Ah apologies if I’ve done wrong.    I’ve not put a price up, because I’ve no idea what it’s worth.  That’s what I’m trying to find out.

I can delete if I’m out of line???

16. Attempts to sell without a Marketplace subscription

If you have an item that you are interested in selling but do not yet have a subscription please avoid the following:

( a )  Offers or dropping hints outside the marketplace: Posts generally but in particular in the 'Wanted Items' forum must not offer, imply or allude to any other item being available for trade or sale.

( b )  Request an appraisal: Posts asking how much an instrument is worth are not permitted unless you are a Supporting Member and have access to the valuation forum.  Otherwise, the best way to work out the value of an item is to look at 'completed listings' on popular sales sites like Reverb or Ebay.  Alternatively search for similar gear on Basschat and contact a member who has sold the same item for advice.

( c )  Offers via PM only, this includes offers to trade.

I’ve had this sat in its case for over 10 years.    I would sell it, because I want something cheaper that I can leave out & play, rather than putting it back in the case every time.  I don’t know how much to ask for it?

I look at eBay & the prices vary massively.   I’m not expert enough to know why.

That’s a rare Stingray - it has a piezo V nice colour etc and looks like a late 90s/early 2000s from the serial number (it’s actually 2nd December 1999 from EBMM database). It shows as exactly as per your photos, down to the pearloid pg - quite rare for a pearloid straight from the factory)!  It would be worth trying one of the retailers who sell on consignment - eg Bass Bros, Andy Baxter, The Gallery and see what they suggest (remembering you’ll have to pay a percentage to them).

If you read back through the thread there are plenty of ideas of current prices.

Stingrays do pop up for relatively low prices (under £1000) dependent on how much the seller needs the cash and how clued up they are on current values. You could register and try to sell it in the for sale thread - I don’t recall the last time I’ve seen a Stingray with piezo for sale - I have a Bongo with piezo and would certainly be looking for slightly more than for a non piezo one (I’m not selling it)!! Having recorded with it and used it live the piezo adds another very usable sound and timbre to the bass!

Thanks drT

I don’t really need cash tbh, but I’m definitely not clued up, so thanks for the advice.

I did get quotes from a couple of dealers, including one you mentioned.    I was offered £1050, £1100 & £1200.   Obviously won’t say which, as that wouldn’t be right.

They did say I could get more if they sold on commission, but I didn’t explore that further.

I’d be happy to sell on here.   Just trying to work out the right price.

@Useless Eustace it’s a lovely bass - they’re an odd one the Piezo models, I had one in red years ago and the amount of people who did the “if only it didn’t have the piezo” line shocked me…

I found it a really useful feature.

Anyhow - they seem to sit in that 1300/1500 bracket currently…yours may fetch more as it’s got a nice bit of wood going on and the piezo etc so £1500+

And the market will dictate.

Nice bass though 👍🏼

WOW!    I wouldn’t even have thought to look for that, thanks!!!

Thanks Andy

I’d be happy with £1500.   Not looking to squeeze the last penny.

I don’t need to sell, but it’s wasted just sitting in a case.

That would be me. I've walked away from buying basses due to them having piezo pickups. It really is horses for courses 🙂

It strikes me as strange that what I consider to be an inferior finish (poly) is sold as a special edition premium thing.

The standard EBMM finish (oiled and waxed) is far superior.

I'm with you on this. The gloss poly finish (in my opinion) on the back of necks is horrid.

Yeah a bit odd @AndyTravis - particularly as the piezo has its own control, so you can mix in as little or more you like. You can have full magnetic (no piezo) or full piezo (no magnetic) and anything in between. The three EQ controls work on both. So if you preferred, you can ignore the piezo completely (turn it off).

The quantity of bass players these days whose experience is that bass guitar controls comprise only a volume and tone control  in 2026 is absolutely astonishing - if it was 1971 ok, but you’d have thought we’d learnt a bit more in 45 yrs lol!! Back then there were cars being sold without heaters and rubber mats instead of carpets, let alone any of the other gizmos we’ve come to expect all these years later, but no one in their right mind would accept that in a modern vehicle!!

I feel the same way with regards to the deliberate ageing trend we're witnessing on instruments. Imagine being charged more for a new vehicle that the factory bashed about a bit! 🤣

The thing is, they kinda have a point!

Fashions change and twenty years ago, I only played active basses, but I find myself being pulled back to using passive Fenders (just like when I first started gigging). Sound engineers love them and I just saw a Tom Bukovac video, where he suggested that a Fender Precision is still the bass, the only one that will work on every session he does. You might not personally agree, but you can't disregard his opinion - it carries a lot of weight.

Don't get me wrong - I have an active 'super jazz' and a stingray and they both sound great. But I still find myself taking a passive Fender out to most of the gigs that I do.
