This post is completely pointless.
You don't like Rickenbacker basses then, I love them................................
The title of the topic is the title of the You Tube clip. It was not of my making.
If you had read the whole thread you would know that I'm also a Rickenbacker owner.
I posted it as I thought some would enjoy it for what it is and not take it personally.

Rickenbacker seemed alright for Chris Squire.
His playing gets loads of praise on here.

Really don't see the point in this thread, each to his own.
I don't expect to like every bass I pick up.
The point of this thread, as mentioned above, is that it's a bit of fun and no more than that. Dave is entitled to his opinion as much as anyone else.
I don't expect to like every bass I pick up either. In fact, it accounts for a lot of basses I've sold over the years including, sacrilege I know, a Pino Custom Shop. I just didn't gel with it and that's my problem, not anyone else's.
For the most part, I've enjoyed all the Rickenbacker's I've owned. I wish I hadn't sold my early 4001, which wasn't without its problems, but being young, I didn't know what I know now.

It would be nice if geofio was a little more active on here these days. He's probably had more Rickenbacker's than anyone else on this forum and would be the first to say that it's not an easy job getting a keeper.

  3. Although I posted the topic, it wasn't to generate any hostility. I'm not suggesting he's always correct, but Dave does make me chuckle. Plus, I've definitely learnt a few things from watching his channel.

I'll just leave this picture of my Rickenbacker here which is, in my opinion, something that the company did right.

A generically weak front pickup should have been fixed a long time ago ( it's not like it's a cosmetic change) on an instrument as premium priced as this
Same goes for the bridge design. I accept that it probably doesn't need visiting that often once you've set it properly, but why would you hide the saddle adjustments within the bridge mechanism so that they can only be moved back and forth when it's been completely de-strung? Completely bonkers. Nobody has mentioned tail lift yet. Not sure if that's still a problem or has it been fixed?

  5. I'm not gonna argue with any of what you've said BigRedX. Dave's his own man and makes a living doing the stuff he films. He has about 84,000 more followers than I do and gets to tinker about with guitars and basses all day day. Sounds like the ideal job to me. Good luck to him.

This did make me laugh though. Apparently the local Greek community got wind that he sets up stringed instruments and he took custody of two Bazouki's.

Not every day you hear Smoke on The Water played on a Bazouki.

    Dave's Rickenbacker story here.
Knowing what he knows now, I wonder what he would make of that particular instrument had he not destroyed it on the road? There are only a limited number of issues that can cause strings to break continuously and I think they're all pretty much curable, so it seems a bit of waste to me.

  7.
Who exactly is this "Dave" bloke, and why is his opinion even remotely of value?
Come on, there's no need to be like that. It's just a bit of fun. He's not fan and he's entitled to his opinion.

As far as I understand it, he was a player himself and is now a guitar tech. He's performed some pretty neat fixes on some of the instruments he's worked on. I seem to remember there was one bass with a twisted neck that he managed to pull apart and set in a vice after gluing it back together again. He just likes getting things back to a playable order. He's a bit grumpy, but you could probably empathise with him?

  8.
But it IS his bass, and he has owned it for over 40 years! Maybe no one will take it off his hands. I've never had any interest in Rickenbackers, I think they look garish and toy-like. Gibson Thunderbird, now THAT's a real bass guitar!
I was under the impression he was setting it up for the owner.

  9.
For me, the Ric is the best looking, best made, best finished, best sounding bass there is.
Best finished bass out there? That's a hell of a stretch.

I've owned quite a few Ric's and played even more. I'm still a Ric owner and no way would I describe them as the best finished bass there is. Quite the opposite in fact.

I'm sure I've heard a recording of them playing Breaking the Law before - dare I say, I thought it had a bit of an edge over Priest's original version!
Yeas, they're not all new tracks as per the dates after them.

Let's hope Ted Nugent spends the royalties wisely.

    On ammunition most probably :(

  12. I don't think I've posted these in this thread, but in honour of the lovely Gail Ann Dorsey, I had this scratch plate made for my white & maple Stingray 4H by Tim @ Scratch It.

See You Tube video from Gail as to how it came about.

  13. So, the fun poll ended at midnight and the three songs that came out top were Young Americans (1st by a country mile - no surprise there), Station to Station and then a late rally for 3rd place by....Breaking Glass. We'll be doing the Serious Moonlight, Nassau and Stage versions respectively.

It just occurred to me that his thread was started two and half years ago and how quickly things have come along in that period. The thread and updates might read as some sort of shameless plug for a tribute band, but it couldn't be further from the truth. The original question will always stand - what do Bowie fans want/expect in the set?

It took a good few years to convince our singer to come out of retirement and do it all again. Once we did, it was then a heck of a job to get the right people in place. It really wasn't easy in the guitar department at all, but once we were locked in, we knew it was right. We now have an extra guitarist who also plays sax and the pair of them are absolutely brilliant. They get on so well between them and also as part of the band. The wonderful Natalie then came along and added glorious vocals in all the right places. I do feel so lucky to be part of this band. I know it's not an originals band, but I just love the music, as do we all.

Anorak alert - I'm just listening to Warsazawa thinking how cool it would be to do that one live!

Anyway, we're now getting theatre bookings for next year, which is almost unbelievable given that we've only played 10 gigs of our own. I literally could not be more excited about next year. We have a gig in January in honour of Bowie's 71st birthday and we have some really interesting ideas for that show. There is also a special gig being planned for February which I'm not allowed to talk about! It might not happen, but if it does, new trousers required! Plus more after that.

I would like to thank everyone here who has shown any sort of interest in the band. There have been some great suggestions and sincere comments which have all been taken on board. Thank you one and all. Dave - if I can get us a gig in Scotland, I will definitely let you know well in advance mate.

Plus, as a result of being a member of Basschat, I have also now learnt how to play The Jean (Gene) Genie proper like :D

Have a great weekend lovely people.

Just had a look thru the web page VID clips. Band sounds really good especially the recent clips. Obviously the band has settled over the last 2 yrs and are far more confident in their playing.
Very impressed ...............NOW GET SOME GIGS UP HERE IN SCOTLAND
    Please
    Dave
That's very nice of you to say Dave. Thank you.

Well, your wish could come true. We've started getting gigs through an agent and one of the other acts he manages have been sent far and wide, so there is hope.

Last day of the poll today and 3rd & 4th spots are all tied up. Someone please break the deadlock :D

Go to www.changestwobowie.co.uk and choose one from:

    Breaking Glass
    Can't Help Thinking About Me
    Hallo Spaceboy
    Sister Midnight
    Station to Station
    Young Americans

The top three songs get the treatment for our gig at Chinnerys, Southend-On-Sea on 16/9.

  15.
Young Americans. Do you have female backing vocals with that?
Oh yes. The lovely Natalie will be joining us for that one.

P.S. I know I dropped down too late during the intro. I was having pedal issues

  16. Some surprising results so far in the 'pick our next three songs' poll.

Probably not surprising that Young Americans is favourite, but I really did think Breaking Glass would do better than it has.

Also, Sister Midnight in second place? Given that Bowie only performed it on the Reality Tour, I didn't think it would be that popular. This is why I don't gamble :)

I vote for "Love You 'Till Tuesday" :) - I unaccountably had a copy of "The World Of..." not long after it first came out as a 6 or 7 year old. That was my favourite tune. You could do THAT instead of Medals!!!
Now that is a good song 👍

  18.
I can picture the discussion:
HKH - ...and some odd bloke on Basschat suggested She's Got Medals
Rest of the Band (in unison) - F*** that
The actual reply was something along the lines of 'She's Got Medals is too much like David Bowie trying to be Ray Davies' , which I don't necessarily see as a bad thing, but it's not me that would have to sing it, so....

  19.
As a fan of Victor Meldrew I tend to avoid polls because they wind me up. To misquote the old curmudgeon; I'd rather creosote a rhinoceros than take part.

I was curious about one tune of DB's however; Wild Eyed Boy from Freecloud (or Freedom, if you have seen one of the rare releases with that typo)... if it was in your set you'd do the first version sans orchestral accompaniment wouldn't you? Or have you got an ambitious keyboard jockey who can MIDI up a convincing orchestra for you?

    Just curious.
It's just meant to be a bit of fun to see out of those six songs which people would prefer given the choice.

WEBFF isn't one of them this time around, but nothing is off limits, with the exception of The Laughing Gnome 😀 Actually, after this morning's band conversation, I don't think we will be doing She's Got Medals anytime soon either. Sorry Andy_L 😬

I'll have a word with our keys player. He's a music teacher and he's all MIDI'd up, so I'm sure it would be do-able.

  20. After two days, it's fairly clear which song is going to come out on top, but there are only a couple of votes between 2nd, 3rd and 4th places.

If you haven't done so, please visit our homepage, choose a song and click 'vote'. It's just for fun, but the results so far are not what I expected.

  21.
Which is and always will be the correct answer when discussing the Tin Machine songs on the set list!!! :D :D :D
Mmm, I have to say I do like Tin Machine. We've spoken about getting Baby Universal gig ready as well as Under The God, but with so much other Bowie material to hand, they've kind of taken a back seat.

  22.
Flummoxed by the unexpected absence of She's Got Medals in the options; ended up going for Young Americans
Well, one of them pre-dates Medals :)

We tried to get a date at Norwich Arts Centre and, well, it didn't work out too well <_<
