S1 switching - what does it do?

I use a USA Precision with S1 switching. Unfortunately the pot has fallen off so I can't actually use this feature.

But is it actually worth it? What does it do and what tone does it create?

At the moment I believe the switch is 'off', so is that just passive normal P Bass tone?

Thanks!
jim.

it´s basically a series/paralell switch.
On a P Bass, once activated, it makes it sound more like a Jazzbass.
The opposite is true for the Jazz.

Simples :)

Oh, and it hasn´t anything to do with active circuits so, yeah, if it´s off, you have a passive P Bass tone. On, you have a passive Jazz(ish) tone.

Here´s a link: http://www.fender.com/features/s1/

Hope that helps,
Colin

Mine's coming off my 2006 P-bass this week. I've heard great things about what it did to the tone of a Jazz but on a P-bass the tonal switch is a bit lacklustre. That ebay link is £18, you can have mine for a tenner if you really want (assuming it's UK postage? - it may not be off until the weekend as I'm waiting on parts) but if you are hoping for new tones to be unlocked at your fingertips, I think you'll be disappointed.
