A Big thanks to Adam, for being there with a cup of tea as promised when i dropped my Bass off. Cash was waiting honest and very trusting. This was my first sale on this site and hope all future encounters are as good as with Adleman. Many thanks Deepbass5

My Findings I did fancy these basses, but having trialed one, found it to have a slight head dive. I didn't like the neck profile which seemed to be triangular, a ridge to the centre rather than a C or D profile was more < not horrible but slightly strange. The build quality and sound were great and I genuinely wanted to love the bass but felt it was not for me. The head drop was the one thing that put me off more than the profile. I eventually found the Schack which is rare in UK but it is very much a cross between the Pedulla and a Warwick. check it out www.schack-guitars.de

Headroom and cone surface area rules OK!!!! With power comes responsibility, and it's our job to let the Guitarists know sometimes that we can hold the line when things get dirty.

Warning against single small speaker cabs that are fashionable. I have gigged in Function bands for thirty years now, and shelled out lots of money on rigs that fitted my wallet or my car. There are loads of good rigs second hand on this site and good advice to help you make the right choice that will allow you to grow with your band as venues get bigger. I made a mistake once buying my second combo. A new Ampeg B1 combo. These were great 150 watt single removable rack with a three valve preamp. Built into a nice single 12" cab. It sounded incredible in the shop, at home, at practice and on quiet gigs, but get in a civic hall or an even a pub with 100 people stood in front of you, I was embarrassed that I had nothing left to give. I even bought a Peavey 15"+2x8" cab so I could use the amp at larger venues. Eventually it had to go, I was sad because it was a lovely amp but did not suit my gigging environment. I would advocate a 2x10 or 2x12" minimum for rocky pub or Indie type bands and any of the new lightweight amps 300 - 500 watts. you may not need more that 200w but headroom is a wonderful thing. Check out my rig below, I don’t need a 4x12 cab or the 500 watts of my Markbass amp it’s there for those unexpected venues and when I get Marquee gigs. This is my main rig for weddings and dinner dances my amp is usually on 2 or 3 at 9 o'clock. My EA rig is for Jazz and big band work I intend to get another 12" cab so I can confidently take two on a functions band gig due to my past experience. Good luck hunting down a rig there have been a couple of 2x12 Techamps for sale these are awesome.

I have had a CEB-3 for years and it's just fine, so can recommend that. As you only really need effects on your top end (harmonics) the CEB-3 you can adjust how much of your lower end you expose to it. Works for me. Use it more than my flanger

I meant to add, why not borrow one for a few gigs and see, If you can get away without it great. I also have an Aphex Bass xciter, which is amazing, it gives your bass sound a kick in the ass and some top end zing without the suffocation of your signal you can get by using a Compressor wrongly. Borrow one from your guitarist they don't need them.

I have had similar feelings about compressors, never used one for 20 years, although have had them built into a couple of amps I’ve owned but never really got to grips with those just set them to watch over the amp. I bought an EBS dual band comp about three years ago, because I thought I should and that it would help me get a better slap funk sound as that when you need to sort the different dynamics out between a thumb and a pluck. I now use it as part of my pedal board most of the time. Plus side It evens out your dynamics so you sound more consistent and professional, set right your sound could change from a ping to a dummbb like a well miked bass drum. It will help deliver a good signal level into the other pedals so they perform better Negative side If you are constantly adjusting your bass volume you could end up messing your evening up. It is another gain process to worry about - Bass, Compressor, amp preamp, master volume. You may sense you are running out of steam adjusting the bass and you’re not getting louder. It can affect the way you attack the song, the ability to dig in and add some attitude. Sound checks are more important at gig volumes, and with other effects that you will be using. Some pedals may need to go in front of the Compressor. Different basses will need a different setting.

tonebone and alternatives for plugging 2 basses into 1 amp
deepbass5 replied to bolov's topic in Amps and Cabs
Ahhh The Trombone -
I would be interested in having a look at the Streamer, I am 30 miles up the road. But would like to see better photos particularly of the damage is this the only part damaged, how are the tuners a knock can threat them and the nut spins loose, is that the original nut, it looks like a III. or is it the original II as they break at the sides as well. What you have shown looks in good nick wood wise. Thanks & a merry Xmas to you
I have the older (Tech Soundsystems) version of this cab. They sound awesome, if a little overkill!
Hi There in Ireland. Great cab aren't they. I love the tone and spread when just ticking over, I rarely get above 3 on my LMK amp. But when you need it it's there. I must to get over and see your lovely country
This is a lovely looking bass, quite remeniscent of a Sei Original, though I guess these pre-date Sei by a few years. Mmmm!
Similar to the Sei and similar Leduc headless bass also from France. I also feel this is very Vigier, not only shape and pickup placement but Lag guitars and basses at the time used transfers on the headstocks just as Vigier use now. The neck is very Precision like, which is why I went for this, as my previous bass was a 77 P Bass. Stays in tune well, It also has 27 frets if you are into chords and double stops.

Hi All. Thanks for showing an interest; I do not really want to trade as there is not much I am after at present. But will respond personally to serious offers and questions you have. This bass has been sat in its case for 5 -7 years so I'm in no hurry to give it away. I do feel it is worth around £800 as that is a typical second hand Stingray price, and this is better than that. I accept it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. The only reason I am selling it, is I have admitted to myself I am unlikely to play it live again for fear of going for the B string that isn’t there. Strap included with Jim Dunlop straplocks that fit the bass. The bass as you pick it up is Passive and you have a large volume knob for each pick up, you have to switch the piezo in if required. and have to pull front volume if you want active Bart’s, then you get two band EQ Bass/Treble front two small knobs. Piezo is obviously active to work when switch in, but sounds different when Bart’s are in active or passive. To me I prefer the sound best in Passive, but the knobs are great at scaring Guitarist. probably good for tapping and dose have good upright sound plucked high up the neck with Piezo on with its treble wound off

A 'P' Bass Fanned Fret !!! It would have to be a reverse P pickup to sound right, has a certain Bearded Gentleman been pushing for a distressed Salmon pink double reverse P Bass per-chance

Some more Photos, and info. Cheers These were Made in 38 Chemin de Moulis Toulouse France in the early 1990's They made 4's 5's and 6's headed and headless, They later dropped the piezo and featured a Warwick style separate tail piece. I bought this one from the Gallery in London. Lag stopped making guitars and basses in France, and then they popped up again a few years ago with just imported Guitars, no basses. The Piezo Bridge can be adjusted by 4 pots inside a volume for each string. Also the head takes ball end or non ball end, so you can use your favourite string and clamp with allen key and cut off excess.

Well Sheldon, you sure know how to stop a thread dead in its tracks. On behalf of all that admire your work a Very Merry Christmas.

With only 200 watts into 4 ohms you are gunna want allot of grunt out of the speaker which means as high efficiency cab as you can find for your money (SPL quoted at 1 metre) I would not go for the Peavey 2x10 as they are not very efficient at turning your watts into sound. Just remember for every 3dB increase in level requires a doubling of your amps power. So the difference in buying a cab with a rating of say 96dB @ 1M to one at 99dB would be half as loud again. Half as loud as it takes about 6 dB to appear twice as loud to the human ear. That’s just part of the storey then there is cone surface area. Hence lots of 4x10's out there. I've kicked this around for years we all have to compromise to suit our pocket and our Motors. You said Rock Band to me that means multi speaker cab. So to be portable that means more than one cab (two small cabs) or go for a good second hand 2x10 or 2 x12. High efficiency. Less eff cabs can sound good cranked up but you need an amp to match their wattage rating. Running your amp flat out into a 400 watt cab will blow the speaker quicker than pushing it hard with a 500 watt amp. Bass is Fun but the science gets us in the end

People worry about overloading speakers with big Amps but over running a small amp into clipping will send square waves into a speaker. Your EA 2x10 can handle good clean power but not dirty square waves which have probably fried the coil. I would stick with the EA cab and Amp or a Markbass amp with the EA 2x 10. I wouldn't recommend mixing speakers of different makes. As they are ported differently and have different characteristics so you may find it difficult to eradicate annoying room frequency's on a gig. EA design cabs to get the best results science can reasonably allow and stay portable Mark Bass use rear Ports in their smaller cabs and these work in a totally different way, that’s why they are so small. Mark Bass front ported Cabs are Large just Like Eden for example and are heavy. Hope that helps explain some things but sounds like you need two identical 12" cabs to use alone or together. Whatever your decide you can’t get away from the science that Bass usually means Big heavy boxes and lots of horse power to drive it. Mark Bass started a revolution in small amps and the Neo speakers are changing our lives now. so good luck. I also love the EA sound for Jazz and small gigs, but love my LMK for most gigs as it fits my bass sound and is easy to set and play with no fuss.

Late in on this one but I agree with Umph. I use to Bi Amp with a Carvin Probass 500 which is easy as it is designed for that, but I rigged it so I only added effects on the upper freq's in the second channel amp, This is by far the best way. Keep your fundamentals clean and muscular, and the effects work best on the harmonic content top end.

I use a 4 x 12 Techamp Cab 1200 watts into 4 ohm. I use it with a Markbass LMK. It is light too just 54 Lbs you can pick it up easy one man, but i do use a trolley board which i leave it on to play so not to loose the bass on hotel carpets etc. I think most people do not consider it now. The old marshals are 100 lbs, then 4 x10's took over in the 80's and only a few manufacturers have gone back. But with Neo speakers they are starting to re appear. Most people are using smaller combinations now. I went for the 12's as it was the best spec of any cab with the least weight. It sounds fantastic I use it on all but the smallest restuarant gigs so I know I can cope with any venue.

After years of compromise I got me a 4 x 12" 1200watt 4 ohm cab. because of the spec. wattage, SPL , frequency low tuning. and weight around 50 lb. awsome had it about 5 years now. It is the older Tec soundsystem model. I use a Markbass LMK with it. I am not hungry for anything else.
