1. It's all cos I'm detuned A,D,A,D,G really. I'm struggling to get the lows out at the moment so that's what the man suggested! I'm open to any other ideas if you have any? Also I don't wanna lug around a wall of death everywhere!!!
2. Indeed he did, I was just wondering what else was worth a punt.
3. I have been chatting to/hassling Alex at Barefaced and after he very kindly and patiently guided me through what I need to get for the sounds I want, it transpires that I will be needing a bigger boat as it were(jaws reference) So I'm wondering what 1k amp heads I should be looking at, any help or suggestions would be appreciated. The reason for all this craving for power is my drop tuning of a five string to get the brown notes out!
4. That black Roya 5 on the available instruments bit is giving me one serious bout of GAS!
5. Its a 5 string fretless.
6. Ive got a serious crush on the Warwick Vampyre NT 5.......i'll get me coat! Seriously though, ive never owned a Warwick myself but have had a few cheeky goes on mates and in shops, my opinion is that they are too easy to play, it cant be right, it must be witchcraft or something! I'd love a Vampyre bieng a pointy bass kind of person but the price is scary!
7. i am an idealist, i blame my dad's smoking habits in the sixties!
8. Is it a good price? Its 4ohm so say i were to run it with my Trace 8ohm head what would happen?
9. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SWR-Studio-220-Bass-...=item20b39f78b6 Any comments? Dont know much about SWR really, what ive heard has been good though.
10.
My son's mate bought a MB head from the states, ran it at UK voltage and fried it! Needless to say my lad is looking at it. he says it's really well made - state of the art and bloody difficult to fix!!
there is a section on the MB site in the faq's section about using or rather not using the heads in other countries. Surely if they are that state of the art some kind of power selection switch could be fitted round the back so you could use it in multiple countries no? or am i just bieng a naive moron?
11. well thats me well and trully put off! I've been umming and aaring whether to invest in a Markbass or Eden stack...looks like the Yellow has won!
12. The Gig FX Wah's are pretty good, ive had a mess about with them but i dont own one....yet! here's a link... http://www.stompboxpedals.com/category/sto...envelope-filter
13. Ok, so you like a Thunderbird and you want a five string.....buy a five string Thunderbird! I'd keep the four string as like has been stated previously, the money you will get for it just wont be worth it. The Epi pro five string T-Birds are sweet, ive had one for a while now.
14.
Curious as to why you stipulate a 15 and 2x10. I used to run decent SWR cabs of that config Goliath jnr lll and SonofBertha 15" ....and I think they are outclassed by my GS112's I use now. So not only do I get a better sound, but have much better carries as both fit in the boot of my car...whereas a 15 and 2x10 would be on back seats and all that rubbish. The lift and carry is so much simpler. I think 2x1x12's is the new 15/2x10 stack.. certainly in terms of saving the back, and maybe for a better sound anyway. If you still want a biggish lump the get a 2x12 cab and not the seperates....IMO. I can not see anyone out running a 2x12 unless stupid loud and if you keep your amp, you'll never get near to pushing it hard anyway..
I am not set in stone with that config, it just seemed to make sense in my head thats all, getting the low metal lows whilst also the punchy high end ska bits can be a bit of an issue sometimes with the Beat the Red Light stuff, I think i'm gonna have to go and have a mess about like 51m0n suggested, cheers for your advice guys, as a drummer turned bass player finding this place was an absolute godsend.
15. Hi, I am also looking at going lightweight, well lighter weight anyway! I'm after a 1x15 with a matching 2x10, i'm happy with my old Trace head so i'll be keeping that for the time bieng. I play in a few bands with various styles so the rig will have to be capable of dealing with "normal" stuff aswell as A,D,A,D,G drop tuning in my ska/metal band. Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated. Ive been having a look about, i quite liked the look of the Mark Bass stuff but didnt know if there was a difference in the Traveller series to the 102h and 151hr equivalents? Eden xlt/v8? anyone have any thoughts? ive also had my head turned by some SWR,Gallien Kruger,Genz......its endless!!!! Help is needed, i went to bed last night thinking about it and only got about three hours kip cos i couldnt stop!
16.
If you have a multimeter you can measure the resistance of the speakers at the socket.
how do i go about doing that then? (excuse my ignorance, i play drums you know!)
17. Yeah,i'll be happy just to get some cash for it to go towards a 1x15. I got it pretty cheap off of a mate who as i said previously had been using it as a table! She's in decent nick for an old bird but the weight is just stupid! I'm just gonna be honest in the listing and try to be as helpful as possible should anyone ask questions, its the reason i asked on here so i would at least have a good idea about what i was talking about. Thanks loads for your help guys, i flippin well love Basschat!
18. cheers Merton. She will be sailing on the good ship Ebay this evening.
19. I'd like to hear the cock and bull story they had to tell the A&E staff when they were getting it removed!
20. Mine is officially on order! Cant wait!
21. yeah, i think its a mark V. Here is a picture i found of one, not mine but exactly the same... (Just noticed you'd put pix up!)
22. Meenie

broken head

the fuse is there to protect everything else, i would put a new fuse in and see if it works (MAKE SURE THE FUSE IS THE CORRECT RATING) Ive had mains fuses go a few times on heads and combo's, its not been anything serious so far.
23. the cut out at the bridge puts me off, i like the horns though.
24. Its like that one but without the horns and also its not hairy! So y'know just like a standard 4x10 cab. Its just a cab by the way, not a combo. I will get some pics up tomorrow when ive got five minutes. I believe the speakers are original as ive known both the previous owners (the last one used it as a coffee table!) Thanks for the advice guys!
25. Try out an Epiphone Pro T Bird 5, they are an aquired taste but if you want to rock then you might just like it. You'll save yourself a few quid too. I'm loving mine, the more worn in it gets the better she seems to sound/play.
