Bass Drive / Tech 21 / Boss GX1

I’m looking at adding some drive to my clean tone to run in front of my amp for live use.

 

I do not use a lot of FX but I could benefit for slight light drive on certain songs 

 

Should I just buy a drive pedal or something like the Tech 21 Bassdriver DI  or a low cost multi fx such as Boss GX1 all around the same price 

 

If the Boss GX1 does a decent overdrive sound ( very mild to fuzz ) it may be money well spent with the other features on offer 

 

Thoughts ?

There are 2 pedals I like for this, TC Electronic Spark Booster and Ampeg Scrambler. The TC is very transparent, Ampeg adds a little to the tone but not much. If pushed I’d go Ampeg due to the blend option to keep the solid clean signal in there.

I went through a bunch of different dirt pedals in a quest to find one I liked, including guitar pedals as well as bass-specific pedals. I ended up with the boss BB-1X bass driver.

I'd like to try the Ampeg Scramber at some point as well.

BB-1X arrived and will try it loud tomorrow night. At home it sounds like a mild drive and warm sounding pedal 

 

Seems to be more like what I’m after but need to pop through an amp at gig volume. The tone controls are handy too and find drive set 10-11am is a nice grit kind of sound
