TGEvans Posted June 24, 2009 Share Posted June 24, 2009 Hi all, I defretted my spector performer a few years back and I love it, until now I have been using tomastik infelds roundwounds. my question is I have started using this bass to play with a hardcore/rock band and its pretty interesting.I have been thinking about using a different type of string but not sure what.what do you guys put on your fretless basses and do you play heavier styles with a fretless? can the type of string affect the fretboard too with it being defretted? any feedback will be good,thanks,t Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They are very smooth indeed, so no finger noise and they're kind to your fretboard, but they have a bit more sing and sustain to them than regular flats which is great for fretless. I also have TI jazz flats on my Spectorcore and they are really nice. Smotth to play and a lovely warm, rounded sound. WinterMute Posted June 25, 2009 Share Posted June 25, 2009 I prefer roundwounds, usually Rotosound nickels. Sure they chew the board up after a while, but that's just the price you pay for the tone. My sweat is nasty stuff and I kill strings quite quickly, even with a careful clean after playing, flats don't cut it for me in the high end, and groundwound die too quickly.
