So if everyone quotes the list as it was before their post, we should have a nice list of amp/cab makes and what they typically sound like. Dood Posted August 6, 2009 Share Posted August 6, 2009 Hey LB - a fantastic idea - but I think it could prove a little difficult as we all hear our gear differently. I think there are too many variables involved with trying to describe tone when you can't hear it yourself. for example, I could use phrases like, 'Massive bottom end' or ' buttery mids' or 'juicey top end' but doesnt really describe what the cab sounds like. Then there could be an element of 'this is the best cab I have ever used' which will probably get a natural bias, despite being completely unuseable for particular applications - ie, sounds great quiet but not very good up loud. On the flipside though, if several people come up with the same response, such as 'this cab sounds wooly, lacking in top end and bite' - then I guess a majority view point would be good guidance. So I can see it being beneficial if enough people partake! - It'd be great to have a reviews sections as good as TalkBass, but BassChat doesn't have the massive user base... (yet!!) 4000 Posted August 9, 2009 Share Posted August 9, 2009 Problem is every player is different and requires something different so I'm not sure even that's feasible. For instance I've always played a lot of rock, like Trace Elliot but have never got on with Ampeg, the exact opposite of what many people experience.
