1. Turns out they can pull rickenfaker auctions even if you've already won them, and suggest you contact the seller if you've already paid, which you can't because the listing is gone and there is no contact button any more. Have to go via paypal email, which bypasses all the ebay 'security'.
2. Action looks lush. I think save the photos, get someone to o a paint job on a better made bass. Seem to be some reasonable semis about now. JoeGarcia just bought one, can't recall what it was but his biggest gripe was not liking Y key tuners. Dudes that paint motorcycle fuel tanks would be good.
3. I had the Laney Nexus, pretty straight up 400w.
4. If you plugged in a ss amp like, you might have shorted the output with the jack, which might have toasted the output transistors, or associated components, which would make it blow fuses. Briefly unplugging a valve amp is unlikely to actually kill an output transformer, they need a bit of time to do real damage.
5. You sent it back before he paid for it being sent back?
6. I didn't like the sealed Hydrive 4x10 at all.
7.
I wonder what the differences are between the 400 and 400+??? they look the same
Totally different power section using different valves.
8. Lots of arm waving accompanies drone, so everyone can see when to him the next note, because they only come every few minutes.
9. I took it off my old bass that really wasn't worth the upgrades I put on it. Those are still available on ebay. I like the topload system an smoothness.
10. Possibly a bad connection somewhere, pull off an put back on spade connectors, resolder everything.
11. Assume this is a faker from the weird listing an start price, worth an email see what he's really after: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item416499af0e
12. Bump to maybe save me having to ship this to Germany.
13.
Mr Foxen, what should i look out for when replacing the power valves then? Just trust mike hill? how much did you pay for yours new Chris?
An amp designed for having its power valves replaced. The issue is with the amp, not the valves. Edit: There is a well known mod to add adjustable bias, but not sure it it is an overall or a pair of adjusters. Pair is better as you can adjust the balance between the push/pull halves.
14. I did just remember that the applicator of my Dunlop oil shed fibers for ages, was a bit annoying.
15.
Mr. Foxen thats really interesting i assumed "hand matched" really meant the tech was looking out for me, please tell me i havent been lured into marketing buzz word buying
"hand matched" is even worse, hands don't tell you anything about electrical properties, maybe he picks them out of a pile and matches up the logos. Stuff has to be matched to the fairly specific conditions in your amp. And without a stated tolerance it is definitely a marketing buzzword, they could be matched with an enormous error margin.
16. Lemon oil can mean various things, some that is basically detergent is what gives the 'makes it worse' idea. Other stuff is actually oil. I'm using the dunlop 65 stuff currently, seems fine.
17.
Unspecific 410? What are you talking about?
As in 'a 4x10' rather than 'an SWR Goliath III'. An SWR Goliath III is specific, with a specific associated sound, the is no sound specific to 4x10s except for poor off axis response.
18.
I would recommend Barefaced to anyone, but if someone wanted a 410 they should not be confused at all, there are some very good ones around these days.
The fact someone wants an unspecific 4x10 demonstrates that they are confused, because they are under the misapprehension that being a 4x10 has some property other than 4 10" speakers. Every beneficial property of a cabinet containing 4 10" speakers in the familiar square formation can be done better with no downside by other configurations. You can't even 'let your ears decide' because ears aren't in the right place to do so.
19. Well, if dude wants an honest sell, send him here. The Maya I had hands on that looked like this was pretty ahead of any RIC made instruments I've had my hands on.
20. I've seen one like this before, it was a Maya or El Maya. Really nice instrument. Don't ump it jsut because its a fake, but negotiate a more appropriate price.
21. I got a roll of this, its working fine for me, I get through solder, this stuff is quite fine: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360434145079&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:1123
22. Don't really keep toy amps in stock.
23. Indie: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/indie-irc-bass-guitar-/280860039169?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4164901801
24.
Thanks very much Balcro & Stevie; very much appreciated. I'll drop Eminence a line as you suggest. Mr Foxen: if I didn't know better, I'd think you have a crush on me. You seem to have made commenting on all of my posts your raison d'etre......
You appear to have a lot of money, an a desire for valve amps. I have a lot of valve amps and a desire for money.
