Young Americans. Do you have female backing vocals with that?
Oh yes. The lovely Natalie will be joining us for that one.
P.S. I know I dropped down too late during the intro. I was having pedal issues -
Some surprising results so far in the 'pick our next three songs' poll.
Probably not surprising that Young Americans is favourite, but I really did think Breaking Glass would do better than it has.
Also, Sister Midnight in second place? Given that Bowie only performed it on the Reality Tour, I didn't think it would be that popular. This is why I don't gamble

I vote for "Love You 'Till Tuesday" - I unaccountably had a copy of "The World Of..." not long after it first came out as a 6 or 7 year old. That was my favourite tune. You could do THAT instead of Medals!!!
Now that is a good song 👍 -

I can picture the discussion:
HKH - ...and some odd bloke on Basschat suggested She's Got Medals
Rest of the Band (in unison) - F*** that
The actual reply was something along the lines of 'She's Got Medals is too much like David Bowie trying to be Ray Davies' , which I don't necessarily see as a bad thing, but it's not me that would have to sing it, so.... -

As a fan of Victor Meldrew I tend to avoid polls because they wind me up. To misquote the old curmudgeon; I'd rather creosote a rhinoceros than take part.
I was curious about one tune of DB's however; Wild Eyed Boy from Freecloud (or Freedom, if you have seen one of the rare releases with that typo)... if it was in your set you'd do the first version sans orchestral accompaniment wouldn't you? Or have you got an ambitious keyboard jockey who can MIDI up a convincing orchestra for you?
Just curious.
It's just meant to be a bit of fun to see out of those six songs which people would prefer given the choice.
WEBFF isn't one of them this time around, but nothing is off limits, with the exception of The Laughing Gnome 😀 Actually, after this morning's band conversation, I don't think we will be doing She's Got Medals anytime soon either. Sorry Andy_L 😬
I'll have a word with our keys player. He's a music teacher and he's all MIDI'd up, so I'm sure it would be do-able. -
After two days, it's fairly clear which song is going to come out on top, but there are only a couple of votes between 2nd, 3rd and 4th places.
If you haven't done so, please visit our homepage, choose a song and click 'vote'. It's just for fun, but the results so far are not what I expected. -

Which is and always will be the correct answer when discussing the Tin Machine songs on the set list!!!
Mmm, I have to say I do like Tin Machine. We've spoken about getting Baby Universal gig ready as well as Under The God, but with so much other Bowie material to hand, they've kind of taken a back seat. -
Flummoxed by the unexpected absence of She's Got Medals in the options; ended up going for Young Americans
Well, one of them pre-dates Medals
We tried to get a date at Norwich Arts Centre and, well, it didn't work out too well -
Well, let's just say I didn't vote for any tunes off the Tin Machine albums!
There aren't any 😬 -

Done. Went unashamedly populist, I'm afraid!

Ha ha, I think I can guess which one you picked then and I thank you 👍 -
It makes a good set for sure, but still no Moonage Daydream, Five Years, Rock & Roll Suicide and the list goes on. You have mix the classics with the hits, but we do like to visit some of the less obvious album material as well.
Have you done the click on our front page Trevor? Things are very close for 3rd place at the moment -

Young Americans for me.
At long last it looks like I can finally make one of your gigs! Rayleigh Mill in January.

Great stuff Paul 👍

Ashes to Ashes,
but,,,, only this version.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNqo0kIR-TU
That is exactly the version we do. I'm sure I have a recording somewhere of us doing it.
As my previous post says, it needs to be one of the songs shown on our homepage though 👍 -
Just for a bit of fun, we've added a poll to the front page of our web site. We usually learn songs in batches of six (i.e. one choice each), but we're a bit pushed for time before the next gig, so have agreed we will do three. But which three?
We've all chosen one each. All you have to do is go to our homepage and vote for one song. We will learn the three that get the most votes. Closing date 31/7/17. -
From Thursday's gig @ Hylands Park, Chelmsford.
Life on Mars?- 1
-
Now sold out. You can still turn up and enjoy the food and alcohol in the grounds of Hylands Park, but won't be able to get into the gig, although as it's outside, you'll still be able to hear it 😀
-
Ticket update.
-
As part of the Sounds of Summer Festival at Hylands Park, Chelmsford this year, we are playing the Thursday night. Don't be put off thinking it's a late finish on a school night as it concludes at 10pm.
The organiser of this event is a long time Bowie fan and we've put together a great set including a new opener, some of our favourite rarely heard Bowie tracks plus a few we haven't played for a while.
As of this morning (3/7) there are only 17 tickets remaining. Tickets via this link.
We definitely will be doing this one....

See the original We Go Together in the film ( Grease ) . I guess the film director wanted some extra music at the start of the song to give the actors time to run into place and asked for something with added lift . The old up-a-tone trick works neatly .
Yes, you're probably quite right. I haven't watched the film for a while. Show tunes do quirky things for a number of reasons.
I've just mapped out the bass part to 24K Magic. That's a load of fun to play as well. Apparently we're using this version as a template....
http://youtu.be/KkupLU5kdTc
....which does things a bit differently from the studio version. I don't think Jamareo played on the studio version as it was all synth, but I really love his playing on this. Some great little fills against the drums too. -

sounds like a lot of fun and good on you for donating your time and abilities for charity, good karma
Thanks. It really is fun. Hard work as there will be limited rehearsal time, but really good to do.
We struck it lucky last year and a mystery audience member donated £5,000 after seeing the show. I hope he/she comes back this year 😀

All That Jazz and Diamonds Are Forever - an eclectic set.
Yes, the singer for the second half of Band B is a burlesque performer and I anticipate she will throw herself into the All That Jazz with gusto. Strangely, the link I was sent for that track had no 'bass' in it per se. Apparently I'm playing the tuba score. Diamonds is sorted already. Lovely tune. -
I've just been given my batch of songs to learn for big charity gig I take part in every year. I have no say in the material or who I'm playing with as that is all sorted out by the musical director. Good job too really as it's a huge undertaking and with four different band line-up's in the show, it's a right headache to organise. It really is great fun as it's never the same line-up and I kind of like being steered towards playing stuff I wouldn't normally do.
The purpose of the post was just to mention one song in particular, but I may as well give you the whole set:
Band A
Cake by the Ocean
Skin
Galway Girl
Rude
Wake Up Boo
A Design For Life
Don’t Look Back in Anger
Common People
Band B
24K Magic
The Other Side
Play That Song
Pretty Young Thing
Beauty and The Beast (duet)
All That Jazz
Diamonds Are Forever
We Go Together
+1 more song to be added
Band C
Lucille
Runaround Sue
Shake, Rattle & Roll
Jailhouse Rock
Queen of The Night
Ain't No Other Man
Crazy in Love
It's Raining Men
Encore Band
Roll Over Beethoven
Freedom
Rocking All Over The World
So, I'm playing bass for Band B. I've just learnt We Go Together and it changes key after four bars! It never goes back to that opening key after those 4 seconds. Simple tune though and fun to play.
P.S. Who is Jason Derulo? -
This has popped up on the Rickenbacker FB page recently and I quite like the look of it.
More interestingly, there is a pink one on the bench behind it, surreptitiously placed no doubt.

Just had a look thru the web page VID clips. Band sounds really good especially the recent clips. Obviously the band has settled over the last 2 yrs and are far more confident in their playing.
Very impressed ...............NOW GET SOME GIGS UP HERE IN SCOTLAND
Please
Dave
That's very nice of you to say Dave. Thank you.
Well, your wish could come true. We've started getting gigs through an agent and one of the other acts he manages have been sent far and wide, so there is hope.
Last day of the poll today and 3rd & 4th spots are all tied up. Someone please break the deadlock
Go to www.changestwobowie.co.uk and choose one from:
Breaking Glass
Can't Help Thinking About Me
Hallo Spaceboy
Sister Midnight
Station to Station
Young Americans
The top three songs get the treatment for our gig at Chinnerys, Southend-On-Sea on 16/9.
