Hmm wasn't much of a Weller or Jam fan, although I always thought Bruce Foxton was awesome (back in the day). Closest thing I have to a Paul Weller story was that I did stand in line in a newsagents (in our village) behind him - and he seemed very short (not that I'm particularily tall).

Sorry, I've nothing more exciting on that front

I've just remembered my only other very tenuous Weller story - for those that know Woking town centre quite well, you always used to be able to sneakily park for free on a saturday off the Goldsworth road in the old News & Mail car park, avoiding at least 20 pence for a ticket. On returning to my Cortina one bright sat morning who should I pass having pulled the same trick....yes, the Modfather himself.....

I once got a free set of strings signed by Bruce Foxton as part of a Rotosound promo tour.

I always thought it was a bit oddd to be signing a packet of strings but they were free so what did I care

Most of the people queuing up were 'just' Jam fans and I was the first bass player of the day to turn up. Bruce was super chatty and started talking about differences between his old Ricky and a P bass for live work etc.

Eventually the PR guy managing the event moved me on so Bruce could get signing again, lol.

Welcome from Bisley, I don't have any Jam stories I'm afraid, but I did frequent ABC in Addlestone on a Saturday morning during the early 70's.

Nice one - do you remember the bloke that seemed to me to be the manager (ie. he was the oldest) - looked like a cross between sgt bilko and eric morecambe ? I asked him if I could have a play on a fretless once and he said 'no, it'll be too difficult for you' - quite the salesman

I have a 70s Fender Mustang (hopefully pictured) and I don't know the correct name of the colour (I can't find it on any old fender colour charts) - I guess it could simply be 'brown' but that just sounds a bit boring for Fender ! Anyone remember the music shop that used to be along the A30 in Camberley up by the old cinema. It got burnt down under suspicious circumstances. I think one of the guys who worked there/part owned it, an older bald guy went and opened Intune Music in Little Sandburst.

My wife worked at the same place as Bruce's wife a couple of years back, met up with them at Royal Ascot Ladies day, said hello short chat for 10mins and that was it.

It could well be him, although I'm sure the glasses back then were more Ronnie Barker than Ronnie Lane.

ps. here's my other fav bass player. I found myself walking beside him along the new kings road before xmas - couldn't pluck up the courage to say anything, although not sure that's the done thing - has anyone ever just approached one of their heroes ? What on earth do you say ?!
