Just looking at your set list, it appears that a lot of the original versions of the songs feature more than a little sequenced parts in their backing. What does your band do about those? If they are included is your keyboard player expected to program them up and provided the means to play them back?

Oh and "Together In Electric Dreams" is not by The Human League, it's by Phil Oakey & Giorgio Moroder. There's an important difference [/pedant]

No backing tracks. All 100% live. The guy I’m speaking with has played all of the songs before in an 80’s band. He has all the gear required, including a sequencer. He’s quite looking forward to using it again for ‘Rio’.

Point taken regarding Electric Dreams. I shall have myself shot later 🤪

  2. Update - as a result of @Silvia Bluejay's suggestion regarding the UK Dep Musicians's Group on FB I have now found and spoken with a guy that seems to fit the bill for us. Just trying to arrange rehearsal dates now.

I'm a bit hopeless with social media at the best of times and Twitter still baffles me, so thanks for the steer Silvia and to everyone else who commented. It's very much appreciated.

  3. Apologies to all for posting in General Discussion, but more people will see this here and I’ve already tried a thread in Musicians Wanted to no avail. There must be a few other bass players in 80’s bands here, so I’m hoping you might be able to assist.

The situation is now critical with my band ‘Total 80’s’. Our keys player has emigrated and we have three outstanding Agency gigs that we cannot cover. In all likelihood we will have to cancel them if we don’t find a keys player that can cover them. That will be a shame as it’s a really fun set and great people to play with.

    The dates are:

Nov 9th @ Penistone Paramount, Sheffield

    Nov 16th @ Hartlepool

Nov 17th @ Bedworth Theatre, Bedford - these last two will be an overnight job due to distance.

The set list is shown below. I think they are all in the original key and for the most part are very similar in structure as well.

These are decent paying gigs and at least one rehearsal will be required which will be in Rayleigh, Essex.

Please Basschat, spread the word to anyone you might know that could handle these gigs.

    Regards,

    Warren.

Just catching up on this thread rather late in the day. Glad you have sorted a solution that works for you. I own a Fender Flea and a Status - love them both but cannot think of two more different instruments so fascinated by this combination. I had to tweak my Flea bass neck a few weeks ago which I put down to the weather - it was during that really hot part of summer. But nothing as severe as yours. Would be very interested to hear what Fender say when they have looked at this properly.

The initial feedback from Fender wasn't great to be honest, however, since my sense of humour failure, they have apologised and are arranging to have the neck collected (by UPS of all people 🙄) so that they can examine it.

They have said once they confirm the neck is a write off, they will send me a replacement (neck).

  5. 39,321 registered Basschatters and the most we've had online since the conversion is 986?

We can do better than 2.5% can't we?

Let's set a time and date, a window of 5 minutes on a Sunday perhaps, and smash that figure well north of four figures.

Just for the hell of it 😀

  6. Having had a think about how I was going to word my reply to Fender, I sent an e-mail off to them and have had a further response from them today.

Thankfully they seem to be taking this matter a little more seriously now and have offered to have the bass collected so that it can be inspected at Fender UK.

Although I haven’t mentioned what has happened to the bass since the start of this thread, my plan is to negotiate the return of just the neck. Having spoken with Rob at Status, I think it should be fairly clear to anyone who knows a bit about guitars that the neck is shot, without it being attached to the rest of it 😬.

I’ve tried taking a photo of what the neck looks like. It’s not a great picture to be honest, but it’s the best my phone will do.

I’m not even sure what a neck like this should look like when it is unstressed, but I'm fairly sure it's not like this!

That works really well. I've never once played a Status but I would love to try one.

Looks really good that H.  Not doing my Status GAS any good at all.  Missing my old Streamline but can't decide which bass to cull to enable an acquisition.  A nice replacement (fretted) neck on my MM Fretless might be the order of the day!

There is a nice looking Series 2 for sale at Bass Direct at the moment 😀

I assume it has plain white dots then.

I was speaking from the point of view of a passive bass owner wanting a bit more tonal choice without going active and needing batteries.  My Vantage fretless would be a possible candidate.  I'd imagine the composite neck would expose some interesting overtones even with flats on.

Yes, I think you’re right. It could give it a more open sound, but I don’t think you would know for sure unless you bit the bullet.

Yes, plain white dots on mine 👍

I like the new aesthetic a lot.

The vintage reliced body with the hi tech neck give it a sort of steampunk vibe.

I'm sure it sounds and plays fantastically well too.

Yes, I don’t think it would work quite as well for me with new shiny tuners and a pristine shell pink body. Bit of an odd contrast going on, which I like 😀

Apologies for being "that guy" but personally this just doesn't work for me aesthetically at all. That's just my tuppence worth though. I'll bet however that it is extremely functional.

All the very best with it!

No need to apologise mate. There are loads of people who didn’t like the Flea in its original spec 😀. I’m just happy I can play it again.
