sort of sound? I'm looking to upgrade to a Genz Benz Shuttle 6 eventually, so they must work well with that too. Looking to go as lightweight and portable as is possible - two one speaker cabs 2 1x12s maybe? I'm in a covers band playing pop rock (think Bon Jovi/Bryan adams sort of stuff). Volume wise, I'm running the Superfly virtually on full (at 3 o clock position) and the speakers are 4 ohms, so could do with more sensitive speakers too. Any recommendations?

I've decided to go back to pedals...after 3 months with rack gear...I just can't be arsed lugging it all around (looking at an ultra light bass setup). So here I have my rack bits for sale. The tuner is I the DTR 1000 with the blue lights on it - very accurate, only used maybe 5 times hence the sale. Ditto the Behringer. Nice cheap Preamp in immaculate condition ON HOLD The 6u rack case has been used for about 3 months but shows no signs of wear. No rack rash on the gear. Tuner £70 delivered, Behringer £40 delivered, rack bag £40 delivered. All prices are cash - for Paypal I'll need you to pay the fees. Collection from Hull/meet in Sheffield possible. I've revised the prices as apparently I was asking new cash for the tuner...obviously come down £30 in the last 3 months... Also Gotoh 201 Chrome bridge - unused in bag (never fitted) £20 delivered Obviously will part ex any of the gear for a lightweight 10/12/15'' cab Check my feedback on here - I don't sell crap

I'll give that a go, cheers

Firstly, I normally avoid tab like the plague as I've got a bass trainer and like to work things out. Problem is that I can't get the main riff to sound right, could someone provide me with the correct tab? I've looked at a few on the net, and they aren't right. I'm sure there's a dead note in it somewere??

It occured to me a few weeks ago that certain songs have improved my technique in set areas. Two songs which immediately spring to mind are: Smooth Criminal has really improved my right hand plucking speed Captain Crash (Bon Jovi) has improved my timing as I really struggled to play it in time at first. What pop/rock songs do you feel have really improved your technique?
Strangely, mine also smelled of coffee.
Mine too!! Must be the materials. I swear the case is heavier than the bass! I think mine has a different tone control as there isn't a centre indent on it??

I've just bought a Fender Elite 1 Precision which has been supplied with the weirdest case I've ever seen. Is brown plastic with what looks like brass banding and four twist to undo catches. The interior is a very plush brown. Just wondering what case came with the Elites...anyone know?
I'd probably take it if you were going near lichfield or chester anytime soon, but otherwise I think picking it up would be too tricky.
Do you drive? Could meet in the middle (about 60 miles away if you are going back to Lichfield...)
