Bloody horn players! (grin)

Yes, there may be an element of that to it. I know the regular bass player plays it with standard tuning. I find it a little odd as it feels like I'm playing it upside down that way.

Eb is how The Lambrettas did it anyhow.

  2. I'm depping with the wonderful Skamite again tonight.

I thought it would be a nice touch to get a scratch plate made for the Fender Flea Jazz that I will be using, so I asked Tim @ originalscratchplates.com to make this.

I think it turned out rather well.

    Thanks Tim :)

  3. I'm not 100% sure, but I bought the springy piece of crap from a company that I believe make their own gear.

When I sent an e-mail airing my grievance I was informed "This can happen when the instructions are not followed. It is one of our most popular items". I beg to differ, but I would rather have my money back.

  4. I just thought I would post this in the hope that it might prevent a similar situation developing for one of you.

I needed to upgrade my iPad 2 to something with a larger memory and ended up with an iPad Pro. I opted for the larger Pro, which at one point this week, I began to regret.

Without entering into the great 'tablet on stage' debate, I only ever use it for dep gigs, which I seem to be accumulating rapidly this year.

I had survived for quite some time with this Konig & Meyer, which is clearly not adjustable, but was perfectly suited to my iPad 2....

Without much thought and because I just assumed it would fit, I bought the Hercules Tab Grab on line. I have loads of Hercules stuff which have all weathered very well indeed. I did note that the Tab Grab took tablets up to 12.1" which is what I thought the iPad Pro was, but didn't measure it. I know, schoolboy error! So, it arrived and it was too small. By a very tiny margin. Annoyingly tiny. I do think Hercules are missing a trick, but that's their business.

I offloaded the Tab Grab to a friend who had just bought the smaller iPad Pro and she was very pleased with it. It is a great piece of kit, but it just needs an upgrade.

I then set about trying to find one that did cater for what I needed it for. Ironically, I did look at Konig & Meyer, but didn't see one that took the iPad Pro.

Here is the main purpose of this thread. I then bought one of these....

What complete and utter garbage it is. If you look closely, you will see two pathetic looking springs which essentially holds the whole thing together. The sliding pieces of the frame have no runners in them whatsoever. Without the springs, the two sides of the holder completely disengage from each other. On my very first attempt at putting my iPad into it, both springs sheared away from their fixings. I've sent it back and I'm waiting for a refund.

So, third time lucky. I don't know why I didn't see it before, but I took delivery of a Konig & Meyer 19791 Universal Tablet Holder this morning. I ordered it over the phone from DV247 and they couldn't have been more helpful.

It's good news this time as it fits and is also another quality piece of kit from K & M. Well done them. So, if you're looking for a holder for an iPad Pro 12.9", I recommend this....

  5. The Optima strings were great on my Alembic, but that wasn't a five string set, so I can't offer any constructive advice really. They did look good though 😀

  6. Around about this time last year we went to see Earl Slick play at Colchester Arts Centre. It was a fantastic night with Earl and Bernard Fowler on top form performing the whole of Station to Station and more besides. We were also quite taken with the venue which is a converted church. Well, a year down the line and it was our night and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Here's the last song of the night featuring some ripping sax from multi-instrumentalist Paul Beddow.

    Suffragette City

There's a few other clips on You Tube from the same night on the same channel.

Kiss discography wikipedia lists over 48 albums? Didn't check the list as I don't even know 8 of their songs :)

Nah, I'm not buying that. 20 official studio, 4 solo and a smattering of live albums.

You could probably make another two albums out of the rest of the original material that has appeared from albums like Killers etc

Paul Stanley's totally unscripted between song banter takes up at least 30 minutes I reckon.
Yes, it's just variations on a theme though isn't it? Getting the left/right/front/back to shout as loud as they can - the Firehouse blurb - the Love Gun blurb etc etc

I shouldn't complain, I've had tons of enjoyment out of them over the years.

The original reason for the post was the line "The band have released 44 albums"

How long do they play for?
I'm not sure it's that shabby time-wise because it's padded out with all sorts of guff that I don't really have much time for i.e. drum solo/bass solo/guitar solo's.

The last time I saw them they played 20 songs. Here is the CD....

I remember when I ordered it that they played pretty much exactly the same set night after night, so I didn't bother ordering any of the others.

  10. I think their best, basically all of the 70's, is long since behind them, apart from the few glimpses of return to form; but I'll will always be a Kiss fan.

I won't be going to the show, but I was e-mailed this from a ticketing agency today....

"The band have released 44 albums"? Really? That's a stretch isn't it? Even taking into account the solo and live albums I can't get to 40!

I wouldn't mind, but they ignore a huge slice of their catalogue these days, just playing it safe with the obvious and short sets they normally do.

I know Simmons & Stanley are getting on a bit, but I just wish they would mix it up more.

  11. Received a bass from Barrie today. I couldn't be happier.

Top notch service from a real nice bloke who clearly knows his stuff.

    Thoroughly and unreservedly recommended.

A close up of the original DVD disc is on this page:

Unfortunately the disc code is on the other side. Thanks anyway.

  13. Rush released the Sector boxed sets a few years back encompassing all their albums up to and including A Show of Hands.

There were two faults found on discs in the sets for which replacements were sent out to those who purchased them.

The discs that were replaced were the Fly By Night CD and the A Farewell To Kings DVD.

The fault on Fly By Night is easily heard; it's in the first few moments of Beneath, Between & Behind where the left channel drops out momentarily.

The other fault is supposedly on the stereo track of the DVD of A Farewell To Kings. It's said that the stereo channel only has the front two channels of the 5.1 mix.

I know it's only a minor thing, but I've managed to mix the replacement DVD with the original. I've listened to both at length and I'm stuffed if I can tell what the difference is.

I've noticed that the etched codes on the DVD's are different between the original and replacement.

Does anyone have AF2K in the Sector boxed set and replaced their DVD of AF2K? Is there a way of telling which is which for sure? Would you be able to tell me what the code on the replacement disc is please?

I'm aware it's insignificant in the overall scheme of things and if I can't hear it, it probably doesn't matter. Just though I'd ask :)

  14. A return visit to our favourite underground club. We have to be careful where we put our guitarist here as the ceiling is too low for him.
