1.
Aside from the cost factor and the law of diminishing returns. I don't disagree, however. Most high-ticket basses are better. There is an interesting phenomenon that simply pricing something higher makes it's disproportionately more valuable, which harks the old question "Is a Fender really worth it?".
Yes, I have to have at least one or two Fenders at home. It keeps my Squiers on their toes, so they try harder. Then I can gig with the Squiers
 2.
I find this "I sound great, therefore I play better" attitude quite hard to understand. I consider sounding great to be relative to the people you are playing with, not relative to other basses. When musicians are on the same wavelength with each other, they sound great. It wouldn't matter if you had the most expensive bass in the world or not, a great jam is a great jam.
reread the "I sound great, therefore I play better" as "I love the way this bass feels and sounds, therefore I find it more inspiring to play, so I am more in tune with it and as a result I seem to play better - or I enjoy playing it more" that's how I understand it, at least. There was nothing wrong with my OLPs, and I've been known to be a bit of a reverse snob, but when I got my Stingray it just felt right in a way that the OLPs didn't quite match.
 3.
Looking purely at the facts, spending £2,000 on a guitar to play 15 £200 gigs throughout the year doesn't make business sense.
but it may make all the sense in pleasure terms... 15 gigs a year at £200 a pop is clearly not a business
 4.
Question here for the wise: Is there any reason why I shouldn't use it as an expansion to the CM121? I know that due to the watts rating, of course I'd need to keep it turned down.
I used to have a Schroeder mini10R. It was roughly the size of the Retro One, but heavier, and rated to 300W. I used it quite a bit with my CMD121P combo, and it was a nice combination. I played quite a few small bar gigs like that, where its small footprint was ideal, and it mnoved a lot more air than you'd think. I don't see why those two would not work well together. You won't break anything, so try it
 5.
As requested. The combo on the left is a CMD121. Both have their back panels parallel. Coke can is standard size. It's really light to carry. I'd say making one that has a docking port to take the amp would be a cool option; so the amp is protected and saves you carrying it as a separate item.
ha ha! the perfect photo. Now we need a review comparing the CMD121P combo to the One+LMIII. Tone, output, girth... pleeeease
 6.
Can you put it beside a can of Coke for scale purposes please (not one of the crappy tiny ones you get on airplanes) I can only truly guage the size of something if it's beside a can of coke.
yes!
 7.
Nice, and it'll look good on stage. It has a bit of a Charvel/Jackson vibe about it, but thankfully without the pointy headstock!
that's true!!!!!!!! but yeah, not a fan of pointy headstocks. I did own an Ibanez RG548 (SSH, floyd rose, pointy headstock) but it was natural ash so a bit more subdued and not so "80s"... that's as far as I'd go.
 8.
NICE! Lovely as it is tho, with a Delano MM pickup between the reverse P and the Bridge, you'd seriously have something special there!!
I did toy with the idea of adding a second reverse P right below the other one... but my whole point was simplicity and the hybrid thing: still fat, still reminiscent of a Precision, but a little more definition.
 9.
Thanks for the replies chaps! Also, why so many holes?
They moved production to Switzerland for a little while...
 10.
That's really not my kinda bass. But as not my kinda basses go that's one really really lovely not my kinda bass!!! Hmmmm... Starting to get seriously tempted by this brand!
11.
New Cab Day! http://i963.photobuc...zpsmmqh5nie.jpg I'm really pleased with it. Met Alex and learned more about their thinking. Great guy. He'll do well. He is doing well.
it's tiny! (and I love the way it looks ) I want to hear these minibeast! Especially with that very same amplifier
 12.
Yeah i think you are probably right!! Still unsure of whether to order an ACG which has pre-amps i like or a cheaper but equally well built Adrian bass!
can you buy the ACG preamps?
 13.
Can't wait to see your new Maruszczyk. The basschat Maruszczyk club is starting to expand. My Elwood is having new wood covered Haussel pickups installed next week so I will post my new baby soon.
it's this one: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/269295-nbd-maruszczyk-jake-4-custom
 14.
Eh?? I thought it was green.
It's the Jake 'sunglasses' custom 4
Credit where it's due. I was thinking along broadly similar lines myself. Less is more!
Indeed. After years of adding preamps and extra switching combinations to everything... I am now appreciating the beauty of a simple instrument: one pickup, basic tone shaping, volume to mute when not playing.
 15.
Loving it! It looks great with the bold red and simple colour config. Congrats mate What specs did you go with for it?
I went for the standard Jake design with a number of variations: Passive electronics - volume/tone Ash body Maple neck/fingerboard, vintage tint glossy lacquer 3mm diameter side dots 43mm spacing at the nut and 21mm deep at 1st fret (wide and wide spacing, but not chunky in cross-section) Hipshot ultralite tuners ETS bridge (20mm spacing, top-loading) Delano PMVC 4 AL-H pickup The pickup is in reverse orientation and slightly closer to the bridge than normal. Essentially, the DG coil is about 5mm closer to the neck than the standard Precision DG, and the EA coil just below it. I was playing with pickup placements a while ago on an old OLP, and that was roughly one of the positions I liked a lot. It was fat, but a bit more defined than a Precision, yet it still share a lot with the Precision. If I moved it closer towards the bridge then it started getting too much into Stingray territory, even using P type pickups, so that looked like a good place for a "hybrid". I love the Precision, but I miss the extra definition I get on a Stingray. This is my attempt to get something that would sit in between. Oh, it also has my band's logo on the headstock
 16.
I beg to differ, it looks totally fantastic. But now I want the same in vintage white with chrome hardware... Would you mind very much if I was a bit nosy and asked you to PM me a few details? Cost, waiting time, etc? Thanks and congratulations on a really cracking bass. If it plays and sounds as good as it looks then you've got a winner there.
Thank you! I'll PM you tonight. Put the kettle on.
 17.
Wow, that is......red! Congrats Si
RED? crap! my monitor is playing up again... it's supposed to be blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 18.
It's official Adrian, simple does not make bad looking basses!!! Love it man and I can't believe it's ready so quickly!!!!! How long did you have to wait?
I ordered it in early-mid July... so about 8-9 weeks? I wasn't expecting it yet!
 19.
Any chance of a picture of your one? Give how nice all of the Maruszczyk basses are I very much doubt its anything but awesome.
It's here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/269295-nbd-maruszczyk-jake-4-custom/
 20. Much faster than the 10 weeks I expected... my new Jake is ready! I'll not have it with me until next week, but Adrian sent me a picture to keep me daydreaming It's a very simple design, and not a looker compared to other basses, admittedly. I did not go for looks on this one, but for simplicity and I specified all hardware, pickup placement, neck profile/finish, even the side dots... Can't wait!!! (edit: it arrived at post #20)
 21.
Hi folks, I just got an email from Adrian this morning to say my new Maruszczyk Elwood has been finished and is on its way to me. He sent me a nice pic too so I thought I would share it with you all.
wow, that is seriously sexy! I also got a similar email from Adrian this morning... but although I love mine, visually yours is in another league entirely Mine is pretty pedestrian looking, by design, and I don't regret it, yours is a work of art... congratulations!!! I'll post mine separately... but it'll look like the ugly duckling next to yours
 22. And my new Maruszczyk Jake is finished!!! I've seen it and it's gooooorgeous It'll be posted on Monday. The last few days are the worst to wait...
 23.
I bought it, despite The Final Frontier and A Matter of Life and Death being a bit boring. I'm pleasantly surprised. I do like the new single, it's a bit of a stomper and great on a morning run. Some songs are a bit too long - Empire of the Clouds for example! But overall, best thing they've done since 7th Son in my humble opinion.
Agreed. And at first I didn't mind, but... yeah, I wish some songs were a LOT shorter...
 24. I've been using my F1 for a couple of years now, regularly, and still looks in great shape. I love it. I was disappointed to hear about the demise of the F1, as it's in my eyes the very best gig bag around... it's more than a gigbag, of course. I'm glad to hear that the Urban is probably a suitable substitute, and perhaps even an upgrade.
 25.
I don't think anything he says in the vid is not what everyone already knows, really.
Of course not, but what I liked best was the "don't be discouraged by lower quality gear". I think that's a point well worth repeating. It seems to me that there is a lot of emphasis put on gear, and younger guys starting to play may feel some pressure to spend cash they don't have to buy that holy grail of amp/guitar (I know a couple of guys who certainly got too stressed out about gear that way)... or treating their guitar like sh*t (in public, not when alone) because it was only a lowly "crappy" Squier. It's sad that they are made to feel that way (a certain amount of stupidity may be a factor too... but we're all afflicted by some degree of stupidity as a teenager ) when the truth is their instruments will do the job.
