Festival band clashes

Festival organisers obviously can't get it 100% right for everyone. For some of us, there will be unfortunate clashes. 

Last year,  I had to make a tough choice between Battlesnakes and God Speed You Black Emperor. I chose Battlesnake and it was brilliant but I know I missed something great.

This year its between missing the end of Napalm Death or the start of Primus. Thats a tough one.

What's the toughest choice you've had to make at a festival?

At Rebellion a few years back I’m sure both Booze & Glory and Dirt Box Disco were on at the same time which was a tough choice.

Always a difficult one at Womad because there are three mad acts you have never heard of and will never get the chance to see again clashing at pretty much any moment. But the one that sticks in my mind is Glastonbury 1992. Ozrics who were already 90 minutes late for an extra set in one of the small tents and a girl I had been after for ages and had just randomly met really wanted me to go with her to something or other on the Pyramid stage. I chose music. I saw her next morning snogging some random bloke so it may have seemed tough at the time but it was clearly for the best.

Glastonbury 1995, Oasis Vs The Prodigy at about midnight.

 

I was 15 and my friends wanted to see Oasis, I went alone to The Prodigy. No regrets, I don't think it'd be an exaggeration to say it was life changing stuff (along with Orbital and the Dance tent that year) I was already into that sort of music but that was a year or so before I could get into decent clubs so was a real eye opener.

I was there when Blur clashed with Prodigy (2010?). I lost the argument and we watched Blur and it was boring. Everyone agreed afterwards that I was right and we should have watched Prodigy.

The Quart Festival in Norway had two stages, a 15 minute walk away from each other. The one-hour gigs on stage 1 would start at say 13PM, 15PM etc, and on stage 2 they'd start inbetween. So you could play a bit with this and prioritise which minutes you were giving up for the sake of the other gig.
Perfec', nearly.

However:
Not everything went smoothly all of the time, and that's how I missed Kristopher Schau & The Cumshots, whose gig was kinda disturbed by action group F*ck for Forest entering the stage ... and each other after stripping in front of a banner telling the audience about the importance of saving the rainforest.

F*ck for Forest has a dedicated page on Wikipedia, I see today.

I have to warn you though:
the asterisk was never used: neither in the spelling nor on stage ...

I left PJ Harvey early to go and watch Jimmy Cliff at Oxegene Festival about 20-something years ago.
