I've had this as an earworm all day and can't for the life of me remember what it's called. I'm fairly sure it must be by some mid-Sixties quintet or bigger band, someone like Herbie Hancock / Wayne Shorter / Joe Henderson / Freddie Hubbard, but I've had a scan of their likely-looking albums on Apple Music and not come up with anything yet. This would be the A section, it does something else after that that I don't recall. Anyone recognise it?

Don't recognise it, sorry.
I tried Musipedia to not avail; have you tried any other online resources? I'm not knowledgeable about these sites, but do know one such site exists that lets you hum the tune.

Thanks, I did try Musipedia which gave me a lot of what looked like trad folk tunes and some other you-hum-it-I’ll-recognise-it site which reckoned it was Dua Lipa 😄

I’m sure someone will get it soon and I’ll kick myself.

I hope they do and that you'll kick nekomatic. 🙂

Sticking me neck out here, but the tune doesn't give me any impression of having been written by one of the greats.
Though maybe it's the development of the piece that does the trick ... and I'll have to kick BassTractor.

Thanks but nope. Definitely a sixties sound not bebop. I’m sure you’d get it instantly if you knew it, but maybe it’s more obscure than I thought.

Gah! Also kicking myself... should have played it through rather than just glance at it. Great track.

That's nothing! I even did play it through. My problem (apart from not remembering the track) was me being old and slow ... and taking the 180 tempo to mean something like 117. 😄

You are right, it's indeed Passion Dance from Mc Coy Tyner.

I played your partition on the piano, but it didn't ring a bell, certainly because I couldn't get the feeling.

But now here's what I hear and I hear an F as the first note, not a D, sorry for the writing, but it's not the most important thing to me as I use it as a reminder only...

Yes the original key is F.

I was being optimistic with 180, it actually goes at about 240!

What I'm kicking myself about is that in my memory the piano part did a much heavier chord on the 1 of each two-bar phrase, like BOOM! da-da-da-da-da-da-daaa, BOOM! da-da-da-da-da-da-daaa-daaaa, and how much more McCoy Tyner than that can you even get? NONE MORE MCCOY TYNER.
