  1. Hi chaps, I've been playing bass at a pro level for over 4 years now. Have been signed to a major, recorded and released a record, and toured all over the world. Now I'm looking for an exciting new project to get involved with. My musical taste is quite eclectic, but some of my favourites are Radiohead, Arcade Fire, MGMT, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Elbow. These influences are probably reflected in my playing, but I am very versatile. My b/vs aren't bad either. I'm looking for a band thats fun, challenging, amazing, and with as much ambition as I have.   3. I've got an SVT3-PRO, and have only just managed to get a great tone out of it, after years of it sounding like sh*t, quite frankly! Basically in the manual theres a sample pre-set for 'Rock', basically the Master on full, and gain is the actualy volume pot you use (as previously mentioned in the thread) But then, get a Sansamp bass driver DI and use the 'Fat Tube' pre set, And suddenly it sounds like a monster! The Sansamp is totally recommended. I play with a Fender P FYI.

    Just upgraded all my cable at once (no point just doing the one!), instrument cables, patch cables, and a lovely thick Speaker cable, all Klotz. Immediately gigged them that night. No problems and clear tone. Great service and products. Thanks again! Jim

  8. All makes sense. Sansamp at the end of the chain it is... Out of interest, if one of your channels on the Sansamp, or one of your pedals, ends up being massively louder when you click it than your normal sound, what happens in the front of house sound? I find its quite hard to get everything to be within the same volume range, but I suppose it has to be done, and thats what sound checks are for! Its nice to have a distortion a bit louder than your clean sound for that extra bit of balls, whats a safe louder volume to keep it at without drowning everything else out? alh: the sobbat is just a nice boutique pedal I heard someone play through once for a lovely overdriven tone, and I had to find it!

  10. I've seen many unsigned / new bands over the years, and trust me, covering the stage with backdrops and banners and logo branding looks absolutely crap and won't win you any respect. As mentioned before a bass drum skin is all you need, as long as the graphic/logo/font is nice that is! Backdrops are ok, but as long as it fits in with the size of venue you're doing. don't drape things over risers/PA speakers/ various stands! If people like your music they will find out what your band name is and begin to follow you, the organic way
  11. Often in the past when I've done gigs, the engineer has plugged a DI before my pedals, so they just get a clean DI signal to play with. Then it occurred to me that my effects, fuzz, distortion, overdrive etc wouldn't actually be coming out of the Front of House speakers / PA, they'd just be hearing mostly clean DI'd bass with a bit from the cab. I have a programmable Sansamp DI now, so is it best to have this at the end of my chain, so the sound enginner gets my full effected bass signal. My chain goes like this: Bass > TU-2 tuner > Big Muff fuzz > Sobbat Bass driver > Sansamp DI > amp I look forward to hearing your ideas! Jim

  13. Actually, on the subject, if anyone knows a site I can get replacement tone and S1 / volume switching pots, I'd be very grateful. They don't have to be the originals, I quite fancy pimping it with some nicer pots anyway

  15. I use a USA Precision with S1 switching. Unfortunately the pot has fallen off so I can't actually use this feature. But is it actually worth it? What does it do and what tone does it create? At the moment I believe the switch is 'off', so is that just passive normal P Bass tone? Thanks! jim.
  16. Lots of people singing the praises of the road worn at the moment, but how does the Geddy Lee jazz shape up compared to it? Anyone tried both and what did you think of them?
  17. I'm intrigued. I loved the vintage Jazz I borrowed from a friend, but could never afford one. Where can I play one of these strange beasts? Are there any dealers in London, or the South?

  20. What exactly is it thats so good about the road worn bass apart from the look? Everyone seems to be banging on about them!
  21. Red Encore P-bass, and a horrible 10 watt guitar combo amp. I somehow acquired both items for free. After about 6 or 7 months I upgraded to a Yamaha BB604 and Trace Elliot 715 SMC combo. Then the rest is history!

The all valve Hi-Watt sounds great without it I think, I just couldn't improve it with the Sansamp, but as I',m currently using a solid state SVT-3 Pro, I think I can find something nice on the sansamp.   23. Hey mate, So do you have the pedal switched 'on' all the time then? Where do you keep it in your pedal chain, after effects or before? What setting do you usually run it on?
  24. Hey all, I recently got a programmable 3 channel Sansamp bass DI, but I haven't really worked out the best way to use it. Firstly I'm using it as a DI output, which is my main use. But how do you guys set up your channels? Do you have one channel constantly on as your basic sound, and use the other channel as a dirtier sound? Or only switch it on for certain things? I'm finding it hard to get a good tone out of it, it seems the signal is REALLY hot so the level has to be right down most of the time, Just wondered how you guys use it and how best I can use it as part of my rig. Also, do you set your EQ on the amp flat and just use the pedal as your EQ? Usually I use a Hi-Watt valve amp into an Ampeg 4/10 cab, but at the moment I'm using an Ampeg SVT-3 pro into my Ampeg cab. Thanks!
  25. I think there are individual bias pots on this amp. I just don't know what reading I should be trying to adjust to!
