I'm glad you said that. I kept looking at the strings on his guitar and thought they looked aa bit on the chubby side. That would explain it.

Simon Gallup is a very under rated bass player. His Schecter Ultra bass is cool as...

Yes, he swaps between a black one and a white one on the Lollapalooza show and they look and sound great.

I could never play a bass that low though. It even look a little uncomfortable for him in a couple of places. 

What a great gig to have though. Not hideously complicated, but a lot of power play.

I think they've been a great singles band, but I'd find it difficult to pick more that five non-single tracks that appeal to me.

It is a great feeling to acquaintance yourself with a band with a huge back catalogue...I've experienced this with XTC for about the last three or four years.  I liked their singles back in the day but beyond that I wasn't interested for precisely the same reason as you; too much Kiss and Rush and Starz and Aerosmith and and and.

Ah yes, XTC. Must have been going through that about the same time as you. Bought their compilation for my wife and got hooked myself. Great band.

Love Aerosmith too, but always have since I first heard Sweet Emotion. The Toxic Twin Towers Ball was a great gig. Last one at the old Wembley Stadium as I recall?

I would love to start a gig with something as laid back as Plainsong. It's just lovely. Perfect festival fare that one.

Did make me laugh. When the come back on for the encore, Robert makes a comment about how much time they've been told they have left to the second and then sings the theme to Countdown....like Lollapalooza will know what that is

Ha ha. Wish is the only CD album I have. I remember picking that up because I heard Friday I'm In Love and thought that was good, but the whole album is so much better.

I watched 2 hour documentary The Cure Play Out last night. Fascinating stuff.

The Cure kind of passed me by at a time when I should have been probably paying more attention. I just wasn't into their thing at the time I guess. I spent most of my time listening to Alice Cooper, Kiss, Genesis, Rush etc

But now I have time on my hands, as is often the case, I get hooked on an artist I missed and voraciously devour everything I can find by them.

I was a bit gutted to find that not only have they not done much live stuff this year, that they also did quite a large tour in 2016 and there is nothing planned for 2018 apart from Hyde Park which will be there only European date. At 2018 is their 40th Anniversary year.

That can't be right can it?

I'm starting on amassing my The Cure collection. What do I have to look forward to?

I don't know why it keeps popping up on my You Tube feed as I haven't mistakenly clicked on one for a long time, but I noticed a 'reaction video' for the Rush song YYZ keeps appearing.

I presume the sole purpose of this type of video is to make money from the amount of views as I can't think of a reason for them being there otherwise.

It's not like any of them have any formalised critique of what they are being 'exposed' to as I presume the whole point of them is to capture exactly that moment.  

I hope they pay well as it seems a completely pointless exercise to me. Or am I missing something?

I had a noodle on this one today and IMHO it's a truly lovely example of Fodera's expertise. Stop on by for a test drive.

I found myself in Waterstones yesterday and saw a large table full of piles of books titled "1001 ??????? to see/hear/eat/visit/etc Before You Die".

The people that create these books/lists seem to be making a decent living from compiling them. It's all a bit Emperor's New Clothes to me.

Yes, sorry. I meant to put the link in and forgot. I really like The Cure and personally would put them in above The Stone Roses. All a matter of taste I guess, but no Genesis or Marillion either and the absence of Motörhead is just plain wrong.

Definitely. I would be inclined to replace Super Furry Animals with Deep Purple, Cream or Iron Maiden any day of the week 😀

Should make blue happy, but the other 19 have a few notable omissions. Makes no mention of how this 'greatness' was measured, so I guess it's in someone's humble opinion.

Ha. That's a can of worms if ever there was one. Let's just say things deteriorated to the point where Dweezil was prevented from touring under the name "Zappa Plays Zappa".

Civilization Phaze III is fine, but as you say it's not an easy listen. I certainly can't put than on when there's anyone else in the house without getting complaints and it wouldn't be in my top ten Zappa albums.

The Yellow Shark is fantastic though. I absolutely love that album.

You're right, there's a lot of Zappa stuff on-line. I have a whole hard drive chock full of bootlegs, more than I could probably listen to in a year, but I just can't help myself. If they were sloppily produced and massively overpriced, I would probably steer clear, but they're not IMHO. As far as I am aware, Joe Travers is still the Vaultmeister and as well as being a great drummer, he has helped put together a lot of great releases. I console myself that whatever the misgivings of the persons at the helm of the ZFT, I'm helping to keep Joe in a job 😀
