1.
Cheers for that-illustrates it very nicely. I've also read another theory that it was an intentional feature - with the extra wood at that point helping to keep the neck pocket from cracking...
I think Fender were into making 'features' of things that made production easier.
2. If it broke, it is probably cause the slot wasn't quite big enough, graphtechs do that, they are brittle. Whilst unemployed I filed one out of a bone from the butchers, worked pretty well. Set of files is ytou best bet, I found a graphtec slightly too thick for my p copy so I skimmed it down with wet and dry laid over a piece of glass ( totally flat that way).
3. Tim Commerford uses left handed necks cause they give him more tension in his low B. More string free to stretch means more tension needed to stretch it, is how I see it.
4. I got one of those through sting only bridges, with lots of allen bolts to tighen it. You can feel the body resonate a lot more than the bent plate job, and it sustains for days, but I had trouble with string length, I wish I'd gone with onoe that had the option. The silk is a cut and burn job, unless you run out of thick bit, whish is the trouble I had.
5. I have a suspician my basses will get named after my exes, one in particular will take on the name of one in particular, it was delivered to her house, and it was a bit rubbish, I worked on it, and it got better, but ultimately its only filling in till I get a better one, but I will look back on it fondly. Seems harshly appropriate.
6. Now I checked out Buckethead's other stuff, he is suddenly my favourite guitarist.
7.
id love that cab and the amp pity money aint great, and the postage to to bristol would be ridiculously expensive
I've got a similar peavey 2x10 and 1x15 going, in bristol, although I've had some interest.
8. Also, buying bits off Ebay isn't necessarily the cheapest way. Often a body will sell for around the same price as a whole bass. Might be best off scoping a cheap Squire, SX or other solid wood reasonable rep cheapy and resculpting it for your needs. If you want the personal touch, without the finding the bits don't fit, get a kit, hit up ebay for some random upgrade parts as they come cheap, pass the drying and sanding time that way. There are plenty of bridges for not much on ebay and my experience of them has been good, I like the coutour ones, as long as the is enough grub screws, it should all lock together and you can adjust the action and intonation to suit. If you are local to Bristol, I'll gladly give a hand or pointer.
9. WAsn't the King Crimson guy taping cut down drumsticks to his fingers? Sure I read about it recently on actual paper so musta been a recent mag.
10. I have dead strong nails, but there is a sweet spot length that you can control your sound with finger angle, but I generally just cut them all off.
11. I've been working my way up to it for the last coupla years, from buying a cheapy and switching everything out to figure how stuff affects to the sound, defretting and refretting, and most recently, I got a outline blank body and used the neck off my first electric to make a new guitar: Problem is my huge accumulation of spare parts and butchered intruments.
12. I went Buzzard, stupidly pointy death machine, but also apparently practical when hung on the Ox.
13. If you do have to smash up your bass on stage, make sure there is a photographer handy:
14. I suspect there is no great call for bottom end hardware. Most people are replacing such things with better, and people making a bass want to use fancy hardware.

16. Oh, and I was just considering making the guy another offer. The work needed put it overbudget for me.
17. An American luthier I know has got a new line called the Hot Rod Vintage, which are based on his own favourite P bass. He's got custom Kent Armstrong pickups that are quad coil, they look like a humbucker, but you can switch to offset coils for the whole P bass thing. 21. Bought the Firebass stack that was advertised hear, did a deal, so ended up with the cabs that I don't really need, as I'm happy enough with the cabs I have. 2x10 with a tweeter, and a 1x15 ported. I'll happily split them, I can probably get them couriered somewhere, but clearly being bass cabs and made by Peavey, thats not ideal. I'll sort pics eventually. Hit me up with offers. Ok, imminent moving means if someone give me £200 for these, they are gone. Heres a pic:
22. Aargh, my inner santa already scored me something else.
23. Black with tort, and rosewood blocked neck was my plan, shame I don't get on with skinny jazz necks.
24. When you take the cold amp inside, a bunch of condensation will form on it, thats water. Water + electrics plugged in = unhappyness. Gotta let it warm up and dry out. Good demo was my first bass that was zebra striped with electrical tape, been sat in an outbuilding at home. Go home for Xmas, and feel the urge, so I got get it for a post dinner thump. Due to hot food and family of breathig and such, water is literally running down it, and all the tape is screwed, and sticks to me and it was pretty nasty. Course electrickery is worse.
